@@aronhatkid1299 thing is, his deck had Gaia the Fierce Knight, Dark Magician, Summoned Skull, Curse of Dragon, and those were the more common monsters, not counting the Fusions (Gaia the Dragon Champion) or Rituals (Black Luster Soldier).

You know, there is some geniune flavor in using Backup Soldier to get the Exodia pieces back. "My deck has no pathetic cards" indeed
On the one hand, Kaiba can afford playsets of all the broken meta staples like La Jinn and Battle Ox, but Solomon's probably had experience using a wide variety of cards thanks to all the bulk he's exchanged throughout the years. He'd probably find a way to win with his jank if he wasn't on the verge of a heart attack the entire duel, that had to have been a major distraction.
Not to mention, at least in the Golden Castle arc, he’s not stranger to weird cards that are strong if used correctly like his Ancient Dragon

I once played against someone with a vanilla Exodia Deck and he won in his first turn.
He had Exodia, heart of the Underdog and reload. The rest was random normal cards. I think its s realy Cool combo!

Bro I swear, this combo you used to get both Xodia legs is just breathtaking, no synchro summoning, no Pendulum bullshit just some simple cards and a big brain.
I would take a combo like this any day over that new rocket science the game has been bombarded with lately.
same. New cards are designed to only work in a very specific way to prevent weird OTK strategies with old cards but back when cards had very general effects, anytime someone pulled off combos like this it was so much hype and even though the cards are simpler, it feels way smarter to pull this off than a 20 minute link summoning turn that just works on its own by you clicking "yes" to every effect prompt and not even reading the cards

Pegasus’ use of the Millennium Eye would prevent Solomon’s Exodia strategy to come to fruition. By itself, Pegasus would ascertain of what pieces are in the hand and would work around them. All Pegasus has to do is “fine-Toon” his Toon Deck around Exodia and would exploit it.

@@tweso1499 You are likely right, but on the other hand he may have help from Atem. As seen with the seal or orichalchos, if one loses their soul the other will still live. Therefore, either Atem would be at Duelist Kingdom aiding Grandpa, or Grandpa would be wearing the millennium puzzle himself.
Halfway through the video and it made me think that grandpa just passed his plot armour to yugi just look at sam drawing the exodia pieces 😂😂

Well let's not forget that in Yu-Gi-Oh season 1 there were actually different rules. Each duelist has only 2000LPs, but also, sacrifices aren't required, and you can't attack an opponents life points directly.
The fact Yugi defeated Kaiba with Solomon's deck, means that at least in theory, Grampa Muto could have beaten Kaiba.

Dang....i was 17 when the 1st episode debuted on Kids WB! I was literally Kaiba's age!!!! Man that takes back and I'll never forget it! Happy Thanksgiving everyone and Kaiba's got plot armor! Yugi's grandpa was Indiana Jones back in the day!
Nah let's be real Kaiba's deck is objectively better. It's not just plot armor. If anything it's yugi who has plot armor against Kaiba. Case in point: blue-eyes magically self-destructing when he was losing and the absurd magical arrow shenanigans in the third duel. Even the battle city duel he only won because of lol-friendship plot twists. Yugi would actually lose every single game he's ever played against Kaiba if he wasn't literally the main character.

8k LP and having to sacrifice to summon higher level monsters really helped grandpa's deck, if it was with the weird first episode rules then the duels would have been shorter lol

Considering that at this point in the show both people started with 2,000 life points and monsters could attack as soon as you summoned them (after turn 1), AND you didn't need to tribute in order to summon high level monsters, If Kaiba drew Blue Eyes on turn 1 it'd be GG
Counterpoint. At this point in the show you couldn't attack directly without a specific card effect, meaning it was actually viable to just never summon a monster until you had something you thought was useful.

You know I used to be impressed at Kaiba's briefcase full of cards until I suddenly realized something: they're all freebie drops in the games or commons! At least in episode 1 I mean, in Battle City Arc I think it had stuff that hadn't yet become canon yet like De-Poly and several SR original cards but that episode one case was actually a terrible deal unless the UR stuff was on the bottom! XD Either that or rarities in Yugioh were weirder than we thought in anime canon.
also got to take into account for the like the 1st few sets of yugioh beginning they put a lot of cards from multiple sets in mostly asia side in the OCG side into 1 big set into global side, so some rarities might be different from the tcg vs the ocg
Yeah, originally in the anime, since you can summon any monster without tribute, star/level only decide how rare a monster card is, which is why we get lotsa big level monsters with poor stats, BEWD being this Ultra Rare card ofc still makes sense since it's 8 stars (The highest stars at the time) with good stats to back it up.

Now we find out if Kaiba’s BS rules made the difference. Because I always thought if he had to tribute summon, Kaiba would brick so much.
It's not really "Kaiba's BS rules". It's Pegasus' ruleset.
In universe, Kaiba start by playing using Pegasus' ruleset (in particular it's the ruleset used for Pegasus' tournament on the island), but then he creates his own ruleset for his "Battle city" tournament where you now need to tribute monsters.
IRL, the story about Kaiba adding the tribute rules was published roughly at the same time as the tribute rules were added to the IRL ruleset.

My only issue with this is that that wasn’t Solomon’s deck. Canonically, Solomon’s deck was the exact same one Yugi used in Duelist Kingdom, just with the addition of Exodia and possibly Time Wizard.

That deck is full of anime only cards. Ancient Dragon, those ruins, the Stone Giants, Legendary Gambler, etc., never printed.

Bunch of weak vanillas and in that briefcase you have some really good vanillas and even fusions.With that briefcase you can make a really good deck and easily defeat mkst of the duelist kingdom competitors! When you used exodia, it gave me flashbacks of one of my scariest nightmares ever!! Exodia obliterated me but it felt real like I died or something I woke up sweating scared outta my mind it still kinda gives me anxiety!!

@TeamSamuraiX1: This test is inaccurate, because grandpa deck at the begining of the series did not have negated attack, and neither back-up soldier, to get back exodia pieces from the graveyard, and also it is not accurate because, in the anime they play the 2000 lp rules, with no tributed for high level monster, no attack dirrectly, and can only attack with one monster..
I believe the original explanation was that the virtual reality sort of tricked the brain into really thinking they were taking damage (sooooo real!!!!) so grandpa lost more by the shock of it than anything, also they weren't playing by the original rules, Kaiba could summon his BEWD at any given time
i dont see why this was ever in question. grandpa's deck was a meta exodia deck for the time
1. alternate win condition (blue eyes)
2. heavy defensive and stall cards
3. ways to recover from discards
4. seeker cards
and kaibas was simple raw aggression.
