    My husband’s cousin has lived in California for many years but plans to retire in her home state. We have been wanting to give her a memento that would commentate her time here with us & this map idea is perfect! Thank you for all the ideas and keep that caffeine poring into your creative cup!

    Oh. I saw in the comments below someone asking a about a roadmap... wouldn’t a rough map of major highways or rivers (or both) be a cool free motion motif for this?! Even stars marking your home town or major cities and points of interest? I love your videos, Rob. You and Jenny are the best! I get lots of creative ideas from you two!

    Once again, you have set my imagination buzzing, this time about my beloved Texas and what a fantastic applique it will make. (Because let's be serious: how great is that shape??!!) I love how your sessions combine technique with boundary-busting gonzo verve. I always come away inspired and upbeat (not cowed like I do with other projects).

    What a brilliant idea! I have seen lots of other state crafty hall hangings but this is the best. I think it would be super cute to add a heart over our home town too and maybe as part of the quilting to add adjacent state lines. I love how you added topography to the state. No easy task with California. Thanks for sharing!

      I thought I saw a Texas wildflower jellyroll on Missouri Star Quilt Company, and that’s where I order most of my quilting online fabrics. We have the Quilt Hause I think it’s called here in New Braunfels that sells wonderful Texas themed fabric but don’t think they sell jelly rolls. I’m new to quilting and Rob has given me the courage to give it a try to machine quilting, proving you can teach an old 75 year old dog a new trick

    • @hawkeyeannieful
      @hawkeyeannieful 6 років тому

      Judy Moen she does have them, on sale for 35.99. eBay has one as well, 31.99. I buy more from Missouri star than any where else. I too enjoy Rob and Jenny’s tutorials. Been to 2 retreats there. She’s awesome and so is her establishments. Many stores, many themes. The town is alive again thanks to her and her family.
      I love new braunfels. Pretty town. I live 30 miles south of Fort Worth.

    Your background construction reminds me of Lego! I am going to try British Columbia some day. Hmmm... forest green and brown for the mountains, tan and purple for the ranch lands and wineries in the southern and middle interior of the province, and blues for the oceans. All the little islands in the Gulf and the north coast might be tricky. My province is beautiful but complicated! Lol.

    • @michelletothill8551
      @michelletothill8551 6 років тому +3

      Kelley I was thinking of BC too. All the Fiords along the coast would be interesting too. I think I would put Haida Gwaii, Vancouver Island and a couple of the Gulf Islands. I would use grape and or wine fabrics to represent the Okanogan and the Cowichan Valley. For the quilting I would include the major river systems done in a specialty thread.

      When I try this I am going to copy in reverse image onto a piece of stabilizer then sew that on to the fabric and cut it out. That way I have no raw edges and I don't have to do a needle turn applique. That's my lazy way.

    I’m curious as to why you would chose to fold under 1/4” on the edges instead of using a fusible. I would think the irregular edges of a design such as a state would lend itself well to using a fusible. What am I missing? Love this project!

    • @ManSewingVids
      @ManSewingVids  6 років тому +1

      Hi Linda! Ok, First save the State Map you wish to use as a JPG on your computer. Now time for posterazor, open the app, and import your JPG. Use the app settings to control your size, I like a .25 overlap on all pages for taping together. It then sends the final file to adobe as a multi page pdf for printing, so make you sure do hit save on the last window. Hope this helps! -- Rob
