The hotel at the time it was built was a real jewel for the Spring area with many celebrities and socialites of the time spending endless moments in its premises. In the 1980s, it was the permanent accommodation of the Olympiakos team, as well as a hangout for the players of the National Team of Alketas Panagoulias.
The "Rainbow " hotel was for years one of the biggest "thorns" in the life of the famous singer, as sometime in the late 80's he decided to rent it, but with tragic results.
"The people who had rented it for sixteen years, while the lease had expired, did not leave the premises. In the summer of 2016, after a court decision, but also with the help of a bailiff and a locksmith, we opened it - because it was locked and they didn't give us the keys - and we went inside. We were shocked by the images of vandalism that we saw in all its spaces.Everything was broken and looted. With sledgehammers they had broken the interior walls, doors, floors, plumbing, sanitary ware, tiles, televisions, everything. The air conditions and all electrical items from the kitchen were missing, as well as the amazing and very expensive piano, which was on the ground floor and was a gift to Giannis from our great composer. What they had left was in a miserable condition... We received a vandalized hotel, which can no longer be easily rebuilt, especially in such times of crisis."
The building is literally torn apart, even the tiles and walls have been stripped away in a resort that was a jewel for the Northern Suburbs area. Unfortunately, today's image looks like a ghost hotel from vandalism and desolation, with the Poulopoulos family taking legal action over the debts and damages the hotel has suffered.
The dramatic image of the hotel that the singer built with love became the reason for him to be rushed to the hospital, in 2017, with a serious problem with his heart. On August 23, 2020, our beloved singer Yiannis Poulopoulos breathed his last at the Attiko hospital from a pulmonary problem.
Now, nothing reminds the legendary hotel "Rainbow" and the glorious moments of the past...
