If I had to read the instructions or someone explained to me how to square up a quilt, I would not get it. Not without the visual, it's just nice to see you demonstrate the details. Thank you, Rob. ✌️
After checking out MANY sites on how to square up and cutting my quilt and being so discouraged with the instructions, I finally found your's. Rob, this is exactly what I really wanted! Thank you so much! Incidentally, your quilt is amazing.
Thank you so much for explaining this in a simple way. I have gotten so confused from different people trying to explain or watching it on You Tube. I am going to watch all of your tutorials!
Mesmerized by your quilting design as I watched you square your quilt. I feel your free motion quilt design is telling a story, much like a beautiful painting. Thank you for your awesome teachings Rob
This was one of the best videos for squaring a quilt. I’m squaring my first quilt and it’s a big one. Thanks for all the specifics and the little tips (only use half your ruler!).
You are a quilting rock star! Thank you for simplifying the squaring up process. I don't need to submit my quilt to a Padukah quilt show, I just need to get it done. 🎊🎊🎊
Thanks for this video of squaring a large quilt. I'm making a king size quilt and was dreading the squaring up process. You made it look much simpler than I thought it would be!
Thank You Man Quilting 😀for the how to square up a quilt! I’m making the Mommy & Me baby quilt and am at that stage, it is working nicely!!!😀👍🏻 Btw: Google directed me to you for how to square up a quilt.
Thank you so much!! Big is always so much harder to deal with and people always show you how to trim a small item, which is no big deal. However, when it comes to a king size quilt it is a huge deal! And it was great see you in Houston!😍👏
Oh my goodness! You’re the best! I’ve watched 10 videos on squaring a quilt top and started to go cross eyed. Within the first 2 minutes of your video, I was understanding everything! Thank you thank you!!!
I've looked at this before, and now that I've finished sashing my quilt, and and am ready to learn to add borders, I want to square up what I have, considering one of the blocks is a whopping half inch off from the line up on one of the sides of the quilt. This ought to help. Next step is my experimenting with quilting, in which case stitch-in-the-ditch would be easiest, and then comes watching Rob again to square the whole thing up. When I first bought fabric, expensive as it is, I thought I would never dare cut it. It was one thing sewing apparel with pattern tissues - easy peasy - but it's another cutting squares and Flying Geese without being able to see what they will turn into. So thanks, Rob. You have more space than I do to use for cutting, but I'm sure I'll manage by rolling excess, as I had to do while pinning sashings.
What.a great tutorial thank you. From the UK I have only just come across your videos. New to quilting, for my second large quilt I pieced the backing fabric. For cornerstones on the last fabric strip before binding, I put checkerboard squares in the four corners. Trying to square up the quilt before trimming and binding, I lost some of the last row, making the quilt backing a little out of balance with two cornerstones. Oh how I wish I had seen your videos before!! I have now watched several videos from you and each one I have come away having learnt at least one very useful technique. Thank you again. Regards Alison
Hi Rob, I do more sewing of clothing and was never really interested in quilting until I found your videos! They are so informative and just really well put together! Keep up the great work!
I have always been taught that you square up the blocks then to keep the top square you measure your borders at 3 or 4 points across the quilt on all sides and average them out, cut at that average measurement and then sew them on the quilt and this process will keep the quilt square.
Rob, thank you so much! Was trying to figure out how to square my quilt top, only off by about 1/8 inch. Now I’m going to forget that and square up after quilting! Have learned so many techniques from watching your videos. Thank you, thank you!
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. I have watched many tutorials to learn how to square a quilt but never truly got it until this one. I will FINALLY finish a quilt now. You are awesome. Keep them coming.
Thank you SO MUCH for demonstrating on a large quilt! I just finished quilting a king sized quilt and was dreading the process of squaring it up. You make it look super easy so I don’t feel as intimidated now!
Awesome tutorial and I actually followed your directions to a T and my quilt is perfectly squared. There is a first time for everything! Many thanks, Rob!
Great tutorial! I wish I had a large table. But I do have a large mat and I put it on the wood floor in the kitchen. I just never knew how to square up! So I just did the best I could. Thank you for all the tips.
This was an awesome tutorial. My long armer is the one who trims my quilts after they are quilted. What I desperately need to know is how to square up a quilt TOP before it goes to the quilter for quilting? A tutorial on that would be wonderful!!
I use a small dumbbell on my quilt as I’m squaring it to stop it slipping off my table and on my yard ruler to keep pressure on it. I find what throws my quilt out of square is areas where it’s more densely quilted than others.
Hi, thank you very much for the information, now I know how to do this! Your quilt is beautiful & I love the design. Thank you for all you do, your teaching is clear and your programs are fun to watch (never boring).
Clear and precise instructions with speech when required, great workmanship and skills show in your work as you have produced a beautiful quilt. Thanks for sharing Rob 👍
Thank you again Rob for another great video. Wishing you & all your family a very Merry safe Christmas & a wonderful New Year. Come visit us in Australia ! Xxx
Thanks for the great video and your positive attitude. It helps when I don’t even want to LOOK at my quilting projects on some days. lol Loved the music, too.
It is such a great video, I will use your method the next time I finish a quilt. The two that I made this year got the I am doing the best I can job...LOL
Can you show us how to square up triangle blocks so they come out to the right size and you don’t lose your points? I’ve been making quilts for many years and triangles are still the hardest thing for me to get to come out with points. Thank you for the how to videos. They really help.
Rob how do you keep your ruler from sliding everywhere? I've tried everything to keep that ruler from sliding from hand placement, putting sticky dots on the bottom, to practically standing on top of it. It is very frustrating getting your cut going then the ruler going slightly to the left or the right in the middle of a cut. Thank you so much for your tutorials they are fun to watch and have been a blessing.
Thank you for this video! It helps. so what happens when you do all this and you measure the top and bottom persay and there is a say a half in difference. How do you fix the difference or for a small amount do you just let it go?
Hi...I love watching you demonstate techniques in quilting....My question is I'm making Jenny Doan's version of the Card Trick with the secondary design tucked in between the cards....How can I square these blocks up without ruining that corner design???
Brilliant tutorial Rob - really appreciate you doing the demonstaration on a huge quilt. Do you have a video on a pieced quilt backing? I see someone has asked this question too
Love this tutorial. First I've seen on squaring a large quilt. BTW I noticed all your great free motion quilting as you squared-up the quilt! Question: Got any hints on how to square-up a quilt that does not have blocks and does not have a border??? { I made one ... not quite finished. Solid piece and solid color top and backing with embroidery sunbonnet characters in individual scenes all over it.} I haven't done the quilting on it yet ... that will have to be free motion quilting ... more than likely a pebble path from scene to scene with a little grass and flowers here and there. (You can check out the Sunbonnet scenes at Embroidery Library.)
Do you have a video of how to piece backing fabric for a quilt? I'm about to start sewing my blocks and could could some advice on piecing back coz I'm getting close to that, probably still a couple weeks out since I only work on my quilts at night for 6 hours, 4 days a week while my husband works lol
If you have a double border, would you square up the quilt BEFORE you attach the second border, or square up the quilt AFTER you attach the second border?
If I had to read the instructions or someone explained to me how to square up a quilt, I would not get it. Not without the visual, it's just nice to see you demonstrate the details. Thank you, Rob. ✌️

Just wanting to say thank you!

Hi there Rob hope you and your family are well Amazing tutorial 👏👏👏👏👏👏 thanks for sharing xxx
This was one of the best videos for squaring a quilt. I’m squaring my first quilt and it’s a big one. Thanks for all the specifics and the little tips (only use half your ruler!).
Keeping half of the ruler on the already cut edge is an excellent tip I've never heard before. This video is very helpful. Thanks Rob!
You are a quilting rock star! Thank you for simplifying the squaring up process. I don't need to submit my quilt to a Padukah quilt show, I just need to get it done. 🎊🎊🎊

Oh my goodness! You’re the best! I’ve watched 10 videos on squaring a quilt top and started to go cross eyed. Within the first 2 minutes of your video, I was understanding everything! Thank you thank you!!!
Super tutorial. But loved seeing your free motion quilt work up close on your quilt. You are so creative and so inspiring.
I've looked at this before, and now that I've finished sashing my quilt, and and am ready to learn to add borders, I want to square up what I have, considering one of the blocks is a whopping half inch off from the line up on one of the sides of the quilt. You are awesome! I am not a man, but I have subscribed and look forward to many more videos. I saw the one where you basted this quilt. Great video!
Hi Rob, I do more sewing of clothing and was never really interested in quilting until I found your videos! They are so informative and just really well put together! Keep up the great work!
Thank you. I pieced a top a few months ago and I'm now ready to quilt it but needed a refresher on how to square it up.
Easiest to follow tutorial for squaring a quilt that I've ever seen. Thanks!
Finished is always better than perfect. I need to put that everywhere!
That quilt is gorgeous 😍

Brilliant video, I can't thank you enough, you made it so easy to understand, wonderful!
Love this video. Needed to square up a baby quilt before I put on the outside border. I found your video very helpful & in the nic of time! 😁
Thanks for this one, just finished building my first quilt. Pieced it, quilted it and now about to square and then bind it.
Is there a video for the Man Sampler? Or a list for which blocks are in it and videos for those? Thanks.
OMG: I love this video. I love your delivery here. Thank You So Much!

Really needed to see this, thanks Rob!

Awesome help! You rock!
So far this is the simplest way to square a quilt
Can you show us how to square up triangle blocks so they come out to the right size and you don’t lose your points? I’ve been making quilts for many years and triangles are still the hardest thing for me to get to come out with points. Thank you for the how to videos. They really help.

Brilliant tutorial Rob - really appreciate you doing the demonstaration on a huge quilt. Do you have a video on a pieced quilt backing? I see someone has asked this question too
Hello! Rob does not currently have a tutorial on how to piece the back of a quilt, but we will pass along the suggestion to him! Thanks!
Very helpful, Thank you.
Would like a copy of the pattern for this quilt. Have enjoyed watching your videos. I just started watching be because I was working
