  • A typical day of steelhead fishing in Oregon involves lots of rain and lots of casting. The cost for this trip is 1/2 a tank of gas, 25$. At times it seems there are no fish in the river until you hook on of these magnificent fish!

    Well done! I’ve fished steelhead my entire life. You described it well; drive from hole to hole, try your chosen technique over and over until……….BINGO, Fish on. I’ve got so many stories and that’s what it’s about: the stories! Thanks for an entertaining show!

    The broodstocking in Oregon is unmatched at providing strong runs of hatchery and wild steelhead. Washington state is complete failure.

    Just came across your video... Dig it 😎. Just getting back to some fishing 🎣 just about all healed up from my cancer surgery... I've been catching trout already but I think I'll be switching to salmon and steelhead soon. Still a little achy but I'll muscle through it.... LoL 🤣😎

      Thanks for the comment! You must have been going through a lot, glad to hear you are getting back to some fishing. The salmon fishing on the Columbia has been good lately if you can get up near Astoria, otherwise winter steelhead will start up here in a few months.

    I fished the Wilson, Clackamas, Nehalem and Rogue rivers and Tillamook bay in the late 70s. Good times. My PB was a 12 lb Steelhead on 8 pound test using bobber and worm.

    Eric, moved to Hillsboro 2 years ago from WA. I’m 63 & still trying to figure out the Wilson. What an absolutely gorgeous river system. Recognized several spots I’ve I’ve either pinned or fished…….zero fish so far. I’m curious about the hole at part 2:35-4:00. Can I ask what mile post this is? Thank you. Hope to meet you on the river & best of luck this season.

    Came across your video researching places to fish near Rockaway beach. Never been to Oregon I am a fly fisherman from Utah traveling there with my family for a summer vacation mid July could you possibly direct me what rivers to try? Maybe some beach fishing for whatever bites take a lot of the guesswork and wasted limited time driving to non productive places. . I know it’s fishing not catching but some guidance would really be appreciated

      shoot it is mid July now, hope you haven't already headed home from your trip. I don't know much about beach fishing honestly, and I have never fished in that area ... I know in Astoria they are starting to catch salmon on the Columbia but I'd highly recommend a guide. Hope that helps

    I moved from Oregon to Ohio about 8 years ago and just moved back to Oregon. OMG the steelhead fishing in Ohio blows Oregon away. I was shocked. Its all pretty much bank fishing through the parks. I don't know anyone that floats the river nor had I ever seen a boat except for at the mouth of Lake Erie, but it was not uncommon to catch several fish and I've been down there fishing and watched guys catch 10 to 15 fish a day every time I went down there. It was amazing.

    • @benreece1385
      @benreece1385 Рік тому +6

      That is because the Midwest does not have true steelhead, the definition of a steelhead is a fish that resides in salt or brackish water for a 2 or 4 year life span. Last time I checked, there isn’t and ocean in Michigan, and no.. the Great Lakes aren’t oceans. They are lake run rainbow trout - Great Lakes trout do not have the same genetic makeup that actual steelhead carry. They are not Anadromous, therefore they are simply a stocked, rainbow trout. Also, you should educate yourself on the reason why Pacific Northwest steelhead fishing is getting extremely difficult. If you liked catching so many fish, you should go back to Ohio and beat up on some stocked rainbows

    • @vansicklejerry
      @vansicklejerry Рік тому +2

      @@benreece1385 except that the steelhead of the great lakes originally came from the PNW. They are related. They just don't have an ocean but the species originally came from a hatchery on the West Coast. Actually I think one was in Washington and one from California I believe.

    • @benreece1385
      @benreece1385 Рік тому

      @@vansicklejerry this unfortunately is not true. None of the steelhead in the Great Lakes bare the same genetics as a true ocean run steelhead. You see all those rainbows with no fins swimming around the tributaries? That’s from sitting in a concrete pin
