+Everett Savage Are you aware of how much of an elitist you sound like? Because you totally do. People can believe whatever the hell they want to believe. @@jonnymiller7653 I would have never made the connection. I kinda thought that this song was about Satan. "Blackened feathers falling down" "you will wear your independence like a crown" like how Satan the "archangel" had "fallen" from Gods grace and is now reigning "independant" in Hell. I KNOW it sounds all so EVIL, BUT, Ghost does sing about Satan, and kinda glorifies him because sometimes, MANY times the church is full of lies and hatred. I love Ghost but I don't worship Satan, I am NOT sure IF there IS a God vs Satan situation anyway. If this makles NO sense, sorry I've been having a bit of Vodka tonight.
Empowering... When I'm struggling through myriad tribulations, feeling like I'm alone in my fight, this song reminds me of a message my father taught me well: To be independent. There is power that independence brings which this song reminds me to call upon in my darkest moments...
So is the video meant to represent Papa escaping from a corrupt organized religion to give free thought and power to the people, or just a Lucifer allegory? Or both? °_°
NotReallyaPlanet He didn't leave the band, he's on guitar now for the guitarist who went missing/left for an unknown reason. And to take his place is the new female bassist. Water = New Guitarist, Omega = Missing? New bassist = A female
I love this video and the imagery so M-U-C-H!! It's based on the classic German silent Fritz Lang film: "Metropolis". Superb. The film is a masterpiece; and so is this song and video!!!
This could be the best band today. Hard ass rock and guitars. Awesome vocals. Killer organ and sound. Excellent writing and stage show. Insane how good.
8Biohazard5, I totally agree!!!! I was completely drawn to them! The lead singer seemed to have the audience completely under his mesmerizing spell;)) I totally can't wait to see them again in concert!!!!!!!
He probably would've been featured on a couple of songs by now and they would probably be fucking badass. I think it's time to jam some Dio, Rainbow and some Heaven and Hell now.
Dope video. Bioshock meets Metropolis and the occult (more occult?) Fantastic song. I wasnt sure what people saw in this band at first, but whatever it is, it "clicked", and I couldnt be happier.
I thought of Metropolis the first time I saw it because that's my favorite movie, but the more I watch this, the less I see Metropolis in it. Honestly, even though they were probably going for Metropolis, the visuals remind me much more of Rapture from Bioshock. I'm probably reading too far into it though due to my love for the movie, and I just need to enjoy the video for what it is.
Nah, I can definitely see both, and there is no harm in heavily analyzing the stuff you love (or don't love). Granted, I have a bad habit of giving grand hypotheses to people who pretty much never ask for them, and thus I have a bit of a bias, but still... I think it is healthy to do introspection on why you like things, and a part of that is analyzing what you like. I agree with the Bioshock skew, though. I think the particularly dark tone (Bioshock is a tad bit darker than Metropolis), the masquerade mask(s), and overall burlesque theme really give a BS flavor.
Ghost are fucking awesome. Motörhead is my favourite band, I love metal, punk, death, black, classical and everything in between. Great to see a band like this. I’m 44 and think this is the most exciting band in a long time. We need more rock n roll showmanship and real rock stars
In Gnostic myth, the judeo-christian "god" is actually a being known as Yaldabaoth, the Demiurge, a false deity that usurped creation from the true Creator and claimed that it was the one true god. Satan is actually an entity called Satanael, an angel that rebelled against Yaldabaoth by unmasking it and revealing it to be what it truly is, casting the christian lucifer in a much more positive spin. Meliora's overarching theme is that of the void, an absence of god, and I think it's really interesting how they've combined that with Pinnacle to the Pit being about the fall of Lucifer alongside the idea that he's actually tearing away a false god's power. Wear your independence like a crown.
God dammit this is like the 300 millionth time I’ve enjoyed this song/video and I will never get enough of it. Dammit I love the clergy. Thank you mr. forge for all the amazing art you have given me to experience. Thank you thank you thank you.

It looks like they've combined clips from various old movies to make this. I think the opening scene is one of those educational films from the 1950s about behaving in school. Does anyone know what the scene starting 1:57 is from?
"Behold the Demi-Surge, he wields the power to entrance and enslave. Through industry, man can harness this power." Boy im scared as shit of how true this is
It is vague because God is a description of any deity from anywhere amongst the religious spectrum. From Bhudda to Hare Krishna to Osiris, even Satan and the Holy Ghost, they are all God's. A god is a deity that a person worships. Hell I could even worship Jack Daniels and he would then be considered a god. I know one thing for sure and that is Lemmy Kilmeister, now he is a god.
Doesn't change it's definition. It's a common misconception and easy way of side stepping truth when people use the vague title of "god" to define that of which they worship. How many celebrities want to praise god, even god almighty when they win an Oscar? Which god do you assume they mean? Your god, are you sure of that? "God almighty, and almighty god" are not the names of gods. I am going to make a leap hear and assume you are Christian. Do you even know the Christian God by name? Actual name. Go google and respond if you like. I suggest you research carefully, you might find out more than you care to know.
Yes Please! More Ghost! "Cirice" is great. "Year Zero" is crazy. So is "He is". There's a whole story and lore to the band, but the concept of the band is something like: What if The Devil tried to take over people's minds with catchy music? That is probably very over simplified...but that's basically it. Tobias Forge is the main mastermind (and lead singer) of the band.
I Cannot believe that this video has almost ten years, I remember when I used to watched before going to my last year of high school :`(, I accomplished one of my dreams that is to see Ghost live in 2023, and luckily they performed this song, it was f*ck*ng awesome!!
I came to watch the music video for probably like the millionth time since it came out but this time was different. I've literally just finished watching Metropolis and wanted to see how much of the film I could see in the music video - quite a bit was my answer. I really enjoyed Metropolis and that's saying a lot because films don't always hold my full attention so I was nervous about watching a silent film. It is a testament to the strength of the film that for two and a half hours I paid absolute and total attention to what I was watching. I've a new appreciation for this video and for Ghost. Funny how even years later I can still find more to love about this song, video and band. I'm seeing them in a couple of weeks so if they play this song, I wonder if it will hit different than the last time I heard it live. Also, man that frickin' bass?!?! I gotta get that learnt asap!
So, when learning this bass line, I realized that half the time the 6th fret is played, it is played 3 times in a row, so the tab spells "6 6 6". While I think it's just a neat coincidence, I wouldn't be surprised if this was on purpose, given it's Ghost.
Probably on purpose, since you could have played first fret on the higher string.
One thing I will always commend them for is the thought that goes into their music. It’s not just a coincidence that they make satanic music that could easily be mistaken for a Beatles song.
Hell, they covered a Beatles song better than the original.
I mean a lot of the Christian songs I play at church is also 666666666 so imma go ahead and call it a coincidence...
perhaps - given that you worked it out - you could be a peer of the group.
Ghost is badass band
that bass line surprise-attacks you, throws you into the corner and gives you the most awesome beating of your life
The bass is epic

about RELIGION. .and the silliness of it. YOU are barking up the wrong tree with me. good sir.
Im not a pimple faced kid behind a computer screen.
I am not suffering from cognitive distortions and blindly following this band. I rather made a very EDUCATED observation On what Ghost is doing.
You may choose to try and correct a stranger if you wish.,as it only eludes to something lacking. And not from me....and if YOU actually believe there is a HIGHER BEING..than you are part of the blind. in my opinion.
+Everett Savage Are you aware of how much of an elitist you sound like? Because you totally do. People can believe whatever the hell they want to believe. Just because they don't all agree with you doesn't make them a problem. Atheists are just as intolerant as religious people in exactly the same way: "Think like I think or you're wrong."
+BestWayKilla I am aware that I am not the best at articulation of words. i definitely am no elitist by any means. I never poked a word at anyone..until I was commented on..so I replied in kind. I recall saying believe in yourself. ..and that I am anti religion. Atheists are on another level. My original post, was a viewpoint about the video...it seems that there are those that want to say something about my words. which is fine...but I never said..believe how I believe.
I believe in Science. Thats it. oh..and Love Ghost.
You may choose to jump on my words..and say what you wish. I only wish..for the world..to see the Universe that I see.
We both love Ghost, that we can agree on. I am not religious myself, but I'm not an atheist either. I just find that calling people who believe in God or a higher being a "problem" isn't warranted.
A lot of Metropolis-inspired visuals, which I am absolutely loving
Had a chance to see them live with Iron Maiden let me just say ghost is amazing live. Papa Emeritus has amazing vocals with good range. I would highly recommend you see them live for reals.
I will if they ever get off their asses and come to Australia
I'm getting some serious Metropolis (1927) vibes from the video, but the music is just... DAMN... so good.
Susann Calvert the archival footage is from the 1930 pic “Madam Satan” by Cecil B DeMille! Although I think the subtitles in this music video have been altered? I remember Madam Satan being more of a romance/domestic drama (set on a blimp!)
@@hannahrule2192 Thanks, I've been looking for that information with no success until I saw this comment.
Try the music video for radio gaga by queen. It's a love letter to the film
@@GuruGuru-mp5cu thanks for the suggestion! It's an old favourite of mine, but there is never a bad time to indulge in a bit of Queen!
@@redlikewater2453 end of ghost? This line up made all the great songs? Fff lmao you must be a new ghost fan because it's not a secret that Tobias wrote all of the songs along with the co writing of Omega and Ghost is Tobias's solo project. The other band mates did nothing but playing live. This isn't a secret. Remember they were nameless ghouls. They were nameless and faceless for a reason
Such a catchy chorus. Love how the last chord comes in a half beat early.
Ghost has been my 2018 new band/music discovery. Thank you UA-cam. Ghost are luring me in. Hard to resist their music.
Metal has come full circle...
Full circle, but with a pentagram in the middle. How cool is THAT?!! :)
Thats how the bass should sound in any metal song.. is just hipnotazing!!
Hypnotizing 😂 sorry I’m a grammar nazi 😂 You’re right though , when it comes to ghost the music is completely and totally hypnotic. It’s enchanting and an everyday necessity to hear. I ❤️ ghost, every time one of their songs is on I can’t help but turn the volume up & enjoy it they are my favorite.
Except for Maiden, they have their own bass thing going on ;)
Metal bassists sucks, they have no creativity and only follow the guitarists. This is the main reason I like Ghost
listen to some KoRn is some of they're songs bass has main riff i would say
check out the omnific it's just two bassists and a drummer
Ghost i hope you hear this all of you. your music has touched me more than anything ive ever experienced, honestly i listened to you guys on the radio and hated you, then a week ago my girl made me read your lyrics and you touched my soul.. my girl amd i were bout to break up, then we found you and we are now closer than ever. In just a week you have blown my opinions on slipknot and lamb of god and tool who were my favorites out of the water. I cant express how much i appreciate your contribution to my well being even though you will never see this. From the bottom of my heart your music has changed my point of view from pessimistic in the fake glow of wannabe faith to shining the darkness amd acceptance of what life really consists of upon me..
sincerely, your now forever faithful child of Ghost.. sorry to be so corny but you have opened a new creaky rusted door i thought would never be ajar and shown me a new view on everything... darkness can be light even brighter than the sun. you must dwell in the shade to appreciate the day.
welcome
That bass tone is legendary.
Look! It’s a bird! No, it’s a plane! No, it’s papa Emeritus!
Lol
Wait! Now it's a Cardinal!
I'm not 100% if it was intended, but I like the double joke in your comment - as the asthetical style of the video is called Metropolis-art...
not all heroes wear capes, they dress like satanic popes aswell
I feel like the Papa emeritus calls the
City by the album
as a fan of classic films, I am in complete aw of how gorgeous this music video is, everything from the visual effects to the coloration of the film down to the actors and makeup used is 100% accurate and I honestly teared up the first time I saw this. For those who don't know of it and love this video you need to watch Metropolis, the movie this music video is based on and look at how well this was made.
I know its amazing
I always wondered if this was a movie. Thanks for info. This is an awesome song and video
The costumes and some of the scenes are inspired by a 1930s movie named Madam Satan
Antonia Stoyanova
Thank you for naming the movie. I might buy it on iTunes just for fun.
I thought the same thing when I saw it.Good to know I learned something in college.
That chorus is legendary. Orgasmic. :O
He's. A. God
Yes.
*Devil
blackened feathers falling down
that's so true
The story of Lucifer's fall, the lyrics are genius.
And he got back up.
I am stronger than ever, and I stan these things called Anime and Metal
NoppeN Poor old Lucifer, he didn’t even do that much wrong tbh

Descarabia Dehtanin so is being 69th like
Descarabia Dehtanin i roasted my woofer giving a demo at a sound competition with this song
and not really chewy
Metropolis + The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari + Ghost = fucking fantastic music video.
Great work, this video is just dripping with so much style I love it
that bass tone is literally unbeatable
I love that turn at around 1:40! Such an addicting melody
The bass lines in this song gives me goosebumps.

It gives me orgasms
Vicki Iero lol
+Vicki Iero XD
Yea, i play bass so i tried playing this, its when i realized i suck XD
That exhale and rise at 3:12!
Magic moment right there.
super wheels Yeah, only here Papa saves the people from the enslavement the oligarchs caused: "The light belongs to the people". A nice little socialist tip of the hat; gotta love Sweden.
"Hey wheres Papa Emeritus III?" "Hes doing his superman thing again."
😂 love this comment
"You are cast out from the heavens to the ground, Blackened feathers falling down."
Months later, this chorus gets me every time.
Just saw Ghost live and they were great. Tons of energy, funny, great effects, great crowd.
Great song, absolutely incredible and I loved the graphics! Very creative!
Hey Cirice ;-D
Cannibal Bunny Hello, how are you? :-)
+Masha Malinina Is that really you?
22trem Yes, it is really me, Masha Malinina, the little Cirice :-)
The Mad Doctor Let's say... I can not talk about it... I promised... :-))
God i used to listen to them as a kid but never knew the band name- now I'm do damn happy i found this band again, god the nostalgia hits hard
Empowering...
When I'm struggling through myriad tribulations, feeling like I'm alone in my fight, this song reminds me of a message my father taught me well: To be independent. There is power that independence brings which this song reminds me to call upon in my darkest moments...
There are no words to express how awesome this is.
hybridamerica Agreed!
1,075 people disliked it, guess they have bad taste. Ghost are great!
They are obviously idiots.
1087 !
EQ-smoove No. Kiss sucks. Ghost is great.
this video, especially the subtitle font, as well as the setting, reminds me of Rapture from Bioshock
same here
Nikjojo the style is called art-deco, and Bioshock is set right at the pinnacle of the art-deco movement, so the city was built to emphasize that.
Justin Trottier so if BioShock represented the Pinnacle of the art Deco movement, does that mean that this music video represents the Pit?
Your Right man!.. Damn... As an avid gamer, Bioshock and Infinite hold a special place in my gaming heart!
Would you kindly subscribe and give a thumbs up.
There are two kinds of people on Earth. Those who know Ghost is amazing, and the dirty rotten liars. This band is insanely good!
Perfect
I genuinely don't like this band haha. But recognise they're obviously talented I just don't dig the sound
So is the video meant to represent Papa escaping from a corrupt organized religion to give free thought and power to the people, or just a Lucifer allegory? Or both? °_°
Those sound like the same thing to me.
Both
Both
Yes.
Their words are just....wow😍 I can't express how much I love this band
“The Light Belongs to the People!”
Love it.
Omg the bass though
And he left the band :o(
NotReallyaPlanet He didn't leave the band, he's on guitar now for the guitarist who went missing/left for an unknown reason. And to take his place is the new female bassist. Water = New Guitarist, Omega = Missing? New bassist = A female
Just saw them live... the new chick TEARS IT UP with this song. Does it proud!
Dravenousone1 Is Omega really... gone ;(
Not gone, just moved to a different position in the cult.
I love this video and the imagery so M-U-C-H!! It's based on the classic German silent Fritz Lang film: "Metropolis". Superb. The film is a masterpiece; and so is this song and video!!!
Finally!!! Now Lets Make the Deus In Absentia Video
+erick santos yes, please!
+erick santos I like that idea!!
+erick santos NOOOOOO the worst song in the album by far, do the video from absolution
Metall Head The Worst song for me is Mummy Dust,That really sucks to me Dude
erick santos Its not good but no the worst for me is that song you say if the album end with Absolution are perfect, i respect your opinion
This could be the best band today. Hard ass rock and guitars. Awesome vocals. Killer organ and sound. Excellent writing and stage show. Insane how good.
When I first saw them live, it felt mezmerizing. Like, literally like I was getting hypnotized in some way. Amazing and powerful band.
8Biohazard5, I totally agree!!!! I was completely drawn to them! The lead singer seemed to have the audience completely under his mesmerizing spell;)) I totally can't wait to see them again in concert!!!!!!!
8Biohazard5 me to
8Biohazard5 so are you the girl who is in the cirice music video?
Saw them with Pinkish Black on a blotter of Deadpool acid. Mind = blown.
Wish Dio was alive to see Ghost. He’d love this. RIP RJD
I know he would love this... 😟
He probably would've been featured on a couple of songs by now and they would probably be fucking badass. I think it's time to jam some Dio, Rainbow and some Heaven and Hell now.
In the year 1230 A.D. HOLY SHIT I DIDNT EVEN KNOW HE WAS DEAD
The line "You will wear your independance as a crown" is so freaking perfect.
It ''like a crown'' not ''as a crown''
The way he says from the pinnacle to the pit is addicting
Absolute Banger . Ghost has really grown on me.
That bass is beautiful!
Exceptional use of 1930's Expressionist Art iconography.

It's actually from the movie called madam Satan. Look it up!
I am deeply saddened that I've only taken the time to check out Ghost now! I've been missing out, to put it mildly.
Ghost are fucking awesome. Motörhead is my favourite band, I love metal, punk, death, black, classical and everything in between. Great to see a band like this. I’m 44 and think this is the most exciting band in a long time. We need more rock n roll showmanship and real rock stars
You sound like you could be my twin. Rock on.
Yaldabaoth is Lucifer, the self appointed God. It's the same dualistic god
Thanks for that background. I really appreciate you taking time to type that. Big facts ❤
Love the video , and love this song as a Christian too haha! I enjoy the story telling of Lucifer's fall from grace. Truly amazing!
I agree
same here im christian too
I myself am waiting for them to come out with a video about where God slaughters all the 1st born Egyptian kids. Gonna be brutal!

some kind of fontaine?
Ah, after 3:57 the artwork for "From The Pinnacle To The Pit" on the album makes sense now.
"From the pinnacle, to the pit"
This sounds so good.
These guys are respected by metal and punk royalty. There almost like a new age misfits.
Never thought of the misfits... Totally!
yeah they remind me of Grave's Misfits a lot for some reason
My thoughts exactly!
"They are like new age misfits" would be proper English.
actually since the misfits in this case is a singular noun being the name of a band, "a new age misfits" is accurate grammar
Just got back from seeing them in Detroit. They sound so much heavier live the difference is insane
svfutbol20 I saw them at louder than life and yeah they sound much harder (better to me) live.
I know what you mean!
so true, i watched them a few years back open for A7X it was fucking epic
Saw them in Cleveland and I was blown away
Man if Ghost went to Australia I would flip my shit.
Damn, this is incredible! I loved every second of this video! Not long ago Zev Deans gave us that beautiful H.R. Giger'esque Behemoth's "Messe Noire" video and now this. I'm not too much of watching music videos but I'll definetely check out whatever that director has created.
+DrakosLord He did an incredible video for Portal's Curtain last year or the year before, and it's pretty goddamned incredible. Very haunting, very creepy.
Robert Miles Yeah, I just watched it over Zev's page. Damn, it's really hypnotizing. He really made a good use of the contrast of white among all that black and purple. Fucking great!
He has such catchy tunes... they get stuck in my head all day. Those are my good days.

I don´t care if this is "pop" or "metal" or whatever... it´s cool music and I dig it!!
I'm unsure how I'm just now discovering this band, but damn I'm glad I am. This is some of the best shit I've heard in ages. Ghost kicks ass.
that bass line
crazy stuff, but i love it
Also, why argue about genres. Metal or not who gives a shit. It kicks ass. The end.
I remember when this was the first Ghost tune ever played over the radio. Had never heard of them and was blown away.
Love that opening guitar when it kicks in at ten seconds. That just sounds too good.
You might like the intro of Mezmer by Pinkly Smooth
+Josh Lukowicz I was thinking they sound a LOT like Pinkly Smooth.
+Chrysanths both have that eerie old cartoon sound
It looks like they've combined clips from various old movies to make this. I think the opening scene is one of those educational films from the 1950s about behaving in school.
Does anyone know what the scene starting 1:57 is from?
"Behold the Demi-Surge, he wields the power to entrance and enslave. Through industry, man can harness this power." Boy im scared as shit of how true this is
Straight out of the Word of God.
lol "God". I love that vague term.
chaosincarna How's it vague?
Gets me through my work day. Have their albums on a loop 🤘
I'm so glad I found this band. Their songs are so catchy and awesome.
The bass in the beginning is just so tasty
Best band out right now..
Yes Please!
Lol i remember back in the day when it was a mystery and it wasnt certain that tobias was behind the Papa. It was awesome
