Dwight Yoakam should have got an Oscar for this.
Mr Luthor he won a Kaiser.
At least two of em
Agreed. He nailed this role perfectly!
Was he even nominated? His character was quite offensive but his acting was superb.
Sadly no.
Does anyone else find this hilarious?
+Ron Armstrong yes indeed! funniest scene in the movie
I don't think it was meant be be funny, but it came out that way. I'm pretty sure Dwight Yokam didn't need a script for this.
its funny as hell lmao
Rumor has it that Yoakam pretty much IS like this in his own band... but I guess you can't blame him; he's probably the only sane son-of-a-bitch.
It's funny until you experience someone like this in your life. Then it becomes scary and traumatic.
Dwight should have won an Oscar for his Doyle Hargraves role it was so awesome .
Truth
I got fucked right out of that one
Dwight isn't only be an awesome singer but he's really an actual Spectacular Actor.. Yessum, he should have won more of awards in his music and acting Career.... He's still going strong..Moving and Shaking..Has his own family...
@@AnitaKirby-dt3lt I think dwight sings one of the best country songs ever written. It's called "It Won't Hurt". My favorite medley of Dwights is when he sings A verse of This Won't Hurt, then goes into singing Merle Haggards Today I Started Loving You Again. Then finishes It Wont Hurt. You can find it on here.
If you've never been in a band, you have no idea how great this is...
ABSOLUTELY.
@RP SC This scene is my absolute favorite of all time.
@RP SC never been in a band but I imagine for a lot who never go on to do anything of note it’s an excuse to sit around and get drunk
@RP SC hey you might be Paul McCartney for all I know, just speaking in general terms :p
Go home and practice you tuning sum bitch
I love all the nuances in this film. Doyle should have listened to the words more, they foreshadow his exact death. Karl sure split the waters of his Medulla Oblongata.
Yes
Good catch!
The Duck quack when he throws the beer out of the window out of frustration due to being the "only sane summab***h here!" !!! 😂🤣😂 1:33 🦆
Leaving his SOUL
That's Col. Bruce for you
Hard to believe that four actors in this scene are no longer with us.
Which four
John Ritter not sure of the other 3
@@Reallythough John Ritter, Vic Chesnutt, Col. Bruce Hampton, and Mickey Jones
@@trueknowledgeispower Thanks.
Billy Bob Thornton must have known dudes like this. there's no way you come up these characters out of the blue lol
Shit, I’ve known people like this.
@@negativeindustrialI am one of these people

@@chrisdraughn5941 Rent free.
These dudes are all over.
If you have the ability to make a sect of a population hate you for your depiction of being drunk, without being drunk, you deserve an Oscar.
I liked his character, was my favorite
Who hates him for being drunk? They hate him for being a fucking ahole!
Dwight Yoakam is brilliant.
Agreed! For me, he is what this movie memorable with his fits of rage and blunt, often tactless honesty! He definitely deserved at least an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor!
Max Welter He’s a genius!
Yeah I thought so too! Anything Dwight does is awesome!
I didn't even realize that this was Dwight until like 2 years after I saw this movie.
The look on John Ritter face when the wheelchair dude hit the door is priceless!!!! Lmmfao!!
🤣🤣🤣
Wheelchair dude is Vic Chesnutt :)
@@frankieturner8141 It blew my damn mind when Vic Chesnutt popped up on the screen in this one. BBT’s connections run deep!
BWAHAHAHA
That is Vic Chesnutt. One of the greatest lyricists of the last 100 years. And Col Bruce Hampton ret. The man, the myth, the legend! May they both rest in peace.
"That a Damn good song wasn't it Doyle? You like that song? Aighht hooooow." I piss myself laughing how Col. Bruce Hampton delivers this line and the way he shakes his cheeks. Fkin perfection
Ive tried to start a band a few times and this is pretty much how it goes every time
They way he said "SOOOOUL", destroyed my game face! I felt that deep in my SOOOOUL!🤣🤣🤣
"Randy, you tunin' sonofabitch"
I've played with some guitar players that can't ever quit "tunin" and it is maddening. Makes you want to throw liquor bottles and shit.
That damn Steve Cropper sonovabitch…( like they do in poetry)
That's Ian Moore from Austin!
@@scottl5678i admit i like to tune but in my defense sometimes it doesn’t sound right to me. Or the G string doesn’t want to cooperate 😂
"Ya'll dont shut up I'm gonna go outta my mind."
That is one part that I agree with Doyle. That's the only part.
Underrated comment.
I'm also partial to "Don't be a p***y Vaughn, we all gotta work tomorrow."
I think he keeps his face covered during that scene because he's clearly laughing his ass off.
The only way I can describe this movie is beautifully tragic, and tragically beautiful. Karl knew he couldn't survive in this huge world. He also knew that Frank and Linda could only be happy if Doyle was gone. He knew that Doyle was a dangerous man, and as much as Vaughan cared about them, he couldn't protect them from Doyle. Doyle had to die, plain and simple. He would have killed Linda and Frank eventually. I do hope that they visited Karl from time to time. The movie is most definitely one of my favorites.
Excellent analysis. This wonderfully written tragi-comedy is truth -filled as I grew up in rural Arkansas where Billy Bob Thorten grew up. The characters are real because the dialogue is real. Yoakam found his true calling even though he is an excellent singer.
That is why it is one of my favorite movies. It was a complete act of love for Karl to sacrifice himself for the well being of that family. Karl was actually just brilliant enough to know what needed to be done without knowing another way to do it. A dark act of violent murder was actually a selfless act of love.
@@billbelzek6748 hate to break it to you but those uneducated yokel Trump Deplorables are 10x smarter than your average urbanite who was dumb enough to get 100 grand in debt just to get a piece of paper that says they're smart.

Me & Morris wrote a song just outside the Mini Mart. It's called Stewart drives a comfortable car. Then in parenthesis like in songs it says "There's usually someone in the Trunk".
Poetic shit goin down outside the Mini Mart.

It's that comfortable
A portrait of lost souls and lost purposes.
He looks completely mad, but you suspect maybe he's seen something important nobody else has noticed.
"Baking the cookies of discontent." Deep dish thougnts
"Parting of the medulla oblongata" Forshadowing much? ROFL
"Stay outta my god damned face ya' fuckin buzzard"
Dwight was an incredible actor in this movie. So many great lines and scenes.
Carl here’s liable to bust a spring, he’s already off balance!! Lol
Best line imo, he drags Carl who is keeping to himself into this convo HAHAHAHAH

Never thought I'd ever laugh at the sight of a disabled person being abused but I about died when he grabbed that wheelchair..🤣🤣🤣
I'm not going forget watching this movie with family and my stepbrother going into hysterical laughter when Doyle wheels the guy against the door.
Dwight Yoakam killing it as Doyle. I mean he really makes you hate him in this film.
i had no idea that was Dwight , acting was so good it fooled me completely!
Supposedly at the premier, Dwight's own mother turned to him and said "I'm glad he killed you!"

And we dont need no shit ass manager either....

His name is Bruce Hampton as Morris. The flavor Hampton brings to this scene is spectacular. "The Dots are where I say they are"
I've watched this a thousand times and it never gets old!! Lmfao!!!
Omg this is the best part of the movie!! I never laughed so damn hard. Dwight Y is one hell of an actor to be well known as a country singer ya never think he could act this great!! Bravo , he and billy bob deserved academy awards for this movie!
I completely agree with you. Both actors deserve to be recognized by the Academy for all their efforts in making this film. BB Thornton is such an underrated actor for some reason, politics perhaps ? BB Thornton had written, directed, and acted in this cinematic masterpiece. This film belongs preserved in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington.
Oh, and by the way, my Dad and I watched this movie in 1996, and 24+ years later, my Dad is STILL saying "It aint got no gas in it, Mmmmm Hmmm

True. But let's also credit the richness of the character name of Doyle.
Everyone in this movie deserved Oscars
WE DON'T GOT NO G'DAMN BAND!!! WE DON'T NEED TO F'N PRACTICE RANDY!!! I laugh everytime.
Yo he was on Randy's ass 😂
The thing about this and the patio scene is each of these actors are very accomplished musicians and singers, so for them to play local yokels who can’t write or play a lick is hilarious.
My brother and I quote Yoakum's lines back to one another.
"Stay outta my face you fuckin' buzzard!"
Don’t be a pussy ass bitch. “Stay outta my GODDAMN face you fuckin buzzard”
I used to work with a guy who acted just like Morris. They even looked alike. Rest in peace, Bruce Hampton. He died May 1, 2017 in Atlanta, Georgia.
This is one scene I have remember for many, many, many years. I will say Billy played the role of Carl AMAZINGLY, but people overlook what a GREAT job Dwight Y. did, he played this character SSSOOOOOO well. I love his character!!

Randy: Okay. Good night, Doyle.
Stay outta my Godamn face you fuc$ing buzzard!
Such a great movie. The combination of hilarity and sadness are what makes it. That and some great performances by everyone involved.
And through all this Karl is thinking about putting an edge on his lawn mower blade.
mm hmm!!
some folks call it a Kaiser blade
@@joeywheeler8362 No, the Kaiser blade reference came earlier in the movie when he described what he used to kill his mother and her lover. In the scene where he kills Doyle, even Doyle asks him what he's doing with the lawn mower blade.
"We don't need to fuckin' practice!!!!"
Me at softball practice this past Saturday 😡
this is my favorite scene. the other one was when they are jamming on the patio lmfao. but this scene is the best

"The one string boogie". 😂
That song they are playing on the patio deserves its own wing in the Rock and Roll hall of fame!
Dwight did such a good job as Doyle, I heard his own mother applauded his character death when she first watched Slingblade.
LMAO, Holy shit!! That is total news to me! And Elvis's mom cried when she saw him get killed in "Love Me Tender"!
RIP Bruce Hampton, "Morris".
How I miss Morris.

Colonel Bruce Hampton - RIP.
The man was a treasure.
By the time I saw this in the theater, I had already seen Col Bruce & ARU like 5 times. But I didn't recognize him. My friend had to clue me in.
"RANDY, YOU TUNIN' SONOFABITCH!!!"
I died when he crashed the wheelchair guy into the door hilarious
"To mad to turn back" lol
very convincing acting in this movie thats why it was so brilliant.
I think it's high time for Karl to get released from the nervous hospital and make a sequel.

This is probably the greatest unintentionally funny movies ever made.. Almost every scene is freaking hilarious..😂😂😂
Almost the entire movie makes me smile lol. I’ve never seen a movie with quite the same tone and I mean that as a compliment.
We dont got no god damn band
This is the funniest scene in this movie. "Leaving his soul."😂😂
The look on Vaughan's face at exactly 0:32 is priceless.
My favorite scene in the entire movie! ...and the next few seconds that apparently can't be shown on UA-cam.
I quoted this all the time in highschool. Had a friend Randy on the baseball team. During practice I would yell that at him. "We don't need to fuckin practice Randy."
He would just be like "Ok."
😂😂
Colonel Bruce Hampton what a way to go 70th birthday party music jamming and everything has a heart attack right there
He was known for Pratt falls through the years they thought he was just playing a joke but he really wasn't this time
While playing the song "Fixin' to Die".
Baking the cookies of discontent.....by the heat of the laundromat vent. Brilliant.
The exasperation in his voice when he says "RAAAAN-DY" is hysterical. ~Band~ Meetings 101.
And, well... least he warned 'em first?
I absolutely love this scene! Too good!
As if someone could do that to a man in a wheelchair. Doyle was a bastard. Dwight was superb.
Vic Chestnutt actually was really wheelchair bound
This brings back memories, before our weekend band practice.
One of the best scenes ever. Amazing acting and chemistry.
Leaving his soul!! I wish they would've given Morris more air time
they did at the end. they play the song........the thrill.
Yeah, I got a new tune that's in composition it's entitled, "The Thrill. " Goes somethin like this: I stand on the hill, not for a thrill... but for a breath of a fresh kill. And nevermind the man who contemplates... doing away with license plates. He stands alone anyhow... baking the cookies of discontent... by the heat of the laundromat vent. Leavin his soul. Then, like in poetry... I go dot, dot, dot. You know, kinda off-center, then I drop down... and then I go: Leaving his soul... partin the waters of the medulla oblongata... of... mankind. That damn good song, wutn't it Doyle? You like that song? All right... haawww!
Rest in peace, Bruce Hampton. He died May 1, 2017 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Dwight Yoakam is a great actor. What an awesome overlooked performance.

"I'm the only sane sumabitch here!"
That's debatable.
