One of the Dragon Slayer I videos of all-time | Unguided #6
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 сер 2024
- this one was painful... Please like and comment if you enjoyed as it helps the algorithm :) it's much appreciated. Thank you!
Welcome back to Unguided, where I'm trying to complete every quest in old school runescape without using a guide, wiki or any plugins. I'll only be using my limited knowledge and in-game learnings. Full rules below.
RULES
- No use of OSRS wiki (or any equivalent) for anything - this includes looking up item spawns, quest guides, anything
- No use of any other quest helper sites
- No use of quest helper plugin
CAVEATS
- I love OSRS UA-cam, I might inadvertently learn something I don't know by watching my favourite content creators, but I'm not going to stop watching them so that's just a risk I'm willing to take + it's unlikely going to be relevant for me
- I'm going to try and avoid any spoiler comments. If you can, please try not to help me if there's an episode where I'm stuck on something. I appreciate the sentiment but telling me an item spawn or quest step could spoil the fun :)

collecting planks from the graveyard was my main money maker back in the day
dont forget the steel platelegs spawn :D Those were the times
i found out about the crossbows which sell for almost 1k each
Spoiler!!!
@@TheSupermanton That's what happens when you read the comments about the video you are watching before watching the video ;)
"Ten thousand coins? Fuck that." This how you know you are doing the quest right. You wouldn't get that reaction following a guide. Keep it up.
Haha thanks!
I had that exact same reaction 16 years ago when doing it as a nooblet
You killing zombies to try to get planks makes me wonder if you had some long-buried, 99% forgotten memory of the actual plank spawn - it's surrounded by zombies!
It's funny how he said "zombie movies... well really just call of duty" when CoD zombies got the whole plank thing from Night of the Living Dead, the movie that Nacht der Untoten is based on.
Some members zombies drop planks, like in tarn's lair.
That plank spawn in the wilderness graveyard is the only way of obtaining a plank in f2p. no monster drops it. there is no other spawn. well found
I decided to look it up just in case there was another source other than wildy. There are actually two plank spawns east of the Chaos Temple near the salamander hunter area. But you can also get them from the lockboxes in the Camdozaal vault, but that would just be another even more frustrating grind without knowing about it beforehand.
What's funny is planks spawn on crandor, but you can't really get there till you already fixed the boat lol
I honestly thought searching Port Sarim for some planks was a great idea.
Ofc, I knew it wouldn't work, but it would make sense. Honestly, they should either add some plank spawns there, or let f2p use the sawmill (only for normal planks). It's kind of unfair imo that so many new players get hard stuck on this part of the quest, by no fault of their own.
I’m here from Josh isn’t gaming’s castle wars video and damn! Your series is great so far. I’ve kind of been binging since this morning
Welcome and thanks for the kind words! Really glad you’re enjoying the series
All of the monsters in the Maze have 100% drop rate for the key, you just have to kill the right one. Also it's so funny seeing ironman who doesn't always walk around with their full cash stack
i think the bookcases say which one it is. i remember it saying the ghost died by drowning and had a fremenik cape.
the skeleton as well. a rounded shield like the fremmys
I spent like 50 minutes killing ghosts waiting for the key.
Ultimate Ironman carry their full cash stack because they can't bank. Regular iron can bank so no reason to carry it.
@@ChukMeier eh, no reason to bank cash stack while questing.. You'll need it all the time, and there's no real benefits to only bring partial amount of it
@@DelPlaysya i carry my cash everywhere on my hcim lol, you always need it for something
19:21 Using cabbage on Melzar was definitely the highlight of the video. 🤣
😂 playing without guides makes you do weird things
Clearly he has some vague memories, but the details are all blurred up. Malzar spawning cabbages left a trail there, but not exactly the correct one. Same with the planks and zombie association.
@@poro3246 He also read the lore hidden in the wardrobes and such, which could have hinted at Melzar's obsession with cabbages.
ALL HAIL BRASSICA PRIME!
the fact that there actually is an easy safespot makes it kind of funny. very impressive
Your search for the plank reminded me when I was ten and would run into the wildy to grab them there and how terrified I was being there even though I had nothing on me
It was painful watching you get back to Elvarg without the easy wall shortcut through the lesser demons haha.
i felt it too
Dude, I just found you through your shorts, and holy cow this is quickly becoming one of my favorite RS series ever, up there with Swampletics, GG, Jeporite, and ChunkYanille! The deep dives on the lore thru the eyes of someone who doesn't use the wiki (which is UNFATHOMABLE to me, i literally have a search engine keyword for it!) is seriously sunch a fantastic idea and seeing you reason hru the quests makes me fall in love with the game's lore even more.
Keep it up!!
Wow thank you, that’s some serious praise! I’m glad you’re enjoying the series, thanks for the comment
Watching you walk up to the gates of Taverly to begin your membership journey really filled me with emotion hahaha. As an eternally-f2p kid, I remember always coming back to that spot and gazing at it in wonder
this has to be my absolute favourite osrs series out there . absoutely well done and thanks for re-kindling how I felt as a kid playing this game without a membership. that final speech before walking through the gates of taverley was so spot on
Thank you for the incredibly kind words. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the series!
OMG love the plank treasure hunt. This series shines at noobing around so nostalgic just doing quests like this. Also it'd be so nice if we'd get to see how you noobed around at 18:43 learning all that lore, I honestly don't know it and am thinking of also watching a series of full immersion where the plot exposure is the goal of the game... Definitely staying for this series too haha
Yeah I wish I actually put that in too. I have a short about Melzar’s maze on my channel which goes into more detail about the lore if you want to check that out though! It’s called ‘the saddest place in runescape’
Part of what makes this series interesting is how our knowledge differs from yours. I knew where the plank spawned in the wilderness, but I got weirdly confused by the “string of a worm” riddle. It’s neat how people get stuck on different stuff.
I cheered out loud at the end of the video for you, the feeling of finally getting my parents to let me bill Jagex to our phone service for membership rushed over my when you mentioned walking through the Taverly gates. I think I’m gonna pick the game back up after today. Thank you for the inspiration!
THE WILDERNESS WALK GOT ME HYPE
This series is awesome, it reminds me of when I was a dumb young cute noob. Started from the beginning episode today and already binged to episode 8 here. Love the series, hope it continues and gains more traction!
Thanks for the support! Glad you’re enjoying
Damn this series has me hooked, I always wished I could do this type of account, but sadly I do not have the time, so it is a pleasure to watch you play and experience the game and the quests in a very unique and authentic way! The quests definitely seem even more epic this way! Also I keep commenting on videos for the algorithm in addition to my genuine reactions
I’m so glad you’re enjoying it, and I massively appreciate the support by commenting to help with the algorithm. Thanks so much!
I love that for something so simple as a plank it made you scour the entire available map including the wilderness. This is how Runescape is supposed to be played.
My new favourite series, the only one who makes me feel like a kid exploring RuneScape again. Congratulations and good luck in members!
Thank you, that means a lot!
i love how authentic and organic this series is
Woah. Probably the best thing that this series got is this mental gymnastics of trying to logic out the location of items. I can feel inside doing the same things. Thought processes . Love this. Members world here we go lol
This episode was hilarious just from how relatable all the little mishaps are. From forgetting the maze door key to the failed attempts at killing him and then the randomness of your doorbell scaring you mid fight. Love this series and can't wait to binge it all.
I just discovered this series and what a joy it is so far. Reminds me when I was a kid and my first go at Dragon Slayer, it was a several day endeavour as well. I didn't even know helpsites existed, owing to the fact that I barely grasped basic english at that time.
You've hit the nostalgia goldmine.
I am loving this content. I was going to play like this before getting back into osrs but ended up being too lazy. You are doing really well with editing. Also I would have loved to hear the cool lore about Melvar's descent into madness, I think others are enjoying this reading-focused approach to the game so adding that content could be fun. Keep it up, thanks for your effort :)
Thank you! I really appreciate the support. Yeah I’m actually gutted I didn’t lean into that more in this episode as it’s some of my favourite lore so far. I made a short on it though that explains it all if you want to check that out!
Getting proper nostalgic vibes here. Excellent series.
16:17
If I recall correctly, yes. That's the only way to get planks in f2p, besides either buying them from another player or getting them as a loot drop in the Camdozaal maze.
I wish you had some allowance to get information like this, like being allowed to ask a random passerby a small, specific question. Just to avoid long grinds like "Walking the entire surface of the f2p area".
You're still getting the info in an authentic way, as far as I'm concerned.
Also, since you've completed the quest, it's not a spoiler:
18:58
In Melzar's Maze, there's only 1 npc in each room that drops the key. You might've killed the same one over and over.
Lastly, the reason killing Elvarg with magic was so much more brutal was because she's quite tanky against magic, on account of having a solid magic level of her own. Magic level determines defense vs magic, not defense level (except for players, where it's a mix of magic and def levels).
Thanks man! I appreciate not wanting me to grind as much but honestly finding it quite fun atm. I think there might be room for me to ask in game as a very last resort if I’ve been stuck on something and tried everything in my capacity to get it on my own.
I remember young me feeling like such a genius when I needed planks and thinking "I remember seeing those!" because I had picked them up as an item I had never seen before while wandering around exploring the wilderness
Very good work getting this far. I stepped into your series much further along. It's rewarding to watch your journey from the start : ) Keep the series going!
New sub! As an advocate for lore, immersion, and not spacebarring dialogue, this is such a great series idea. Keep it up!
Been binging these since I stumbled on your most recent vids in my suggested. What a brilliant concept and you're executing them amazingly! Commenting for the algorithms :D
Thanks so much! Appreciate it :)
The gate to Taverley was also my first entry to a members only zone. My goal was all non members quests completed and the last quest I finished was Dragon Slayer.
They did rework Elvarg and while I believe a flinch spot exists still, I much preferred watching your approach. You're correct, while its a much harder fight, its way more satisfying and befitting for slaying Elvarg, the toughest green dragon to ever walk the Scapes.
Such a unique account perspective, can't get this content twice! Loving the series, binging it right now.
Thank you!
I love this series!! Had the same exact idea for ages but I dont have the means or time to make it, so I am super pumped to be able to follow you along the journey and endure the struggles for me! The video quality, sounds and edits are exceptional too, so excited to continue watching this!
Down in the crandor cave there was a button that unlocks a shortcut through karamja to the island which now will only be useful for cluescrolls. Not certain if it will be unlocked automatically post quest or if you have to ship to the island once more.
Ye that auto unlocks I think as I was able to go back after when I went to get some of the panning shots for this video, and I don’t remember pressing a button
@@AlienFoodage Thought as much since the guy claims the lady lumbridge is his ship again post quest.
amazing series, the true binge begins now and I'm looking forward to every minute
This series is very good! You have nice editing amd nice to hear your thought process and logic to stuff.
Thank you! Glad you enjoy :)
Absolutely massive congratulations bro
This series has really struck me as an authentic runescape experience.
I feel like being a confused kid trying to solve puzzles and trading advice on the schoolyard was the peak runescape experience.
Thanks for bringing that back for me in a small way.
So glad you enjoyed. Thanks for the support and the kind words
I just discovered this series and started binge watching it! I'm a longtime OSRS player and when you got to the plank part it even made me think "Huh, how am I going to get that?"! Haha, love the vids man!
Thank you!
@@AlienFoodage I have continued watching the series since I commented. 10/10 You are wonderful sir, please continue the good work.
Just randomly found this series and its great so far, totally binging this
Incredible series. This is so refreshing in a very special way, this series is my new addiction I think.
This is the single most underrated OSRS series. See you at 100k subs my man, this is phenomenal :)
Huge fan of this. Binging all the episodes. Keep it up!
Thank you!
That was such an excellent video "ending"to the intro of the series. I'm binging them all right now
The wilderness scrape is so funny lol
Just started binging your series. As a someone who is a completionist in video games and playing ironman myself, I love your idea for a series!
In my ironman, I got planks from the lockboxes in the Ruins of Camdozaal Maze, took a couple tries, but it gives good loot for other things too in f2p.
Thank you for this awesome playlist! This type of content helps drive me into getting a quest cape :)
This has been great so far! Thanks for making this series!
Not me screaming "wildy! Wildy! Wildy!"
This is great, makes me think of all the stuff 10 year old me did since I didn’t know much about wikis or the game in general. I think I trained attack to 60 on Al Kharid guards and spent hours collecting feathers for money after getting scammed because I didn’t know any better, and still managed to have a lot of fun doing so
Josh Isn't Gaming sent me this way when I was binging Chunk Yanille. Now I'm binging Unguided. Quality content man! I could just listen to you narrate things all day.
Really enjoying this series, can't wait to see the rest. :)
The Ruins of Camdozaal unlocked form below Ice mountain also has planks
Man, watching this series, seeing you running around varrock and lumbridge struggling to make money and figure out quests while wearing your random event rewards and rainbow boots was such a nostalgia trip.
Still really enjoying the vids! you are spinning a good story! Take care my dude
Hey thank you man, I’m really appreciating your support on each of my videos. I hope you enjoy the series!
Binge watching the series! Editing is so good too!
Between this and flips "playing osrs for the first time" series, I feel like a school kid playing again on the old library computers hahaha
This is the first vid of the series I've seen and I'm hooked.
The editing, the cinematic shots, and walking us through your problem solving logic - top quality stuff!
I think Jagex needs to watch the whole plank hunt part lol. I find it funny you were half-right about the zombies cuz you did find them near them
Thanks a lot, I appreciate it!
Easy to say, by far my fost favorite OSRS content - period! Keep up the work you giga chad.
One of these episodes you said you were new to video editing, and I've gotta say man. You're a bloody natural.
Excellent series.
Thank you man!
Watching you do Dragon Slayer was hard. Sense I've done it so many times, and know it by heart. But I'm realy glad you got there in the end. :D And good work! I also know the correct price of the rune pl8. And...oof. XD
Ahh, I see you are applying the *((Roomba technique))* and *((state of confusion))* properly already! Good job. ;)
that outro speech got me in tears bro =') you got a way with words lmaoo
besides the wildy spawn, and the spawns you gain access to post dragonslayer the only other way of getting planks is in the camdozaaal vault
As someone who also did all f2p quest before getting members the villainous grinch smile I had when I heard you say you would go to the lumbermill to get planks. Glad to see I wasn't the only one flabbergasted and didn't know where to get planks.
The experience of walking through the taverly gate for the first time is unmatched. I never did convince my parents it was safe to use a credit card on the internet. I just took my lunch money and didn't buy lunch at school until I had enough to buy a prepaid card.
I love this series, super impressed on thought pattern
Thank you! Glad you’re enjoying it
Definatly hooked on this series, loving it so far, also, they did change elvarg, multiple times i believe, 2006/07 and then the version we currently have in around 2010 where you actually remove the head in the cut scene, this just altered the mechanics and safe spot area behind the bones (before they added elvards ranged attack anyways). very cool video though :D
Ah I thought so! Thanks for watching :)
Every good runescape series is based on doing things with limitations. In almost all cases those limitations are artificial - limit yourself to less than the game has to offer. But somehow this is so organic, you are "limiting" yourself to exactly what the game has to offer, and in doing so playing the actual game. Such a great concept.
Loving the series!
The speech at the end hit harder than elvarg on attempt 1, keep crackin' on bruv we love it ❤️
At this point(just catching up to the series), if you did this back in 2007, you would have been a top-tier video maker. This is exactly how it felt to me playing back then. Where the only online video knowledge was compilations of the gameplay, or funny skits. Everything else was text, was lucky if you had images with it.
Well done dude this is awesome can't wait for the end result
Thank you! Glad you’re enjoying :)
16:12 yup. Sure as shit is! Genuinely imagine playimg this back in the day and not knowing this. Holy cow this series is dope.
Best ep so far, looking forward to other complex or cryptic quests
I reflexively focus on planks found in the world specifically because I remember trying to do this quest in 2004 and having no idea were to get a plank.
Now that you've already found it, there's actually a plank spawn on Entrana near the Law altar lol
Entrana is membs
When I was a kid I collected those planks as a moneymaker for a little bit.
It wasn't a good moneymaker but I didn't know better
I appreciate learning the lore of the quest too
The 10k reminded me of a friend as a kid, who owed someone 50$, so he saved up for 50$ and then bought some online currency with it as he forgot why he was saving up that money. When I told him, you could see the engine in his brain slowly rebooting.
Heya Alien Food, I'm not sure if you're still reading comments on this vid but just wanted to point out there's a second plank spawn in the wilderness. You actually passed it at 15:11, in the area where you right clicked on that tile. :)
This is the best RuneScape series I have ever seen in my entire life!!!!! This!!!this is how RuneScape should be played, and I also feel if you ever do become stuck, you should be able to ask random people for advice. It’s not a “guide” but knowledge of other players that play the game. Show people that this game has a community that is willing to help others who may not know
Thank you! I really appreciate the kind words and definitely will take that route if I do get really really stuck
Commenting for the algorithm, keep up the great work!!
Thank you!
my fav osrs series on yt
You can still safe spot Elvarg - it's just not either of the spots you tried XD but I'm really glad you did it this way, definitely more satisfying.
Damn I had no idea! Same tbh, much more rewarding in the end
This is exactly how I'd play without the wiki. Loving the series!
The hardship of questing without a guide is what makes runescape fun in my opinion, its just that today we are spoon fed with information that diminishes the sense of accomplissement !
Great work 👍👏
Great job!!
you can open a door just past elvarg to unlock it and give you access to the volcano in karamja for a shortcut instead of repairing the boat over and over
amazing video
W series Ngl I’m addicted
Thank you bro
rest in peace cabin boy 😢
sick vid brother
thank you man, much appreciated
Haven’t started the video yet but what a title 🤣
i'm not sure why but my brain went to zombies too
Keep it up!
Wait, the ship for Dragonslayer was only 2k? I remember breaking my bank to get that ship when I first did the quest, I was convinced it was 20k minimum!
Another f2p way to get planks is the chests inside the vault in the ruins of camdozaal. Otherwise it's spawns in the graveayrd and by the larran's small chest in the wilderness.
Love these views man the nostalgic feeling watching this was amazing. Thank you
I was waiting for elvarg to fuck him up, she did not fail to deliver lol
Taverley Gate was the absolute best place to wrap up f2p. I wonder about that gate daily as a kid before i got membership and it was the first place i went on p2p world.
