You are right. What's even better is that this directly references a certain type of old horror film. The Hammer Film Productions (i.e. Hammer Films), which where these old low budget monster movies. Funny the song is called Square Hammer and the video is a parody of old Hammer Films.
Really liked metropolis. You see when the girl touches the son, lust will prevail. And therefore Darkness is sweeter than any light, and more fulfilling.

Definitely a 1920s German Expressionist, F.W. Murnau-type aesthetic. I don't see Hammer films at all.
I call this "glorious rock", with all the layers and the rhythms that grab your heartbeat and make you merge with the music.
it have the right mix of rock , synth and pop music. Ghost are a great band.
You also have to love the visuals in the videos they make for the songs. They are definitely unlike anything else you will ever see.

I'm late to the party but i just wanna say this music has had a huge impact on me. I don't think i've ever seen a band have so much fun together. Y'all are truly talented and it's clear that the music is made with love and true passion.
All the ghouls seem to really love what they do and clearly Tobias knew what he was doing by becoming papa. He's such a unique character and some could argue he's like a mascot. Keep up the awesome work and if for some reason y'all ever see this please tell Sodo to be a little gentler on his guitars 😅
It’s funny I was working sales quite a few years ago before Covid and a customer showed me a Ghost music video on UA-cam and even being a music geek I hadn’t heard of them by that point. I was blown away and have been listening ever since. Glad to see people catching up.
You should listen to avatar if you don’t already. They’re quite theatrical with some good lore. Their music is fucking awesome and their vocalist is hella skilled. They’re a tad bit heavier than ghost tho
I am there with you. I only found them about 16 months ago, but immediately fell in love and had to see them live. Best show I’ve ever been to in my life.
Always better late than never. I prefer either more extreme metal or really ambient music, but Ghost just hits a sweet spot.

Ghost's look does not match their sound. This is a big slap in the face which I really love. I was turned off at first because I expected loud crunchy guitars. I became a fan because of the band's fun personality and easy to listen metal/rock tone. Great band.
yes, I too was hesitant to listen to them because of how they looked. I thought it was going to sound like death metal where you can't understand the grunts and howls. but I heard them on waaf radio and then went to youtube and saw who it was. I was super surprised and now they are my favorite band.

My mom likes rock music among many other genres, she like metal, including some death metal bands that I absolutely despise. She kinda likes Ghost, but she says she can't take them seriously because of the way they look which is bad judgement on her side I guess, because she likes some songs from Cradle of Filth who look much sillier than Ghost.
Btw, some pop music is actually good. I used to be one of those who thought that if you're a metalhead you can only listen to metal. But that is the exact opposite of open minded.

This is my(and my 12 year old son's) current fav band. I saw them open for Iron Maiden a few years ago and they were fantastic. My son and I are buying metal t-shirts and going to see them live in Sep. This will be his first concert. I want him to experience what a metal/rock concert is all about. They are new, yet you still get a classic metal/rock feel to their style/sound. Can't wait.

Genuinely one of the best bands ive ever seen, and ive seen a lot! The audience is always very friendly, but also get into it. Perfect for your son.
I mean, they're like 16 years old so not exactly new but I know what you mean. When their first album came out I listened to it at the record store and it sounded like something maybe from the late 70's, but you look at the visuals and listen to the lyrics and it's like, shock rock. Super refreshing and they just keep improving.

Something I’ve noticed is that who the hell produced this song, the guitars are damn near perfectly mixed, eqed, everything sits perfectly in the mix, it’s extremely listenable but not in the billboard hot 100 way, rather, a good way

My best friend recommended Ghost to me for years. Never did I follow his advice until tonight. This is the first song I listened to, and boy do I regret not listening to it sooner. Now that our roads took us down separate paths and that we are not best friends anymore, this feels... saddening. Listening to this I feel like something's with me. A remnant of something full of good and bad times, happiness and depression, memories to be kept cherished forever. A presence of something so familiar, like a hand of someone dear on my shoulder, even though nothing's there. I feel like I've lost myself with his leaving, and listening to Ghost feels like the only way I can feel his presence still with me - a friend dearly missed. Wherever you are mate, take good care and all the best to you. I miss you, and thank you for all the good times we spent together - and thank you for recommending this absolutely amazing band, you truly have good taste in music.

I went to see Iron Maiden a few years ago and Ghost opened the show with Square Hammer. One of those, “Where the hell have you been all my life?”, moments.
Dude it happened to me too only I had heard the song “The ritual” before and I totally lost it when I saw who was opening for Maiden. That was maybe 5-6 years ago, in Sofia Bulgaria.
I also saw Ghost open for Iron Maiden a few years ago in St. Paul, Minnesota. Tobias was on stage talking about female orgasms lol. It was hilarious. It was also what got me to buy the tickets as I had seen Ghost once before at a rock festival. Didnt know who they were at the time but I fell in love with em right away!

Huh, this is my first time listening to Ghost and I was expecting something heavy. This is nice and funky though like some of Devin Townsend's lighter stuff.
Bruce Ghost aren't a heavy band. do you know Blue Oyster Cult? I would describe Ghost as a similar style or maybe doom metal.

This is a great song! But no one's talking about how amazing this music video is! It's so cool
I love how extra Papa is in this video. Best highlighted by the part where he leaves the theater. He could have just taken a step or two forward and then just turned and left, but instead he does this goofy step-thing where he tries to avoid stepping on everyone's feet, as if he's in a row farther back. I love it.
I think it's fairly obvious Tobias has some theatre/acting training. It really shows in his video performances.

I always expected ghost to have more of a grindcore sound or death metal but it’s more Ozzy Osborne than anything. Love it
From my understanding, Tobias has always been more influenced by hard rock/metal/occult bands from the 70s and 80s. If you'd like a harder sound w/ his vocals, you might like "Repugnant", the band he was in under his stage name Mary Goore.

its a good song but the beginning the piano or synthesizer sounds a bit "not rounded" esp. the end of the synth. part is a bit odd in my ears..

I've been a fan since 2013 and it warms my heart to see so many new Ghost fans. Came back to the video on this the night of Impera being released...I've got Watcher in the Sky going and it reminded me of the music videos for Square Hammer and Pinnacle to the Pit

I discovered Ghost a few days ago. I knew there was this band with a singer who looked like a sinister priest but i didn't really notice it was them until now. Always thought they were some over the top black metal band, but man I was so wrong...never expected them to rock this much! Catchy riffs, clever lyrics, and this whole theatrical horror show. Can't stop listening to their music. It's addictive. Help. lol.
