  • A conversation with Nikhil Rao, Guitarist of Indian Ocean, the self taught 'Human Jukebox', who was all set for a conventional life before fate intervened. If playing for Indian rock legends 'Indian Ocean' is not enough, Nikhil also has a very distinctive playing style which blends his metal-head origins with Indian classical and folk tendencies seamlessly. We talk life choices, gear, influences and wax lyrical about artists like Prasanna, John McLaughlin, Shakti, Jeff Beck and Dicky Betts

Very cool! As a typical westerner, I primarily grew up on a lot of the different styles of standard rock music and the way that guitar is usually used in it.
The blending of different folk styles with rock is a great innovation and I thank you for exposing me to Indian Ocean. I've been digging Bloodywood a bit over the past year and of course, I dig stuff like the Dropkick Murphys or Eluveitie in regards to western stuff.

Wow. This was just awesome. A perfect example of why I follow your channel. Living in USA I have never heard of Indian Ocean. The brief clip led me to look them up and Pause your video to listen to them here ua-cam.com/video/AVY8ljDa4vo/v-deo.htmlsi=uMdzXM096_yF9xEp at the Dhaka International Folk Festival in 2015. Just awesome music even though I don't know the language. Amazing voices. Amazing composition, harmony and performance. I could not help myself, I grabbed a guitar to try and follow along. My ears are hearing new and interesting things.
Thank you for sharing this music and opening it up to more ears. It is a mix of the familiar and the unfamiliar to us in the USA. You opened a door to a new musical place for me. Something rare that I appreciate.

I'm from Texas and don't get out much, but my house is now filled with Indian Ocean. I don't speak Hindi but I certainly dig the music. There is a lot going on in this. Rock and folk and dare I say a King Crimson vibe? I swear I hear Robert Fripp in there. Maybe it's just me. Definitely digging it.😁😁😁

I’m very glad I could be of assistance. You are very right about the prog vibe. Prog bands have influenced Indian rock bands a fair bit
