My wife and I have been struggling with depression and frustration for a few years because, like Michael Miller, we escaped a very abusive, hyper charismatic church that talked about spirits exactly like you guys dealt with. What blessed me in this discussion is the balanced approach. I've become very guarded against anything that smacks of what was used to abuse us, so I very rarely pray against any spiritual oppression, not even really considering it an option. But this discussion helped me realize I'd gone too far in the opposite direction. I can pray and ask if this isn't something held over from our abuse without going full charismanic about it.

In the book "The Unseen Realm" the author says that the word used for the snake in the garden of Eden can also be understood to mean "diviner" or "oracle". I don't know Hebrew to confirm that, but it's interesting to see a parallel here. Likely, it meant all three things describing some kind of divine being.

I'm only 15 minutes into this video and it dawned on me that, in the charismatic vein, so little attention is paid to being better people. I look back at the 6 years I sent among charismatics and I cannot think of a teaching that showed that we fail as humans and that Christ offers an opportunity to be reborn and follow a better way. Instead, much of the time was spent on bizarre external things.
It truly is sad. And among a people who claim to be lead by the Spirit. Looking back I see such greed, self focus, grandeosity, seeking of personal glory rather than offering selfless love. Well, offering love outside of mere words.

    • @jrbenoit22

      One more thing to add....
It's great to "cast out the Spirit of poverty" and speak in tongues but when will charismatics spend money and time restoring people from homelessness? There are plenty of ways to "cast out the demon of poverty" but it seems the only was its done is through some sort of incantation. I'd say give money during a tithe to help others but all the charismatic churches I have been to, they talk about giving to receive. Like the tithe is some sort of poker game. Double ya money by Friday!!!!! Never have I heard that giving the tithe goes to help others.
      Very sad indeed.

This is a really good discussion on this issue. But speaking as someone who remembers where they came from in church 60 years ago; unless you attended a classical Pentecostal church back then there was no opportunity to even consider that there might be an evil spirit tormenting you. Lip service was not even given to the possibility of any sort of deliverance. you were taught it was all in your head or you weren't really saved. Praying in tongues was of the devil and all power as seen in the New Testament ended in the year 100 ad. +/-.
So when the Charismatic renewal began it was a wonderful thing to find out that Jesus had power over these things that went bump in the night and that he gave that power, authority to us also and one could actually get free of whatever was tormenting them but the focus must always be on Jesus. He is the center. In listening to you speak on these issues I sometimes fear that because of controversy and over emphasis of certain issues like what this discussion is about that you will push the believing church back into that place of refusing to recognize that deliverance and healing and the prophetic is extremely important and valuable to the body of Christ today. What God has given to his people we just must not throw away or treat it lightly or mock, make fun of. Unless you have been bound or oppressed by an evil spirit you have no idea how wonderful it is to be free and look back many years later and have your heart flooded with thankfulness for the freedom that Jesus has given to you. Jesus is the focus and the center of it all. I appreciate Michael Miller's comments the most. Miller you have the heart and compassion and not just theology to stand on. Thank you for holding to your position. May God bless all three of you.

I had a very vexing experience when seeking a tongues experience. Most Charismatics seem to have a weakened discernment and sound doctrine. Many have received a spirit of torment while seeking some deeper mystical experience ( Trance, Visions ) , Paul warned of a different jesus and different spirit . As I diligently study the scriptures , especially Paul's epistles for church age believers, I don't see any instructions to cast out demons in these epistles. Many Chrisitans, like myself, have turned to a false mysticsm and become blinded by a different spirit

I agree with you guys. I see some younger people slinging the name of Jesus around & demonstrating their power & lacking a filter to sift the pride out of the deliverance. Hope I explained my thoughts so you know what I mean. My experience in a demonic deliverance on one occasion was that God blessed me to see the person set free. It actually had nothing to do with me, the Holy Spirit did it & I was just available/the vessel. When you know it’s not by might or power but by His Spirit it keeps you humble.

Remnantradio I cant thank you and thank God enough for this ministry. After being involved in and confused by much of what has been going on in the charismatic and Word of faith movement for the past 48 years since I’ve been saved it is such a blessing to have a panel of three wisemen (no pun intended) who are doctrinally
and theologically sound present this information from a totally biblical worldview. So much confusion, misuse of scripture and error has been pumped out over the past four decades to the point where The charismatic movement has become largely scripturally unrecognizable. I really appreciate the way you all reverse engineer some of the demonic terminology/ teaching that has been circulating around in charismatic circles and trace it back not only through scriptural content and context, but actual cultural and mythical origins. It’s brilliant.
To say that this ministry is a breath of fresh air seems to be a huge understatement. These podcasts and teachings are restoring my soul and reviving my faith in the proper use of the gifts of the Sprit again I was beginning to wonder and doubt if it was even possible in this day and time… such sound doctrine and balanced teaching …thank you Jesus for leading me to this green pasture.🙏🏼

Probably neither here nor there, but when I was teaching Sophocles, often one of the characters would seek a prophecy from the Oracle at Delphi. I found an article to interest the college students about the last utterance of the oracle which said that the last prophecy was made when a child born in Bethlehem bade the Oracle to be silent. She never prophesied again according to this article which I didn't bother to research.

    You guys are 100% correct!
    Just to add more arguments:
The snake we know today as “python” got its name in 1803… In the 1st century no one associated the word “python” with an actual snake. Any association of the attributes of the snake python with the spirit of python is baseless and lacks basic knowledge of history and zoology.
The mythical “python” was also not on Luke’s mind when he wrote Acts either, as he knew that the mythical “python” never existed.
Spirit of python was a style of prophesying as described by Plutarch.

I really like the Biblically-rooted balance in this show. Agreed on your conclusions too, guys. Thoughts on the two opening clips (to chime in with you)... The first sounds like a number of things, from poor nutrition (deficiencies) and sleep, as Joshua pointed out - to battles with depression and anxiety. The second sounds like if things aren't going your way, it can't be life. It must be the python spirit. I heard a hint of the "name it, claim it" prosperity mindset in the second one. Tread cautiously there, Church. Much love and respect for this ministry... God Bless!

My grandson, who's only 8 has told me he saw a person in the doorway of his home, staring at him. He was in the car waiting on his mom (My daughter)to come to the car. When she came to the car he asked her why she had been just standing in the doorway looking out at him? She said she hadn't been. It freaked him out and when she asked what he had seen he said it was a person who looked dark and shadowy but even though it looked weird to him he'd thought it had to be his mom. Except it wasn't. Both of my children (now grown) have seen "people", who they could describe to me in detail. What would you make of that? My daughter, for one, was always afraid as a child. We are Bible-believing Christians.

I 100% believe this is one of the "spirit guides" you encounter during deep breakthrough DMT trips. In my times of misguided use, there were spirit realm encounters with them, and they had the same motives. To lie, confuse, steering you off the true path. Obviously, I've renounced my attempts to be closer to God through divination for years now. Ever since though, I've referred to this spirit as "The Used Car Salesman of The Spirit Realm."

Question for Michael Miller: you said that the Greek verb (krazo) used in Acts 16:17 which says the girl was “crying out” can have the meaning of ventriloquism- of her voice being used-being of a strange nature. Using Logos Bible software, incl Louw Nida, it says “krazo” can express hostility but nothing about being used ventriloquism style. Can you please refer me to your sources? Thanks. Great episode!

the bible is full with animals that convey spiritual realities. The lion, raven, sheep, goat etc. The challenge is not to sweep what they teach in the bucket of what one thinks is acceptable or not. Some preachers leave out anything supernatural. They might as well rewrite the bible. How do they view the people they are trying to convince. What is the motivation behind such teachings?

I remember coming across an ancient Hebrew text, inwhich the the Jewish exorcists write that someone is possessed by a scorpion spirit when the eyes of the demoniac roll downward into the head, but upwards if it is a serpent demon. So I believe Jesus is addressing the common understanding of the day that demons are associated with such.

10:50 i disagree, i think the TPT is correct to include the statement 'spirit of Python', though it should probably more accurately say 'Python spirit'. it is a gripe of mine that translation blend away information that the translators cannot see a use for. a good translation preserves every piece of information.
