I saw him in concert 3 times, met him too. What a humble man! I still think he is the best guitarist ever, especially when I saw him lead and rhythm guitar at the same time!
I saw him play about this time. May a year later. It looks like the same band he had. Erie, PA Waldamere Ballroom. Not very many people were there. Played about 3 hours. Solo for the middle hour. It was great. The only song name I remember was "Sunday School" He wondered why such a negative song got such a positive reaction.
Jimi was known for playing lead and rhythm at the same time, as can be heard on Little Wing and Castles Made of Sand. Hendrix was an innovator, and many great guitarists followed his lead.
Been listening to phil my whole life, my dad has been to so many concerts he knows phil now, like he will recognize my dad in the audience and wave to him, we were able to arrange a semi private concert for my dad's birthday a few years ago, phil and his wife were great, they went out to dinner with my parents and then at the concert asked what Playlist we had for him, we told him we just wanted him there do whatever he wanted. He was very appreciative as he had just come from a gruling and hot outdoor event. Very cool and talented dude. We were able to do the same thing with Paul Clark ,who dad also knows, for my mother's birthday I wasn't able to make that trip but he came to their house after for a cookout.
I saw Phil live over 10X in the 1980's. Every show was tremendous. The first time was 2 months before this video was filmed. Instead of playing his usual Les Paul or Strat, Phil had a never before seen, prototype guitar someone loaned him for that show. That "someone" was actually there that night. It was none other than Paul Reed Smith.
One of the best riffs I’ve ever heard! I wore out this album in my teens and 20s! I love this arrangement here where they harmonize that amazing riff. Phil is one of the best musicians to ever pick up a guitar!
I was saved in 1995. I dropped the band, the death metal, and in my ignorance, I thought, “well, if Jesus is all about hymns, then so be it!”…. Then I found an old cassette of a band called “Jerusalem”…. Blew my mind, the I discovered Phil!!! Jesus, he made music! Thus, we should play it as unto Him, and there shall be prog rock, unto Him. Tis as good thing!
I like death metal and Phil’s music. I do not discriminate based on a songwriters beliefs. A good songwriter and musician are good, no matter what they personally think to be true.
This is a great example of Phil's prowess as an electric lead guitarist. Absolutely dazzling. If you like this as much as I do, keep searching for some of his acoustic work. His guitar is truly an extension of the man. Definitely a gift.
I was at a workshop Phil did a couple of years ago. I asked him what feeds his musical imagination. He said he listens to a lot of classical music. And he autographed my guitar. :)
Thank you Phil, to share your memories. Through its Italian translation, the Lord has used this song for His glory here in Italy. That was the time I gave my life to Jesus. God bless you and everything that surrounds your life, family and Church ❤
So sorry, Rebecca, I couldn't find any audio or video about that. It was a faithful translation of the original. God bless you and everyone of us in these difficult days, where we can see what the Word of God is announcing since thousands of years about the coming end of TIME🙏
Met him one night after he left Glass Harp. In Youngstown,Ohio - his home Town. Got saved that night & the next day gave a concert on a flatbed trailer at the old Austintown high school. Great concert and one heck of a guy.
I got to meet him multiple times, because his aunt was friends with my mom and I would take her to his concerts. His talent speaks for itself, but what I felt in The Spirit when he would come near or sit next to me was rather surprising. Talk about a buzz!
Sure Phil is talented, and Jimi left that one blurb in a guitar magazine, but to compare the two musicians is fairly silly. Jimi played on another level.
My brother and I often talk about ‘jam sessions’ within the concerts. Just watching the band feed off each other and let the musical creativity flow. This is the epitome in the CCM realm. LOVE IT!!
A magnificent song, voice and guitar player with a superb band. I saw Phil in college solo. He did this. His guitar sounded like an ocean. A gift to Phil, Phil a gift to us.
Props to the sound guy...and wow those guitar tones are so good! Drums are tuned deep an dry, just great overall - and the lyrics really make you stop and think about what you're doing.
play for the Lord??? Or also for himelf, for his honour? And if yes, this music leads the artist and all who listen in the wrong way, away from the Lord Jesus.

So many memories attached to this song. The first time I actually got to see Phil Keaggy play was at Calvary Chapel church in California. I was in the 6th grade back then and to this day I'm so thankful that I was able to see and hear one of the best of the best.
I’m not a born again Christian but I’ve been a fan of Phil’s since first hearing him around 1981 or’82. I heard him on an album called How The West Was One, and that was it. I think like a lot of people I respond to spirituality in music, whether it’s John Coltrane, John McLaghlin or anyone else. Artists reach down deep, connect with their soul and somehow turn that into music. It’s a beautiful thing. People should also listen to the band Phil had before going solo, Glass Harp. Some great music there, too.
Saw him in a small Calvary Chapel church in So. California around 1983. He had just finished the Rit tour. This is definitely Contemporary Christian music.
One of the Best times with my brother was seeing Phil in concert playing Christian music. His master playing guitar skills still blows me away !!! Always loved him; always will !

Still, to this day, my favorite Keaggy, Sunday's Child, Find Me in these Fields and Crimson and Blue... All masterpieces!!! Thanks for being part of the soundtrack of my life!!!!

Saw Phil perform this when he was touring right after it was released. So many people in the audience got up in a huff, clutching their pearls. Imagine! A Christian playing an electric gee-tar!
I love Phil. I've seen him twice. Once was with Randy Stonehill where they played together. I even shook his hand. But sorry, time never ends. There is not an end to time, for to put one thought after another, you must have time. And to worship God around the throne in heaven takes... TIME! I have no idea where the church came up with the notion that time eventually comes to an end. Maybe from the phrase "when time will be no more" in the great hymn, "When We All Get To Heaven." God is the God who is, who was, and who is to come! And we will live with him forever and ever. That's TIME!
