- The bike is finished so it's time to hit the road and do an actual bike review. Dave dons his Shark Helmet and heads out around the great Lincolnshire roads to bring you his opinions on the big Aprilia.
On the trip he pops in to see Pete at Actiforce racing to see how the bike performs on the dyno as well.
Come along for the ride
My new favourite UA-cam channel. At last someone who knows the score, keep em coming Dave.
Thanks :)
Really enjoyable series Dave. Ugly is debatable you have refreshed a tuono that every owner could follow along with, only updating very few parts along the way. Subbed and looking forward to next project. Thank you👍
Had my 08 1000r 12 yrs now. Only mods are mivv carbon cans and 16t front sprocket. No problems ever. Absolutely love it. I'll never sell it. Nice vids. Can't wait to see more.
But a 16t front is stock
I just got a gen one tuono racing and I just love the look and all the bling and carbon. Good review keep it going thanks from nz
Great job, get more out! Thanks for sharing!
That's sort of review I was looking for. I'm considering moving Ving ahead from Fazer 1000 onto Tuono and you have pretty much answered all of my questions in one video
Great video nice bike stay safe looking forward to next one 🇬🇧👍🏻
Great end to this adventure Dave! I’m glad you’re getting old like the rest of us & being sensible 😂😂😉 bike sounds great & looks like it handles great! That’s a tribute to your professionalism & skills! Great to hear you’re going to keep it!👍👌
The view of a professional. By your standards, my 797 is crap at everything. I like it. Perhaps it's fellowship and I'm crap at everything too. I am rebuilding an SP1 and I find your series extremely helpful. Thanks👍😊
Great stuff, loving the channel
Much appreciated!
Love the gen1 990 rotax engines. Super reliable, punchy and bags of character.
Had two RSVRs and one RSV mille. rSVR worth the extra for the Ohlins and lighter forged OZ wheels. My Eddy Rep made over 128bhp rear wheel. Standard rsv and rsvr’s made 110 to 115rwbhp, but that was plenty enough.
Magic blend of useable power and torque. Things to watch include slave clutch cylinder leaks (Oberon replacements are good), weak starter solenoids, on the gen 2 the stator is a weak point and early gen2’s were notorious for these frying themselves. Plastic tanks can also swell with E10 especially.
Rsvr mille or Tuono and gen2 RSV Factory and Tuono Factory are probably the most under rated, best fun, grin inducing characterful bikes ever made.
Everyone should own one once. After 12 years riding them I sold out for a bmw R1200RS because it was more comfy for my aging bones! Really miss my last beast of an RSVR though.
I had a gen 3 tuono v2, great bike, especially after I fixed all the bits you mentioned
Great few vids, subscribed!
Awesome, thank you!
Nice review of the best streetbike ever 👍😎 although I prefer the Gen 1 because it's even more "ugly". Owned one for 12 years and still would, hadn't I crashed it in the spectacular fashion that I did. 🤗
To improve on the lumpiness I changed the gearing to 15/43 IIRC.
For some reason it also improves mileage somewhat, but I guess that is because you get to change second gear sooner and more often.
Enjoy this awesome bike.
Good Review Dave, nice attention to detail. Other reviewers could learn something
Thanks 👍
@10:10 You've very succinctly summed up my current circumstances. I LOVE Sportsbikes but for the past 5 years I've been riding a Hypermotard and a 1290 Superduke, they're just better roadbikes......aaaaannd maybe I'm just getting old. Top review Dave.
Loving the tie wrap, lol.
this review is how it's suppose to be done.. !!
especially because you're not rambling on about silly details like them "journalists" that review modern sportsbikes, making it look that you can feel 1-2 HP difference on a backroad... :-)
and yeah... real bikes shouldn't be ridden in town.. mine sounds and behaves like a tractor also going 20 mph.. (MTS 950s)..
Keep up the nice job Dave.. curious about what's next... cheers!
Thanks for the positive comments. Next project might well be Japanese
Yeah vtwins hate doing 20mph my sv1000 bloody hates it so I'm guessing my tuono will be similar shame my town is full of them 🙄
Hi! Great review!
There's a lot of information about how the Aprilias are 'overgeared' from the factory to meet some acoustic standards and a great mod is to use 15t up front and 42t rear sprockets. This makes the bike much smoother and it can still do 150mph on the 6th gear that you can finally actually use for once.
I may need to do that…mine is too choppy down low..brutal torque.
std on mine was 17/42, so 16/44 was the most common mod for better acceleration and easier first gear town work.
Hi Dave from Texas!!
I owned a 2008 tuono R too... i upgraded my front suspension to matris F12R complete catridge set in which later i found was not necessary.. And as for the rear upgraded it matris M46K which was great as the original sachs rear was s bit too soft and looks worn out.
Best review I've found of the tuono I've just bought a 06 with 5k on its had a couple of nice upgraded parts like the ohlins shock and they've bought every carbon accessory aprilia had in the brochure 🤣
Glad it helped
I'm really thinking hard about a turno 1000 r ... yes indeedy
Thoroughly enjoyed the whole series. Fair play. What's next?
Something japanese I think. Not actually sure yet!
Excellent review. Crystal clear audio, no heavy British accent, absolutely awesome.
Cracking series! I own an rsv1000rr factory if fancied using it in a video? Keep it up :)
Started watching this video and thought the place looked familiar, my home town Lincoln
Great series. As an ex owner would love your opinion on v4. Although I loved the v4, I can say in hindsight, enjoyed the gen 2 more.
I've raced an RSV4 and have a love hate relationship with the v4 motor. Great engine, when it's working! I do fancy a v4 to try out
Was it valve train issues.. I heard a few horror stories so sold my Tuono v4
Great bike and video. How about an old CBR900 Fireblade project next?
I actually did one of those a couple of years ago before i started youtubing. But I think the next project will be japanese!
How has ur maintenance been, looking to get into a gen 2 Aprilia but for now I have a "35kw" bike with about 80hp. But I just love the looks of it and the grumpy V2 is just awesome.
But the Italian quality is holding me back a bit.
It's been very good.
I've uprated the alternator (see a later vid) as a safety measure and other than a slightly weeping oil pressure switch it's been damned fine.
They aren't as fragile as ducati's of similar age!!
Is the engine braking & fuel cut strong or smooth like an older 2005 Kawasaki? Does it have ride by wire?
No fly by wire, still old skool cable throttle. Engine braking is fairly strong, like a big v twin should be
Hi! Great Video! What fuel consumption do you get with this bike? thanks!
Very much depends how I ride. Usually mid 30's mpg
@@obsession_engineering thanks! Been thinking about buying one- had the Gen 1 but it had horrible fuel efficiency (25 mpg or so).
As I’d want to use it as a daily I couldn’t live with a horrible fuel economy like that once more…maybe a Powercommander tune can even improve the efficiency?
Mmmmm, nice
So when is it up for sale?
Depends what I find next, but enjoying it at the moment
Is it good for 6.4 tall rider?
I'm 6'1 and it's pretty comfy for me so should suit you well
She's a bit ugly but won't kill your wrists after 30 miles like that beautiful 748.
How does it compare to mt09 overall? The tuono is much cheaper and has more power on paper.
I've not spent much time on the mt09, it's newer and lighter so a little easier to ride and the engine is very responsive. A good bike, but the tuono has a bit more character
@@obsession_engineering Yeah I'd say both are great nakeds :)
Tail peice says "Tuono r", but the brakes say otherwise.
Standard fitment calipers over here
@@obsession_engineering 🏍👍
This bike is by no means ugly.
