I redid the seats in my car myself. I have red interior and wanted to stick with red. Not too many options for red seats that I liked, so I bought the acme covers and new seat foams from LMR. The replacement foam "raised" the seat a lot. That could be because mine were so worn out though. The acme covers look pretty decent. I'm pretty happy with it for the price and time I got into them
I have a 1987 mustang GT with the Original GRAY plaid cloth Interial. Driver side is beginning to wear a little. Can't FIND same material Anywhere...It is 2022 almost 2023. With all the Technology in the World, it looks like SomeOne should be able to MAKE the GRAY, RED, and TAN material for this type of Mustang! This Material to me IS What Makes the CAR WHOLE! GOD BLESS!
I stacked up nearly 5 pairs of gray 87-89 tallbacks at the junk yards over the years. Some of the passenger seats are minty and can easily switch the foam over the top seat frames. I plan on using the passenger bottoms someday when the 2 pair I am currently using in my 90GT & 93LX wear out completely. My 82GT has reupholstered 83GT seats, black with the netted headrests. New foam & upholstery! I have a decent but beat 90GT black tweed seats in my 83GT convertible, which is ok because they match the condition of the car. I am always planning ahead with seats
I love the pace car netted recaros in a fox especially with the netted halos I feel these look the best in looks for a fox But expensive…. Now recently I got some neon srt4 seats at the junkyard for 40$! And put them into my fairmont and mannn they hold you in nice and are so comfortable and they don’t look too bad !
i got me a 91 lx white with black interior 5 spped car ,,,,i am original owner car has 49 k miles and has never seen rain or snow and noone has ever sat in the rear seats and front seats are like new ...car has been parked in a well ventilated garage its whole life and looks like new
Good information, thanks for the video. My jaw dropped when you removed the cover from your red GT, beautiful my dream car! I had a really nice 1993 GT in reef blue, wish I hadn't sold it.
I've been very lucky...still have the original seats in my '91 Notchback pull out bolster's and power lumbar but I am the first and only owner of my Mustang...my seats still looks brand new...Black seats are the best that's why I ordered them when I was ordering my Notch in '91
85-86 GT seats in mine. Love the halo headrests and red piping on checker Velour. Hands down the coolest stock seats. Good side bolsters not much back support though
I have the stock SVO seat, with netted halo head rests. Love the look! My fabric is in great shape for a 85 SVO, but could use some new foam in places.
I love my big headrests, lumbar support, and slide out leg thingamahoochie. Would probably go with a good cloth recover, or even go with simulated leather. "Naugahide" has come a long way since the 70's. 😆 The thing I don't like about most new seats is the firmness of the foam. It feels like you are sitting on Big Lots furniture, if you know what I mean. As far as the LMR's staining, I would Scotchguard the snot of 'em before installing. They look good, but I prefer the stock design. Another great video, bud!
Agree. Most new stuff is toooo firm. In that era Chrysler always made much better sitting seats. I use them in hotrods. I found that Scotch Bright tends to ball up, kinda like those tiny fuzz balls on a cheap polo shirt. Then they can't be removed. I quit using SB years ago.
@@hotrodray6802 I didn't know the Scotchguard did that. We have used it on rugs to prevent stains from spills, and it works great for that. Good to know.
I redid my factory seats with the TMI 03/04 cobra style seats in my vert. They came with new foam and covers and install on the factory foxbody seat frames. Wasn't that difficult, but you definitely sit up higher with the new foam. I added seat heaters while I was at it because, why not... I'm not a fan of the tweed seats but they're cool if you're trying to keep that old school look.
I have really nice original stock black seats. I really like them, but was afraid of messing them up. So I went with Braum racing seats and bought their brackets. They sit great. Drove to and from foxtoberfest without any issues.
My interior is all black the driver side seat needs the foam replaced in the bottom I believe I'm going to try to get that done this winter luckily no rips yet..
Timely info, I'm in the process of choosing which seats I want for my GT. Was thinking Recaro, but good lord, they're pricey. Corbeau is an option too.
Do you know if the LMR seats are as susceptible to "gangster lean" as the stock seats? I'm guessing the LMR seats haven't been out long enough to get a readout on how durable they are, but I thought I'd at least ask. Thanks.
The lean is because the sheet metal on the floor mount tears, it isn't the seat, it's the floor pan mounting sheet metal. Repair kits are available to alleviate the problem.
@@05gtdriver the seat back spot welds break and/or the seat back frame cracks. The floor can be an issue but the seat back is really the core culprit for the gangster lean. Check CJ's project 55 video for more details.
Great video, great content and topic. I don't have a foxbody but do have a new edge mustang with leather seats that are having the same situation with tear in the driver seat and starting on passenger seat. Deciding on getting recovered or replace.
The stock seats are the most comfortable seats ive ever sat in so im sticking with them, powered lumbar and everything is just awesome and feels like a race seat to me, im also 6’5 so i need to be low and they are low and comfortable
The leather on my 62k mile vert is pretty much perfect, but I always wonder if replacing the foam would make the seats more supportive (while retaining the factory leather). Or maybe the fox body seats were never that comfortable and supportive on longer drives.
Good job. Anything is better than the broke down 4 cyl seats. Sn95/New Edge seats can also be found in good condition and have a bit more modern look (I did that in the 91). On my 89, since I have the Y harness seatbelts, I think I will go aftermarket racing.
Recaro specialist feel really good and sit about about the same height as factory. I used to have corbeau gt2 in grey but those seats sit really high and don't get me started on the material those things got stained from water crappy in my opinion.
Great comparison video and explanations! I would go with the LMR seats even if the color was a little off. I would have a hard time convincing myself to spend a lot of money for used seats! 💯👊🏾
I did the Acme kit and new foam and did a little review video on my UA-cam channel check it out. They turned out great IMO it looks just like stock seats.
Went to reupholster my seats (+ foam on the driver seat) couldn’t figure out the headrest. Figured I would take a break and watch this. The upholstery if you have patience isn’t bad takes time tho I probably spent about 6 hours for all seats. (First time doing upholstery) Lmr kinda messed up tho because I could see my previous purchases and realized I spent about 12k between my two mustangs the past few years 😂. [typed this once I finished doing my seats i would recommend buying the upholstery yourself from lmr selection if you don’t mind the colors matching perfectly.]
I wish someone made a proper Tweed upholstery option! There are some that are very close, but they are missing the faint red lines (Smoke Grey), and it just bothers the heck out of me. Tweed 4 life in a GT!
The LMR seats are the best of both worlds in my opinion. You keep the factory look, however, in my opinion they actually look better than the factory seats. Surely red ones are coming?
I have recovered the stock seats and bought a set of LMR seats. The LMR seats are great but the material is terrible. The gray shows everything. They need a different material. Recover your stock seats is my recommendation. Places run the stuff to do it on sale from time to time.
I have factory grey tweed in my 89LX right now. The car only has 44K miles on it and the seats are in GREAT shape. I hope I never have to replace them as the car will only see light duty from here on out. With that said, I love the factory tweed design and wish someone could replicate it. I mean it was made in the 80's why can't it be made now? Anyway, if I ever have to replace my tweed I would just go with a grey leather (similar to the 93 Cobra) and call it done. Anything that is not identical to the tweed would just disappoint me every time I looked at it. So, switching to grey leather would be my only option.
I have Thunderbird Turbo coupe seats in my fox body looks same as fox mustang seats, do anyone know if they can be recovered with 85-86 GT or pace car foam and covers from TMI?
screw the looks for right now...my driver seat is sunk in real good to fit my big fat butt and my passenger gets the firm feel in the passenger side...whats the problem?lol yes i would like the looks but for a stock dailey driver im happy my original seat holds my ass just right and my passenger thinks the car is new!!! lol............
Installing Corbeau seats and a MGW shifter was the best interior upgrade I have ever done and completely changed the driving experience of my fox
Agreed. My Corbeau seats fit great and are comfortable.
MY SVO seats are the most comfortable out of the fox body's second would be the Thunderbird Turbocoupe seats looked just like mustang seat but power.

Good information, thanks for the video. My jaw dropped when you removed the cover from your red GT, beautiful my dream car! I had a really nice 1993 GT in reef blue, wish I hadn't sold it.
Great video, I loved the stock style seat from LMR, aside from being a bit firm. They are a must if your factory seat frame is bent or broken.
I bought the black seats from lmr....I love them. They are pretty good for money.
Definitely a good video! Helps me make a decision on what I was thinking with my seats
I think I’m going to run the race seats because I like the fact it wraps around you

Got 2004 cobra seat in my fox - direct fit and alot more comfy
IMO there's nothing nicer than a good old set of stock Foxbody mustang seats. base or sport seats both are nice.
85-86 GT seats in mine. Love the halo headrests and red piping on checker Velour. Hands down the coolest stock seats. Good side bolsters not much back support though
Had my factory seats recovered with black and silver leather along with the door panels, looks real nice.

I think the new lmr seats are a good choice good to know they sit a little higher too. thanks👍a vinyl or leather would be nice.
I want the black version of the Calypso clone
My interior is all black the driver side seat needs the foam replaced in the bottom I believe I'm going to try to get that done this winter luckily no rips yet..
I've put 7up foxbody seats in my SN95 because they're so comfortable to just cruise around in
Most of my interior is original replacement, but I went with Sparco seats. I’ve got a bunch of gauges so I decided not to go all original.
Timely info, I'm in the process of choosing which seats I want for my GT.
Was thinking Recaro, but good lord, they're pricey. Corbeau is an option too.
Corbeau gts seats are the best. They look awesome and feel great too. So happy I installed them

If they start doing black leather with the repop seats I'm all over it! Wouldn't really mind not having the knee bolster I honestly never even use it
I got some lightly used Lmr gray seats for sale. Also got corbeau seat covers to go with them.

Any good upholstery shop can replace the foam with firmer foam and reassemble.
I heard that the SN95 seats are lighter & fit the Foxes. Is this right?

85-86 grey seats with halos..it's not debatable lol
Great comparison video and explanations! I would go with the LMR seats even if the color was a little off. I would have a hard time convincing myself to spend a lot of money for used seats! 💯👊🏾
ive had many cars in my life and hands down my 91 lx original seat is most comfortable seat of all the cars ive had
I'm actually thinking about going with new edge seats I just have base LX seats nothing special like those sweet GT seats
I did the tmi seats in my Fox with the new foam and I like them. The opal grey is real close and the fit is perfect. I was happy with them.
I bought the lmr and am considering buying the lowered slides to drop them a half inch for better steering wheel clearance
02 mint gt seats in my fox. I want the mach1 covers with red stripe to set mine off
I did the Acme kit and new foam and did a little review video on my UA-cam channel check it out. They turned out great IMO it looks just like stock seats.

I love my base LX seats, but that’s just me.🦊
🔔😎Ya, that's me. I'm gonna spend a grand on new seats and then sit on towels. 😆😆😆😎
Don't hate me....I have 2016
Camaro SS seats in mine and love them, lol.
Are those seats wider by chance??
@@SuperThugnifacent they are but will fit, tight though.
my covers are in really good shape (need some deep cleaning), but the rest of the seat is GONE

what seats are lowest ,if you are over 6 ft?
