“Learn it slow” - perfect advice that can be applied everywhere, to anything. His experience speaks common sense, and this was very aptly named “Anubhav”.

I am doing my math thesis on distributive lattices and I just got inspired by this....half and quarter speed and filling up the space in a manner such that space is even every time. This helped me so much in a concept called "homomorphisms". Thank you Zakir sir.
Hello, I am an undergraduate physics student and a musician (tabla player specifically), could you please tell me something more about you thesis? It seems pretty interesting! 😅

This man deserves a Bharat Ratna!! If you are an indian then he has existed in our consciousness from forever!! He is the son of the greatest tabla player of all time....who can ever even momentarily forget that?... Ustad Zakir Hussain is our guru!!
The Bharat Ratna hasn't deserved him yet. He could just play a single riff and I could listen to it all week. He doesn't play the instrument; he is the tabla and the the tabla is him.
He is playing tabla with his fingers, hands, body , emotions, mind and heart.... this is giving YOUR 100%... and when you do that.. you become 1% like Guruji...and when you do this over and over again for 3-4 decades... you become 90% like Guruji.... last 10% is blessing from God....
This was one of the hardest things for me to learn growing up as a tabla student. Playing slow, in time, WITH VARIETY is really, really, really, REALLY hard.
Priceless advice🙏. Slowing down the pace of a kayda and then placing the syllables before OR after the standard position brings so much new life and beauty to the rendition. There are countless possibilities here and a sincere student can design his/her own patterns and improvise even on the first kayda that is taught in tabla. We need gurus who can expose sincere students to such priceless doors to improvisation.
So true… your brain runs the show if you are playing tabla or dholak. He understands that very well and that is why there is no one like him on this planet!!!
I love this! Zakirji's lessons about riyaz always the best. Also, as non-native, mediocre Hindi speaker I can really understand his Hindi very well. And I love phrases like "For instance, ek simple cheese hay."
Ustad Zakir Hussain in a Knowledge house a power house of tabla. the way he explains goes straight in to the heart. god bless and lots of love and respect from Pakistan
In Pitman English stenography to build speed later upto 200 words per minute , what the book advises to the student is to ...hasten slowly.... to build slowly and steadily faster, without compromising quality.
Kya jabardast tips hai. Thank you very much Zakir ji for sharing and Hari ji for such an initiative. The knowledge from such maestros shouldn't go waste and should be passed on to new generation like old Indian knowledge was just passed verbally from generation to generation Guru to Shishya. And not written in the manuscript. Very good initiative by Vrindaban.
Being a calligraphy student i am practicing to write as slow as i can means you don't need to rush and i am 100% agree when you give time and space to anything you are passionate about your learning will be at another level.
Now this god takes dynamic variations into another dimension,.. since I was 18 and I'm 62 now, I hear something new, many things new... EVERY TIME! If he were to share what he knows in one workshop, it would be about 2 years long, 24 x 7 !! He is a miracle. 🙏🏽
For whole of the tabla players community, Ustadji playing tabla is just as important as Sun consuming it's hydrogen reserves to generate energy. Pt. Suresh Talwalkar always says that the Guru must impart energy to students to practice more and more. Ustadji has given that energy, that ray of hope to all the tabla players, that yes, its possible, stay on course. So, without being the teacher for many thousands of tabla players, he is "the teacher" for all of us. Can there be any better connection than this ? Can it be more divine than this ?
There is nothing more divine than the relationship between guru and shishya ...that's why this sloka explains the chronology...mata pita guru daivam ...the mom first shows you the world and also your father then the father and mother help you find your guru and ultimately your gati is daivam that is God . Pure bliss
Thank you Bada guruji for awesome TIPs for practice. You are my inspiration from childhood. I love to listen and play Hindustani classical tabla bols, though I am from Chennai, south India.

You'll be missed, Ustaad ji. One of the finest teacher and student of music.

+1 Yes I am interested as well
I learn hindustani vocal, and the same idea helped me to understand the concept of 'space filling homomorphism'
Hi, anyone got in contact with this person. I am constantly looking at this thread, if the person has replied, very curious to know the thesis 😅
can you let me in regarding this, myself a tabla player too and doing my Btech.
India has a great pool of talent. We are wasting them fighting over religion and caste.
our neighbouring countries dont want us to live in peace.

A lot of people don't understand how difficult it is to play with this perfection in such a low tempo. Ustad for a reason.🙏
This man deserves a Bharat Ratna!!

surprised he is not a bharat ratna, maybe because he is Bharatendu ( The Moon of India!) One and only one.
The Bharat Ratna hasn't deserved him yet. He could just play a single riff and I could listen to it all week. He doesn't play the instrument; he is the tabla and the the tabla is him.
He teaches not only the lesson of playing tabla but essentially it is even the lesson of life..." Peripheral Intimacy is very important"
Peripheral arrangement
You said it sir 👍🏻
Even Advice needs gravity and realization. When Realized souls like him give advice its weight is many folds higher than others!!👌👌
Indeed he is realised ❤😊 jai shree mata ji
in 10 minutes of casual lesson from him, I learnt about 8-10 mind blowing things that I never realized before.
Just a few words from legend feel like an entire graduation course.

That is called a master class! I can vouch for this as I struggled with inconsistencies myself with the art.
He is just too good, very few people in the world can do it even after knowing this technique, but so generous of him to share.
Damn. I miss him. What a gorgeous person, brilliant teacher, outstanding performer.

Three most important words from Ustadji: even every time. A lot of tabla got summarized in these three words ! ❤
This was one of the hardest things for me to learn growing up as a tabla student. Playing slow, in time, WITH VARIETY is really, really, really, REALLY hard.
This is such a great initiative by Hariprasad Chaurasia ji
