Critically acclaimed musician Ted Yoder is widely considered “the Bela Fleck of the hammered dulcimer." Ted is a National Hammered Dulcimer champion. He’s released five beloved and critically acclaimed solo albums, and become a master educator of the instrument.
Ted has been profiled in the Kearney Hub, Huffington Post, and on NPR’s All Things Considered show, among many other features, profiles, and reviews in regional and
national tastemaking outlets. On Wednesday, August 24, 2016, Ted became something of a household name when a Facebook Live video of him from his Live From The Orchard series playing Tears For Fears’ “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” went viral. The video rocketed up to 53 million views in four days

When you become the master of the Bard's college in skyrim
if only
It's the only college I ever graduated from LOL
Jerzy Kajmowicz mages guild?
James Harden every time I go down this internet wormhole and see people playing covers of songs on weird instruments or like all parts of a song on one instrument it’s always this or Africa by Toto (which he also plays in another video)
Level 20 Bard with a 22 in Charisma, and enchanted dulcimer, and advantage, using charm.
Have you ever considered playing at Renaissance Faires? I imagine you'd draw quite a crowd.
James Clum Dolan seriously!
I’m almost positive I’ve seen this guy play at the Oregon Country Fair when I was really young. The dude had me mesmerized.
this instrument isn’t a renaissance instrument
@@owenwillard5409 I don’t know much about the hammered dulcimer, what time period was the instrument created?
Edit nevermind, I found that it originated in Persia and came to Western Europe in 900-1200 AD
Ren faires 🤣
I'm an elementary music teacher and used this video for one of my lessons. The kids couldn't get enough of it! They would always request that I would play this for almost lesson. Great arrangement!
That's awesome ♡
Same but a while back when I was teaching preschool! This instrument and his skills are truly amazing
I can't get enough of this
Thanks Chris.
Ted Yoder No problem
dat boi who the heck are you
I feel the same way. Just listen over and over! Really enjoyable sir. Thanks so much for sharing.
Hi Chris
You are amazing. Great sound and absolutely beautiful.
Hevesh5 you here?
I love tears for fears💜
hevesh5 the amazing domino artist?!?!
Yep!
Once in a,while you come across a video which showcases what UA-cam is really about...
Thank you. Appreciate that.
*suddenly wants a dulcimer for Christmas*
I love watching those mute shutter things go up and down. Its oddly satisfying.
Ted I come back to this video every so often; your rendition sits comfortably in its own home in my mind. This video had such a nostalgic feel on first watch; and now it's formed its own.
I appreciate it. Thank you. Very kind.
Just saw him in concert today and still couldn’t get enough of his dulcimer. Had to come here again. Such joyful music.
No matter who 's playing it, this is a security blanket of a song
Masterful performance my friend 👍
This is genuinely probably the most beautiful sounding instrument I've ever heard.
This popped up on Facebook years ago with a few thousand views on it and then a few days later with millions!!! Try amazing. This song was made for this instrument.
I don’t even know why but every time I watch this it brings a tear to my eye. Just sounds so beautiful and it’s so amazing to see somebody making music like that.
It's like a piano with the cover off
Gareth Alford a harp would be a naked piano surely?
@@benmcdonald1980 a harp is pulled/plucked, this is played like a piano by beeing struck with hammers
That sounds different.
it's like a piano but way harder
@@gsxmidas4744 I disagree. Piano has a lot more going on.
First time hearing this instrument. Sounds so majestic.
Thank you. It's a hammered dulcimer.
Bless you my friend! I hope you and your family are doing great! Amazing cover and skill
Peace!!
Thank you. Appreciate it.
Just pure happy vibes coming from this.
Thank you.
@@TedYoderMusic Thank *you* for playing this :)
Everything about this brought tears to my eyes .... you're so good at it ..m the setting .... performing for your kids ... how beautiful thankyou for sharing :)
I was looking for this exact song played on the dulcimer. I don’t know why but I remember hearing the dulcimer and thinking this song with sound amazing on it. It is
I never even knew I liked this song until this lol. You really made it sound amazing man
i like the adding of 2 extra beats in the verses, really lets it breathe
Well I now have a new goal in life. I will some day learn to play this instrument
Chills! This is amazing & whoever gave this a thumbs down must have done it accidentally or they're not human.
yeah, sub human garbage fuck wits who could never understand anything much less the significance of this video. Those people always want to say shit like "ohhh art is pointless, there is no use for that, you don't need music, I don't understand, I don't care, blablabla." but if they apply that same logic to themselves all they will ever do is eat and poo... wait, that is all moneys do...
+marklarizzle Amen man!
Some people just have no lives so they have to try and bring everyone else down with them. This is the sort of music I could listen to every day.
+marklarizzle Or maybe they just don't like the song. Personally I think this is great but you can't criticise others for having an opinion.
+Carl Johnson That's fine if it's not someones taste in music but why downvote it, just move on and don't listen to it.
This is extremely cool but seeing him play this musical piece and a half dozen more live from 8 feet away a couple years ago literally brought tears to many eyes... great stuff
Don't have much to say other than this is beautiful, thank you.
Excellent !
I have only played a hammered dulcimer once, and loved it. Listening to this just fuels my desire to own one!
Do it! It's one the most underrated instruments and such a joy to play.
@@TedYoderMusic I am curious. I have never seen a dulcimer with the foot conteolled side dampers before. Did you create them yourself?
No, my builder put those on. The guy I endorse is www.masterworksok.com but he's pretty expensive. If you're wanting to get into the hammered dulcimer you can start here, www.songbirdhd.com. His are less expensive and you get a lot for the prices. If you have more questions, feel free to email me at ted@tedyoder.com. @@stoatlord1976
@@TedYoderMusicThank you Ted, that is very helpful! :D
This is amazing
Thank you Robert.
2019, where 1.5 Million still isn’t enough views for this video.
This is still one of those songs I listen to on bad days when the world feels like it's in eternal clouds, and I need a little sunbeam on my ears. It always makes me cry a little but so does all the best music. Thanks for sharing with us
That was soooo freakin' good man😳😳😳😳👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I love Tears for fears and I love your playing
baltapaulaxl thank you sir. It wasn't perfect but it sure is fun to play.
Just saw this on facebook, so I had to come over her to youtube to check to see if you had any more vids. You are absolutely amazingly talented. Subscribed. :)
Same here! Amazing work
Likewise. Wow!
Ditto!
Listen to Hotel California, it's awesome!!!
Honestly..this is talent undefined..just wow..build it and tears for fears will come
Coolest Dad award!
Makes me think l could play an instrument for Gods glory. Amen
Beautiful music..
One of my favourite instruments... Santur!
within the first few seconds i was already delighted
Not sure how this found me, but thank you for posting it. Total mood changer. God bless you.
Thank you. Appreciate the feedback.
Whoa! I sure am glad there is such talent and beauty in the world. It makes life worth living. Thank you!
Thank you. I’m humbled.
Can't believe there 345 thumbs down, classless & tone deaf one can only presume 🙄
🤣 it’s okay. Thanks for the encouragement.
Maybe they have an issue with the bars of 6/4 timing that aren't in the original. It's a little different but I still like it!
@@matthewhart6857 yeah I can definitely appreciate the work he put into it and he's really good but the weird extra space between verse lines is hurting my brain
Thumbs down are because his timing is way out. Sorry
Seriously.
thats gotta be a bitch to tune
It takes me about 30 minutes to tune my hammered dulcimer. But yes, it's a bit exhausting, especially when there's this one string, that just doesn't want to be in tune :-D
I met this family in Evart Michigan at the dulcimer festival last year. What a great family!
4 years ago my old platoon Sgt posted this on his page his name was Paul Slayton. He is no longer with us but everytime I revisit this song I think of him and how he was a great leader and just a good soul. A few years ago he succumbed to his PTSD and I wish I could have been there for him. But I thank Ted Yoder for this song as a portal to say hello to my friend. Rest In Peace Paul.
Thank you Bryan for such a wonderful story. I’m honored my music can be used in such a precious way. Rest In Peace SGT Paul. Thank you both for your service.
I saw this 2016, found you again today 6/2021... Beautiful 😍
Still, still loving this. ALWAYS makes me smile
His family is soo frigging sick of hearing this song lmao
read the description. It's only the second time he's played it all the way through.
Joe Digout this guy is some kind of version of the guy that always plays wonderwall with his guitar at parties
I never got tired of hearing my dad play Turkey in the Straw on his hammer dulcimer. I'd give my left toe to hear him play it today. This video is beyond priceless!
How do you figure? Do you think they were told to watch intently and with great interest? It’s good acting for sure if that’s the case
Lol
I like to return every year back to this video.
It cleanses the soul S2
Had a smile throughout the entire video. 🙂
Thank you.
So beautiful
dude is shredding
Beautiful music
you should do a coldplay song
If you're interested, I did covers of some Coldplay songs on my hammered dulcimer :-D
Sure send them my way. I'd love to watch them.
He just put Viva La Vida up a week ago. Did you see it?
I’d seen a clip of this but had no details, did a search for everybody want to rule the world, weird instrument.
This was the first search result.
Awesome skills my dude.
This is when I know the algorithms work. This is amazing!
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it and that the algorithms found you. 😃
wonderful!!!bluesy jazzy but still quite light!
it is also one of those instruments where you can control sustain. and one of the rare ones that have percussion included.
I still want to see you play live!
Where are you located? Have I ever gotten close?
@TedYoderMusic Hi Ted! I live in Missouri and state line to state line is only about 6 hours so that would be close enough 😉 you've been circling me in surrounding states-Would love to see you live! ❤️
2:11 Oh boy i was waiting for that part and it was amazing.
many years later this is still an amazing video. amazing skill amazing cover and an amazing sounding instrument
From Texas: howdy and precise timing
Happy Independence Day 2022 July 4th
Its so relaxing and satisfying at the same time 😊
Swampletics is that you!?
I searched for an ungodly amount of time in the comments for this. Thank you.
You are fantastic sir!
Indian Hammered Dulcimer: Santoor is the best Hammered Dulcimer in the world, we can play it extremely fast, and it sounds most beautiful.
Thanks Ted Yoder a bit of joy in my day. Cheers!!!!
have this video saved in my archives...love it so much
Very impressive!
Can’t wait for children in the comments to be like “HaHA, fUnNI sPEAkeR MaN.”
IMPRESSIVE!
Surprised no ones revisited this one
This is such a magical sound wow
Absolutely class!!!
just simply perfect
Never gets old 😍
There's this weird delay before every line of the verses but other than that it's okay.
This looks like a fun thing to play
absolutely beautiful
BEAUTIFUL!….
Straight talent
That's impressive skill.
UA-cam's algorithms are just creepy now
Great! I am always interested in modern music played on traditional instruments, it gives these instruments a tool to pass it to the next generation and it is perfectly possible as we hear here again. I am planning to do some rock tunes on my hummels.
Wow. Awesome performance.
I am so enthused by this
This sounds magical
Very good song
Beautiful. This made my day man
Rock on Brother 🤘😎🤘🖤
That is SUPERB
Amazing!
I am so happy I found this. This is just stupidly beautiful ❤😍. It's like heaven to my ears.
I was looking at UA-cam and came upon this. I really love listening to it! Another instrument I have never heard of. Pure delight and magic to listen to. Thanks for posting this.
Perfect play
