    This video is succinct, but had every necessary detail. My heater is 16 years old and had not ever been descaled. Our water is naturally soft, so I figured it could wait. There was a fair bit of gunk in there. Thanks for the instructions!

    Thank you! We just purchased a home with a Noritz running on propane. It was installed in 2008, without flush valves or isolation valves.
    I don’t think it has ever been flushed in the 12 years since. It is running on well water that is very hard. It is working, and does not have any error codes. I would like to install the factory isolation valves, with flush port, and a new relief valve. They have mixed in some galvanized fittings, and I want to repipe it all. Could you list the part numbers for the isolation valve kit, with relief valve and also a link or description of the flush pump that you use? I need to perform this maintenance ASAP. Will the water heater display an error code if it gets too much scale on the tubes? Thanks

    I followed the steps in the morning, my son went to take a shower in the afternoon and the water was cold, when I looked at the tankless water heater, notice it was leaking from inside the unit. I hired a plumber to come, and he inspected it and said it was leaking from the coils. I am guessing the rust scaling must have blocked the hole(s) and once I descaled it then it exposed the holes.

      It has to be able to trick the water heater into running, most water heater have a minimum flow rate of .5 gallons per minute, so at least this amount of GPM, most medium size fountain pumps will work

    Oh crap, I just learned about this maintenance. Our heater is over 10 years old, and never did this :( It has an external filter and it still says 'Clean'. Is that possible after 10 years? Hope the gauge isnt broken. I'm getting the parts together now to flush it this week. Do you think there might be any damage to anything? :(

    • @SocalTankless
      @SocalTankless  4 роки тому +1

      The filter you have most likely has a media inside that runs out, the gauge only tells you when the filter is full which typically never happens, rule of thumb is change the cartridge once a year based on usage, using a cartridge with phosphate inside.

    What does it mean if your unit doesn't go into error code 11? Bad gas valve?

    • @SocalTankless
      @SocalTankless  Рік тому

      Is it a Noritz unit, different manufacturers have different codes. Also, your pump may not be powerful enough to get the unit to try and turn on, I would suggest running a couple hot fixtures in the house to get the unit running, while its heating simply unplug the unit, then proceed from there this will open the valves inside the unit and insure the descaler is getting to the heat exchanger.

    • @SocalTankless
      @SocalTankless  6 років тому +2

      No, when that happens your pump isn't powerful enough to activate the water heater, the work around for that is to run a large amount of hot water in the house, while the unit is running an heating disconnect power to the water heater this will lock all your internal valve in the open position, proceed to the next steps with the unit off.

    now you know why I got a conventional tank water heater. This is far from easy. but I really enjoyed the video because the dude is very sexy.

    You forgot to show us how to reset the controller in order to clear error code 11, but that doesnt surprise me. You also, forgot to solder your copper joints, you used the wrong teflon tape on the gas connection at the unit and no sealant on any of the rest of the gas piping. Yep, it was for a demo, but the reset of code 11 should have been in the video.

      actually after seeing this video I decided to remain...conventional tank. Too much work! It's easy to flush a conventional tank.

      Correct, that unit wasn't actually installed, demo only. I like to store the codes so that if a technician comes out to service your unit he can see whats happened in the past, i.e. if you say you descaled the unit but theres no 11 code he my think it wasn't done properly, the most recent codes will show first.
