I was a "steward" (medic) as a civil war reenactor. Thats basically all we did was run around and make sure people were hydrated.... that, and try an recruit volunteers to have their legs amputated after the battle.
Interesting that two of the members on the landing craft were authentically wesring the Army (Blue colored) and the Navy (red colored) version of the 1st Engineer Special Brigade!
Scene at 13:54 to about 14: 10 where the GI was slumped over the sand bags...was my "German" position. From that prospective, I was at the left of the Mortar and my Kompanie was to hold at all costs. I could never see from the trench, maybe 2 GIs, but many were attacking. We abandoned that position for the green grass, and I was "wounded" so my guys drug me back, with an enormous effort on their part.
Nice reenactment! I want to do something like this so bad! By the way, I’m in the same Native American tribe as the first known man (who survived to tell the story) on Omaha Beach on June 6th 1944. He was in the 29th infantry division, 116th regiment, 2nd Battalion, Easy Company, 3rd platoon. He and only a couple other soldiers made it off the LCVP before it took a direct hit from an 88. His job was to get the Bangalore to the shingle and make the breach. He served in Normandy at St. Lô, and Brest, Northern France, Rhineland at Aachen and the Hürtgen Forest, the Ardennes at the Battle of the Bulge, back to the Rhineland and in Central Europe. His name was Sergeant William “Bill/Cowboy” Parker. His brother, James Parker, was a tail gunner on a B-17 flying over 50 sorties over Europe.
Came here myself in person, recorded a lot of it. I remember a poor German who had to lay face down in the sand for more than half of the re-enactment.
Awesome. Was it typical muggy ohio heat? I'm dying to come to this one day but I can tell you June 6 1944 in Normandy was not humid and muggy like Ohio is in the summer haha so I think that'd definitely take me out a little bit Might be more accurate heat/humidty for the marines landing on Peleliu instead though haha
@@WorldWarWisdomI know this video was made while a go but I have a question, WHERE DO YOU BUYS A HIGGINS!?, like I understand a hard track or something but a seaworthy landing craft? Please tell me
It looks like this is the one in Conneaut Ohio. If so, the distance from the waterline to the base of the cliff by the park is roughly the same distance. I think Omaha if memory serves. When Band of Brothers all the rage, we went up there to watch a reenactment. They had plenty of GI's of course but few people wanted to portray Germans. But the ones that did were awesome. They posed with Veterans, were taken " hostage " and everyone had a great time.
I would like to see a massive scale super high budget re-enactment of the landings done at the actual Irish coast that Steven Spielberg used to recreate Omaha Beach in Saving Pvt. Ryan.

I wonder if any of these guys heard about a teacher being arrested in the run up to D day and the story behind it and that D day almost didn’t happen because of it. Basically the teacher asked the kids to make a crossword puzzle up and apparently there were words in it that became code words during D day, ie flash thunder Omaha sword Juno Utah. When questioned it turned out the kids heard GIs talking about it but not enough to give anything away.

Alr just wanna say this, making fun of historical re-enactments by saying “only in Ohio” or such isn’t cool. These men, your Grandparents and or your great Grandparents fought for your generation. Without them you would not have the future your in now. If you were put in their shoes you would understand the horrors these hero’s faced, the amount of sacrifices they’ve made. If you think it’s a joke you shouldn’t deserve the things you have today. It’s absolutely ridiculous, grow up for once.
So how do you know if you are “injured” or not? Is it coordinated ahead of time or is there some kinda rules or etiquette to when you get hurt or downed ? Judging from what you said in the little fox hole it seems not many people actually wanna take a hit and be downed which I can understand in a way. Maybe you guys should have people pick straws ahead of the match and a certain % of them have to be downed at some point?
QUESTION: Why did they always say „Clear the Ramp“ like, why do soldiers have to back up from the ramp, it just takes them longer to get out of the boat. Can someone explain?
