Your hand painting skills impress me again. The dark blue you chose is perfect and don't put yourself down about it looking flat. It looks more realistic and like a hand painted war machine.
This guy was actually my first master grade, and... well, there's some good things and some bad things I've found on mine. For good things; it has a very good shelf presence, holds the shield and sabres nicely, and when you hook the rifle onto the rear skirt in MS mode it looks even cooler. For bad things, however; transformation (as you mentioned) is atrociously frustrating (I'm just leaving mine in MS mode), and it can't hold the beam rifle for squat. Really, mine cannot hold it properly. I've only gotten it to hold the rifle by locking it under the thing's armpit (which, admittedly looks pretty cool)-- but most of the time, I'm just going to leave it locked into the rear skirt and have it use the shield as its main weapon. Still, I'm very satisfied with this guy.
i'm glad you can see the positive side of things, all things considered. there are many who consider the delta plus to be one of the worst master grades of all time, next to the victory gundam. if you are satisfied with the delta plus, then the good thing is that you should be blown away when you finally build one of the newer master grades that really does glow with quality.
The whole point of the kit is the flight mode. If you look at the position the pilot is sitting while you are putting it together gives away everything. Also, I like Delta Plus in that mode. It is what Hyaku Shiki should have been, but never was. In addition, it gives you the option to customize the hell out of it, and even allow you to convert it back into the original Delta Gundam. But beware, that requires a bit of painting and finding the correct parts for the original shield.
The balance issues surprised me. It doesn't have a huge backpack or a giant shield-thing like Quan[T] to cause weight issues on the side. Maybe you got one that has weak ankles or feet? Try stiffening up the joints in that area with some clear coat, super glue or nail polish.
Pretty good review overall. It's good that you offered an actual opinion on the overall quality--too many "reviews" simply present the model and do not give judgment on the product, which is the point of a review in the first place. Sounds like the Delta Plus has the usual Bandai transformable unit issues; proportions altered to accommodate a flimsy transformation, with the MS mode appearance suffering from a desire to make the WR mode look better. Still seems like a pretty good kit, though, and would be a nice basis for a possible MG Delta Gundam if Bandai ever had the mind. The Hyaku Shiki history lesson at the beginning is wildly wrong, though. The Hyaku Shiki IS the Delta Gundam. The waverider transformation was still incomplete when the AEUG requested delivery of the mobile suit prior to the Jaburo descent operation. Anaheim Electronics locked down the transformation and delivered what they had as the Hyaku Shiki. The raw Delta Gundam data was refined into the Delta Plus, and a handful of units were manufactured. Karaba and the AEUG ordered the Zeta Plus instead, so the few existing Delta Plus units were mothballed. One was later converted into the Delta Gundam Kai. /phew
This would go well with my Zeta Plus kits. :D I do not see myself minding those extra pieces for the transformation. Nice commentary as always. Too bad you broke parts. Nice share.
Just realized not too long ago that the extra ammo packs from this kit are supposed to go onto the ReZel Commander Type's shield. The ReZel Commander doesn't have its standard rifle nor its extra ammo packs to go with it. So if you haven't done so already, those ammo packs are supposed to go there.
sorry to hear your kit was damaged. i think the design of the D+ is pretty sweet. proportions are really nice. btw, you got some serious finger dexterity dude. with those digits you should be able to pick up air brushing really fast. it would make painting over plastic stress marks much easier than with regular brush ;)
Yo Jabman I built this kit back in December of 2012 and I had three pieces break on me in the first transformation alone. One is the one you said got clipped the second was the right part of the inbuilt v fin and the final was the right slider joint on the chest at the top. I feel your pain. I went a bought another. One to display in mobile suit mode and the first one is super glued in wave rider mode lols
you got it wrong; the delta gundam was before the hyaku shiki, but the delta gundam had poor design and the MS couldnt hold up to the transformation, and thus was scrapped and changed into the Hyaku shiki, the delta plus is the working version of the delta gundam. (which is why the hyaku shiki, delta gundam and delta plus have similar designs)
Haha, I can't help but to recall the transformation blues all over again. They have gotta try something like metal frame, seriously, 2 /3mm thick plastic hooking on to another is designed to break...

It looked like to me that you had to add those parts to the legs for stabilizing them during mid transformation and then the shield had to be moved. Did I misread what was said at by the rep at Shizouka about this model, or did they change it around since the prototype that was displayed?

I just knew that the Rezel commander would be better, saw your review on it a while back and I must say that it got me wanting! what is with bandai anyway? always making half-arsed transforming kits, it's like the Rezel commander is the only solid transforming ms(excluding unicorn, and gundam wing ms's..ok, nevermind)... XD
I made the Delta plus Kai 1/144 and it has similar problems with the balance and transformation but the 1/144 has wierd part that removes the head but what can you expect from a high grade. I'm honestly suprised you didn't have the Banshee bitch slap the Delta plus at the end as when the Banshee did in the OVA I was laughing my ass off. Final note : Any transformation Kit I've ever made the transformation is what makes the kit so damn aggravating.

Not only was the Delta Gundam never made(so it couldn't be used in Unicorn), it's specs are inferior to the Delta Plus, which was a refined version of the design. It'd be like replacing the Gundam Mark II with the original RX-78-2.

@jabman025 i have this kit and i love it my girlfriend got it for me, i agree with the ankle situation blaming it on the transformation. but anyways do you have any problem with holding the gun and the beam sabers? the gun sprew was taken from the rezel and the hand manipulator is different.
I am still wondering if you'll do the review of its counterpart the Zeta Plus C1, or is that still a "hush hush, wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more" thing

aside from the small base on the foot, i think the major reason why it is not stable because the ankles are weak or loose...

you got it wrong; the delta gundam was before the hyaku shiki, but the delta gundam had poor design and the MS couldnt hold up to the transformation, and thus was scrapped and changed into the Hyaku shiki, the delta plus is the working version of the delta gundam. (which is why the hyaku shiki, delta gundam and delta plus have similar designs)
