    Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com! Today, we're getting a long look at the Rubberneck, from DOD. The Rubberneck is an exhaustive analog delay with more features than most digital delays on the market. With a ton of non-standard controls, the Rubberneck rightfully seizes the analog delay crown, giving you features such as tap tempo effects loops and several others that are mostly foreign to analog delay. Starting out with an insane 1.5 seconds of all-analog delay time, the Rubberneck doubles and triples down on the time control by offering tap tempo with quarter, eighth and dotted eighth subdivisions. A handy tails toggle lets you select buffered bypass, true bypass or buffered kill-dry modes for you intrepid time travelers. Aside from standard delay knobs, the Rubberneck also offers a rich concentric modulation section that ranges from a light spackling of shimmer to a well-worn dilapidated tape machine. A Tone control lets you lighten or darken the repeats, taking them well beyond the murkiness of a standard analog delay, or to a bright set of digital-sounding repeats that still fall apart like any good analog delay. A Gain control lets you juice the Rubberneck's preamp, for some gently broken-up repeats or some fully-saturated tape machine overload. For those looking to depart from typical delay lines, the Rubberneck's namesake function stretches and contracts the repeat pitch and delay time at a speed you select with the Rubberneck Rate knob. And if that's not enough, the Rubberneck's Tempo switch doubles as a Regeneration control, for momentary bursts of self-oscillation send your tone into orbit.

    i think its super super important to mention that if you purchase this increadible pedal you will need to make sure that you power it sufficiently. i say this because a friend of mine (which couldnt possibly actually be me) didnt know that the pedal requires 150ml amp. this led to him believing on atleast 8 occasions that the pedal was broken or at the very least, not dependable. After some research and I...i mean my friend, learned this though a random trouble shooting search. it happen initially when using a daisey chain. Then i purchased its own seperate power supply. problem went away but i secretely didnt really know why it had ever occured. It was only after i purchased a proper board, ding bat with a voodoo power supply that i realized the 150ml am requiemnt. I had plugged it into one of the 100ml amp ports and it funcitoned poorly. knowing that the voodoo power supply was brand new it forced me to dig deeper. i realized the requirement,(which is in the dang manual by the way) and when i plugged it into one of the ports which supports a higher milliamp draw, wow, no "white noise" or "static" you hear people talking about and rock solid dependable performance. so dont delay, delay, delay..sorry

    Andy crowns this thing the new king of Analog Delays and somewhere out there the Moogerfooger and Chase Bliss go, 'huh?' :)
    Seriously for $250.00 this thing sounds great ad is almost as feature laiden as some of the truly nerdy analog delays that I love. Good job DOD, who even knew you were still in the game for this sort of thing.
    And Andy, big ups on that little riff at the end where the synth sounding octave down just bounces back after each line. Very tasty.

      I really like the gonkulator reissue. I get that it's a weird pedal, but honestly I think it's incredibly fun. Plus if you switch off the ring mod it's still a good basic distortion. I actually like it with a tiny amount of ring mod on the distortion it's just something different.

    Nice delay pedal, but having an adjustable rate and regeneration (up to self oscillating) is a common feature on many delay pedals. I happen to use Line 6, Earthquaker, and Digitech delay pedals, and also the MOOCR Ocean Machine, all of which replicate what this Rubberneck does. The one function that might be interestingly unique is the DOD "rate octave glitch delay" . . . In any case, as always, good demo.

    Is it possible to change the tap ratio without having to tap the tempo again? In other words: Could I toggle between two ratios within one song? I would then replace the ratio toggle with a footswitch that toggles between eights and dotted eights. So many famous songs need the feature to toggle between two tap ratios, but no small delay pedal offers that!
    And you know what would be even greater than an analog delay with all the features of the rubberneck? A digital delay that offers more sound options. Imagine this pedal mixed up with the tonal possibilities of the Line6 Echo Park: Tape Simulation, Analog BBD Simulation with Vibrato (like EHX DMM) and Digital with CHorus (like 2290)...

    • @KStarDid
      @KStarDid 4 роки тому +1

      Hi perry. Same problem as you I think, yet I didn't buy it especially for this. I can't do what he does at 5:25 , cant' get separate repeats going up or down in pitch. I only get the rubberneck effect with a continuous note or chord stretching up and down. I think there is maybe a special way to press the footswitch... ? Anyway I don't think my pedal is defective, the first one I had was and it was exchanged, it had a bad low frequency lfo noise covering all. Also I noticed it must me plugged into a 300ma power supply at least because with a 200ma the sound is distorted. Don't know why it is indicated 150ma on the pedal... then a quick search told me that the recommended power supply is a 1200 ma !!!! Anyway I also own a 1200ma PS and the sound is exactly the same with the 300ma or the 1200ma PSU. But don't go below 300ma if you want a correct sound. I like the pedal but I would like to be able to do what he does after 5:25 like you I think ! I am using a FS3X but it makes no difference with this feature. I don't think the guy ever answers to any question unfortunately...

    • @mvperry3
      @mvperry3 4 роки тому +1

      KStarDid thanks for reaching out, always good to hear someone else’s notes from their experience. I haven’t come across any power supply issues, the digitech product page lists the power requirements as 9v dc, it also says it on the back of mine as well. I’ve had mine powered by one-spot along with my other pedals with no problems. I was able to fix my issue by adjusting the rate on the LED pot, classic ‘too excited to read the manual’ situation. I’ve been rubbernecking my face off ever since. try playing with the gain/tone in combination with each other as well as with the repeats, you can really dial in the amount of dirt/distortion you want or none at all. I put my phase 90 into the send/return and it was 3 suddenly 3 hours later.

    • @KStarDid
      @KStarDid 4 роки тому +1

      @@mvperry3 Make a test with a 300ma or more PSU on a recording desk and you will notice the difference : Far less distortion with clean sounds. Anyway the recommended PSU in the manual is the HARMAN PS0913DC-04 and it is a 1300ma !!! Don't know why they wrote 150ma, but many people like distortion anyway. Concerning distinct separate echoes going up and down in pitch which is my main issue because I can't get this effect my last try was not conclusive, I will try again but I still can't see what I am doing wrong. I tried to adjust every pot, led pot, press any switch, with or without the FS3X... There must be a very special way to use the pedal because all I get is the typical stretching up & down effect on the same note or chord when I press the rubberneck switch, not separate as he does at 5:25.

    • @mvperry3
      @mvperry3 4 роки тому

      KStarDid Distinct Echo is going up and down the pitch is all in the process of how he’s playing it. The short staccato notes allow for space in between and when timing the foot switch with how you hold it you can make each note register at a new pitch. It’s not a special button. Holding down the left foot switch for different amounts of time will create different effects.

    I clicked cos I was bored.. Didn't really care much about the pedal really and totally skeptical, ready to hate.
    Few riffs later, I'm totally loving it. Now I wan.. NEED it. Been trying to retire my (amazing) space hog & headroom pussy DMM for a while, even the fancy smunchy Chase Bliss didn't impress me, at all.. eww. Nice lookin pedal tho, that's about it.
    How did it happen?
    Well done, Digi/DOD team!
    Oh yeah and good job as always, Andy!

    Bought one but I think it's defective, going to send it back. There's a huge permanent low freq. LFO noise covering all the sound, I have tried many settings and using it with the FS3X but it never really works. The only thing that improves A LITTLE is pluging a 500ma 9v adapter instead of the 150ma indicated on the pedal. But improvement is not sufficient I need to cut ALL bass freq on the desk or amp to have an acceptable sound, but no bass...

    I wonder if it would be less wooly and muffled if I could hear it with a pick instead of fingers. Oh well.

    great if you're making dub, if you want a pedal that doesn't take over everything, doesn't make a lot of fizz and hum and is usable in a band situation, look elsewhere
