I've seen PK twice; first at Creation 80 festival, where he knocked me out with his looped version of Amazing Grace. I saw him 15 years later in a large church hall where he was just by himself. During one of his songs, a little 3 year old girl got loose from her mom and ran towards the stage where there was a ramp that led to the front. Phil stopped mid-song, got down on one knee and welcomed her into his arms. He spent 5-6 minutes chatting with her and letting her play his guitar, and then sent her back to him mom, who was mortified. He did not go back to the song he was playing before, but switched over to his song "LIttle Ones", and intro'd the song by saying this beautiful child was an example of God's creation. THAT's what I think of when I listen to Phil play. The dude is genuine.
We saw him about 10 years ago in a small store front church in Hot Springs, Arkansas. After the show almost everyone from the crowd was standing around chatting among themselves when I noticed Phil had some out into the audience area and was just standing there. My wife and I went over and he chatted with us for about 10 minutes. You are so right. Very humble, genuine guy. And a phenomenal guitarist. And I was also at Creation 80.
I heard (from the friend of a friend of mine) of an interview with Jimi Hendrix when asked what's it like being the greatest guitarists in the world..... He replied go ask Phil keaggy....? 🤔
Phil's a totally bonafide axe legend. Look at the ease with which he tunes down without fancy tuners and cacks on to rock out some awesome playing and singing like it's all in a days work. Genius.
just watching Phil tune his axe is treat! I saw once in the 70's with his band and once solo with his acoustic and both times he was just nuts! I am convinced any thing that comes into his brain to play can come out of his fingers! He is just a gift from our Creator God!
I was there. He blew me away. Was a long time fan. I was camping in the area and notice a local poster advertising the concert. I couldn't believe it! Wasted no time getting over to the high school.
Thank God Phil chose to share his talent in a way that lifts up the King of Glory instead of chasing the money! I am grateful for his faith and the sharing of it. Been following his music around since 1973.
Playing his Olson Guitar, he was traveling around the county in 91 and 92 giving solo acoustic performances just like this one. Accompanyied by his Jamman looper he would lay tracks down and jam over his own tracks all live. The Jamman had a feature that goes into conitnuous record mode but fades out after a small amount of time. That's how he was actual able to change the tracks so slighty, notice when he's in loop mode he must remain modal to that key. Not a problem for Phil.
Phil is astonishing on acoustic in every way. For me his chord voicings are so rich and melodic, and the way he uses harmonics is organic with what he’s playing, not ornamental. This is awesome footage. Thanks ❤️
I've just discover to Phil and I still can't close my mouth and eyes... He's an incredible guitar virtuose and many more... Thank you internet, thank you youtube for bring us all these great musicians.
I first saw Glass Harp perform at the Richmond Coliseum in Virginia in the fall of '71. Glass Harp was the warm up band for Alice Cooper. What a great performance by Phil Keaggy!
Met Phil back in the Love Inn days..., such a consummate gentleman and the anointing of the Lord on Phil's talents is beyond compare. In this the era of shallow grip on Life in Jesus..., Phil reminds us with his body of work that Jesus is the CENTER and can be trusted for one's whole life. Thank you Phil...., thank you Jesus for such a talent given to bless and honor your Name through generations.
I was at a PK concert in California and he was asking for requests and knowing that he liked the Beatles as I did, I shouted out “Hard Days Night,” and he just played the opening chord. That was his response to my request. That’s all that was needed. Haha.
I did a live on-air phone interview with him on KCFO FM Tulsa Ok. and I told him how much he sounded like Sir Paul McCartney, I thought he sounds a lot like him, he laughed and sort of agreed he's heard that many times before.. Great Musician!! from Glass Harp. Brother Johns ...
Saw cheri keaggy with phil last night at bluf creek church in indiana.. She was not exploiting anything! She wore blue jeans, sang some great songs and tld some great stories. I,ve been following Phil sence the Glass harp days in Kent Ohio.. Last night was the best show I have ever see him do.
From what I hear, I think it was the digital delay.. It didn't seem anything was "locked in", but rather just faded out as new layers were added. The stereo feed is really cool on this one! It is ALWAYS a fun night when Phil is having a good time with the audience.. He is so personable and it becomes a group of friends sitting in a living room (a big one) having an intimate time..
I first saw Phil Keaggy play with Sweet Comfort Band at the Shrine Auditorium in San Bernardino California in 1976. Then every chance I got through college and into adulthood, I have watched him play in different places. Class act, world class guitarist and a man who points to the truth of Christ unashamedly. Rock on Phil. I use to be able to duplicate some your music while back in college with my friend I played with, at least the strumming parts, but your leads just blow me away and I am still amazed even though I am not sitting in the front row at Harvest Church in Riverside California watching you play. Blessings to you.
Thanks for this. Have always wanted to hear PK do an acoustic version. Have seen him 57 times in concert and have never heard an acoustic version of time. Made my day.
Wow - how rare for this song! Thank you for posting. Have always loved this mans music. I saw him perform alone acoustically at Anaheim Convention Center many moons ago and it was really moving- he was stellar then also!
Just found out about this talent from an advertisement from Elixir strings, which are fantastic by the way - all I use on acoustic and electric guitars I own. A great addition to the world of guitar knowledge and inspiration. Vocals fit with his playing well.
Time is one of my all time favs of Phil and I have been a fan since 1976. Everything that's been said of him is true and consistent of Phil's life. Since I also play guitar (but sure not as good as Phil), he is my main guitar 'god'. Otherwise, Jesus is my real God to be sure. I love listening to Phil and have a nice collection of his music. It never tires me out. I pray that God continues to bless our brother in all he does,
I saw Phil Keaggy back in the early 90s in a very intimate setting and as He was starting a song he was tooling around and my friend thought he was lost and started singing out some of the words and just like in the beginning of this clip Phil doesn’t seem to have a lot of patients but I guess when you’re a great guitar player singer songwriter maybe you don’t need it oh wait no I’m wrong … Christian’s are supposed to be extra patient 😇 Phil keep seeking Jesus but please be kind ! (Because I know for myself I need a lot more patience praise God HE has promised to the Spirit and give us that patient that we need). ♥️♥️♥️
Heard Phil do 'Tim' acoustic at a show about this time also at John Brown University here in NW Arkansas. He was suffering from a cold or something, but did a great show that night. He attempted to the 'Time' riff in cut time, then backed off and gave it the swing feel he plays here. It was amazing; I've wondered if he realized how good he was that night... I have hoped for an acoustic version to show up here for a long time. Thanks for posting this.
I haven't heard him since I was a kid. He should have been in Guitar Player Magazine at some point. No doubt he could play circles around a lot of the guitar heroes of the time.
I am really impressed with this topic! You all have shown great respect for each others opinions here even tho there are disagreements. It is really hard to share the emotion that one feels when they accept Christ and for someone who doesn't know, it DOES sound crazy. At any rate Zombie, you now have several people praying for you, like it or not!! LOL. At least it is out of caring! I'm glad you enjoy this clip! This was before Phil went into the really nice loopers. You are all great! Thanks!
Some enjoy his acoustic work more than the electric. He's playing his Olson guitar which just sounds great, and helped Olson guitars get onto the map. James Taylor played Olson guitars too. Playing solo like this is not done by a lot of guitarists, but he has no problem filling in gaps. I think he really enjoyed doing acoustic concerts as they were always so much fun. The looping machines of the day only had about 8 seconds max, so he would record short phases and allow them to fade out, constantly overdubbing as he played. Today looping machines record 4 to 10 minutes...
There is a big difference when a person exhibits his skill to please the crowd and when an annointed person performs to glorify God. This is that type of music. The guy is much younger here ofcourse. Love him and his style of music

That story put tears in my eyes, happy tears.
Wow, what a character!

The Awesme Man .....Keaggy.
The thing that makes this guy one of the all time greats is his ability to be so creative in any situation. Love the Keaggymeister.
Genius at work - a true artist
I want to publicly say I think Phil is the best ever hands down
I heard (from the friend of a friend of mine) of an interview with Jimi Hendrix
when asked what's it like being the greatest guitarists in the world..... He replied go ask Phil keaggy....? 🤔
My favorite God-loving misfit
Never happened, folklore.
@@dp-io4il That's a myth.
No one even close!

He's one of the best.

He had impressive stage presence with glassharp. Now it's more likeX10 PURE GENIUS ‼️
I was there. He blew me away. Was a long time fan. I was camping in the area and notice a local poster advertising the concert. I couldn't believe it! Wasted no time getting over to the high school.
Easily the best acoustic playing I've ever seen. His bag of tricks was mind boggling.
Thank God Phil chose to share his talent in a way that lifts up the King of Glory instead of chasing the money! I am grateful for his faith and the sharing of it. Been following his music around since 1973.
amen! such a talented musician god bless
You're ahead of me! I first heard Phil Keaggy in early '77. The song was "Disappointment". He's been my favorite guitarist ever since.
Wow! Phil is always great but he was obviously on fire in that performance. It’s got to be one of his best ever!
Playing his Olson Guitar, he was traveling around the county in 91 and 92 giving solo acoustic performances just like this one. Absolutely the cream of the crop!
I come back to this recording over and over again. Thank you so much, @mulemusic!
Ridiculously talented, praise God!
I remember being at this concert. I loved listening to Phil Keaggy and saw him whenever I could.
That was insane. He is always amazing.
I thought I'd seen it all from PK... This is ridiculously the best acoustic recording of ANY artist I've ever seen....WOW!
Totally agree with you. Phil probably forgets more stuff than most guitarists will ever know. Plus you can tell he is just having fun.
I was thinking the same thing when I saw him just the other day at the Barrow in Franklin, PA.
Check out the late Michael Hedges
Phil loves to have fun with "Time". Do a search and I am sure that there are probably 100 videos of him playing around with this song.
@@normanperkel139 I have always enjoyed Hedges. Wasnt aware that he had passed.
This is true virtuosity
You are so right. This video would be a highlight in anyone's collection. Amazing man!!
The unmistakable talent that is Phil Keaggy God gave him an incredible gift!
Amazing, unbelievable performance.
Phil is astonishing on acoustic in every way. For me his chord voicings are so rich and melodic, and the way he uses harmonics is organic with what he’s playing, not ornamental. This is awesome footage. Thanks ❤️
Arguably the best guitar player in the world.
All around, Yes.
He is.
For sure
No argument at all. He's been the best for over 45 years.
I've just discover to Phil and I still can't close my mouth and eyes... He's an incredible guitar virtuose and many more... Thank you internet, thank you youtube for bring us all these great musicians.
This clip brought tears to my eyes.
How Amazing a skilled musician/performer is he singing such a powerful song.
I first saw Glass Harp perform at the Richmond Coliseum in Virginia in the fall of '71. Glass Harp was the warm up band for Alice Cooper. What a great performance by Phil Keaggy!
He really makes those strings talk. Praise the Lord for giving this man such a gift.
Phil is just so blessed with godly talent and he absolutely honors Christ in all he does.
Seen him play twice excellent guitarist...

Thank the Lord for your Gifts,
Uncle Phil knows how to bring it & put it on the table! Time is TIMELESS
I saw Phil Keaggy and Rick Cua back in the 80's in a small, standing-room-only auditorium in Amarillo! IT WAS AWESOME!
With Romans 8:28 thrown in, even jet lag can turn into a GOOD thing.
Phil, you're a master!
I was at a PK concert in California and he was asking for requests and knowing that he liked the Beatles as I did, I shouted out “Hard Days Night,” and he just played the opening chord. That was his response to my request. That’s all that was needed. Haha.
that fast tuning was awesome!
He is heavily influenced by the Beatles. His version of Here Comes The Son is spot on.

I was just about to type that.
this tape delay(assuming) sounds so cool.

Wonderfully done Philip.
Every time I hear this man or see him he is better than I had previously The is more handsome , like he was getting younger not older.

Or even better, someone who doesn't know who he is walks in....
Lol
