Turbo Diesel Go-Kart W/CVT Top Speed

- I give the Turbo Diesel Go-Kart another shot at a high-speed run but this time I mounted a torque converter setup to the 10 horsepower Kohler diesel engine.
the torque was out of this world it was so much fun to drive, the top speed was decent but I know for sure if I tweak it I can do better, not sure if I'm going to do another episode on this one or not, if I do I'm going to keep it very simple or I just make a larger drive gear to see what the maximum is with this engine.

Make a 20T drive gear! The Diesel with the CVT would easily be able to pull that tall gearing and there would be a lot more room for the CVT to do its thing and get you to a higher top speed.
Yeah, the cvt is "topping out" too quickly. I bet a good gear setup will get 45+ out of it. I definately want to see updates with a few gear changes!

The turbine can run on diesel, right? Why not mount both engines and get a top speed.

That drive clutch was so close to your shirt.
When we were kids our go cart has a 78 tooth sprocket on the bottom and 14 tooth on duel clutch system and a 6 hp snow blower engine & were able to hit 45 to 50 mph. We used the mail truck as our guide as the driver wanted to see how fast we could make it go side by side with his truck 50 was the fastest. Lol. We also had big tires on it as well.
Usually single cylinders don’t like turbo chargers, but that thing just goes! 🤩
works better with an air tank to hold boost between turbo and intake
Turbochargers Single cylinder needs big plenum at least twice the engine volume
@@janilindroos3688 Diesel doesn't care how big or small the intake is for higher than atmospheric pressures in small cylinder configurations. It runs on compression ignition. Much more of the exhaust energy is converted into rotational energy in a turbocharger turbine than any gasoline engine will ever care to do. You only have to size the turbine housing and wheel properly for the amount of fuel heat you're going to be pumping into the cylinder.
In my place. Single cylinder N.A 700-1100cc generator. Mods with turbo ex diesel truck and reduce fuel consumption arround 30%. And feel lots of power arround 1500-2200rpm.

Use your water jet table to make a sprocket! The turbo diesel has plenty of torque to pull tall gearing up to speed

Agreed with fueling, I feel like with that added air, he can get some decent boost with some extra fuel, I don’t think he’s pumping enough fuel in to keep up with the pressure that turbo could produce

Thank you 😊, man I really appreciate that deeply like honestly, I've been working probing away with this Channel on UA-cam for over 4 years, and it brought me right back to my original idea which is just due projects that I would normally do without filming them, but film them, and use my movie making experience in the mix... As well as taking into account my very short attention span... I'm so glad to see that you like it, I have sacrificed my health, my finances, and my sanity all while not knowing 100% sure if it was going to work... But now starting this year I'm just trying to shoot videos and do some cool projects.

It seems like the governor in the variable pulleys, isn't really matched to peak engine torque. The engine seems to be operating too low to allow the turbo to reach full boost.
Still cool though.
Here's an idea; tune this setup to max efficiency, then add a manual clutch, or a one-way bearing on the axle drive chain, then add the jet engine.
This way, you can have the best of both!😉

Diesels are super reliable, especially old style mechanically pumped ones like this one, very unlike the regular gas powered garden equipment you have to fight EVERY season.
A couple of years ago i got an old diesel generator that had been sitting for 6 years, without being started, and even though the diesel in the tank smelled really bad, nothing like diesel, it started right up at the second pull.
That is just something you only see with diesels.
This engine was a Yanmar L40AE - a tiny diesel.

You can adjust the spring tension on the TC so it goes onto a higher gear faster or slower. There’s 3 different holes in it from the factory and you can add more holes for testing. Less tension on the drum let’s it go into a higher gear faster and more tension makes it stay in the lower gear longer.
Strap jet on it in addition to the diesel. Use diesel for low end, jet for high end. Twin engine!

Built a yerfdog with a diesel yanmarL70w and a comet tav2 30 series cvt. When taking off under heavy load the belt will "judder" and vibrate up and down violently while at very low speeds and higher speeds its fine. Have you run into any issues like this?

What size battery are you running with that setup? I have that same engine sitting in my shed right now that I got off of a generator that was destroyed from falling off the back of a truck. Engine is still in great shape, turns over and runs great. I'm just waiting for the right time to put it in a project!

Nice job it would be interesting to find out how big a sprocket you could go to on that thing… you have the reduction in the torque converter so could it run the same size as the axel sprocket…..
Gear it up and add a water/ methanol Injection. Makes a BIG difference to a turbo Diesel. Keeps them Cool and adds a significant amount of power. Had a lot of fun with it on my 4WD.
Shirt tail that close to the engine shaft really increases the pucker factor...
