We stopped camping for a long time due to back issues. Then a buddy recommended hammocks. We camp as much as possible again! We love our hammocks. There is a learning curve though. I am now teaching my sister in law about camping and trying to convince someone why they need to lay on the diagonal and why they must have an underquilt even in the summer can be a difficult conversation.

When I am around tent campers. And tell them how different the hammock is. But also have them get in it to show the benefits that they make. When I see them the following year. They always will have a hammock. Keep spending the good news, Jill Marie.

I concur with everything said. I sleep almost every night in a hammock. It needs to be long. In the UK, it's really difficult to get a decent length hammock. In a bed, I can only stay in a bed for 3 hours and when I get up, can hardly walk. In a hammock, I can stay in it all day and when I stand up, no aches and pains. It's amazing.
These figures given are a great reference point, thanks..

Hello from Ukraine! Thanks for your "Hammock how to" playlist I improved not only my skills in a hammocking, but my English also :) At some moment I realised that I understand everything you say :)
So, after 3 years of an active use of a hammock, I can say that there is a one thing why I recommend to my friends not to buy a hammocks smaller then 320×200. I found that one of my favourite position in a hammock(not for night sleep, but for a rest in a day) is to lay across it. I'm 165 tall, and it's not possible to make it with the same comfort in a more narrow hammock(mine is "TTTM" Double 320×200). I also have a "Ticket To The Moon" King Size(320×230) and it's much more joyfully to lay across it for me but also this size is only one which gives this amazing feature to my taller friends. So few of them are also have a King Size, which, IMHO, can be perfect for everyone.
Thanks for your videos and best regards!

I always enjoy your videos Marine. I hope you are doing well. In the beginning of the month you ask me if I had any trips planned and I didn't respond. Well, it has been a rough month I had 2 MOHS surgeries, some oral surgery and at the end of April I took a bad fall on the AT. Nothing broken but I got a shiner that still isn't totally healed. Funny thing it was the first time I ever hiked with someone which turned out to be a blessing. I just hit a little toe stubber on a slight downhill and "BAM" I was face down. Well, that is the short version. My dermatologist has cleared me to get back on the trail the second week in June so I am going to go out for a two nighter. Take Care

Sorry to hear that Warren. I am glad that you are healing and will be back on the trail soon. When going down hills on the trail. I really take my time will those hiking sticks out in front. So far I haven't taken a spill. Came close when I was with my son in Nepal. Hiking in the Himalayas. It was raining and the rock stairs the people made there. Where so steep and slippery. If I would of fell. I would have been tumbling down for miles.

Ordered a 12ft Dutch the other day, will be fun to try. My current ones are about 9-10 feet and kinda snug. I’m also 6ft but not very wide. Problem I see with many hammocks is that they are made of several pieces of fabric with an uncomfortable seam.

I like to share the video in some German-speaking bushcraft groups. In the last few days there have been repeated questions about which hammock is good. And far too often, Amazon recommends the € 13-30 hammock. They are just way too small. I feel like Don Quixote when I fight against these crude statements. Hardly anyone asks about the height or weight of the newcomers. Maybe they'll listen to you. 😁

That "small of stature can do small hammock" thing is incorrect, unfortunately, and I'm so thankful that you kind of bust that myth in this video! I'm 5'2 (159 cm) and petite. I thought that since I'm small, I would be more than fine in a DD SuperLight hammock, which is just shy of 9' (2.7 m). I tossed and turned in that thing so much, and could never get 100% comfortable. Then I got an 11' (3.5 m) long hammock with wall-mounts as a replacement for my bed, and it's like I've entered paradise. I'm a snug burrito, and so comfortable that I sometimes really struggle to get up in the morning. The DD hammock is painful in comparison. I really do hope that I'm an irregularity and that most petite people aren't having uncomfortable nights in small hammocks because they assume, and are told by sellers, that it's an appropriate size for them.

What I would do is hang two hammocks side by side. The best way is to do this is to have a set of Dutchware Gear Beetle Buckles suspension that has a hole in the hardware to attach a spedder bar. You would put the spredder bar tips in the beetle buckle at the head end. This way you can have your daughter next to you and both very comfortable. She is ready to sleep in a hammock at 7. But having her next to her will ease her into hammock camping. Which will stay with her for life.

Most 11ft.( and also the 10footers ) hammocks are made with a width of 58 inches. If your hammock is that narrow. Then you would need a wider hammock. If you don't need a bug net. I would recommend the Dutchware Gear 11 ft. Wide Netless Hammock. With the noddy mod. That is the most comfortable hammock in my arsenal. I am also 220lbs 6 ft. That is the hammock that I am always sitting on in the tutorials. Plus, it is wide enough for side sleepers.

I believe a 11footer would be more comfortable. But that doesn't mean a 10 footer might work for you. But if I were you. I would get an 11 foot in length. Thank you for watching.

I am 5'11", 11feet seems fine, but any problem with going with a 12 feet hammock?

The 11ft. is perfect for you. But what is the width? If you have a 58 in. width on your hammock. Then you would want something a little wider for your height.

@@AdventureswiththeMarine found the onewind on amazon (sorry) 11 feet 68inch wide, look really nice with good review. I am in Canada, it's easier this way. Hennesy hammock seem to narrow but they look really nice.

@@Mr.Frenzyguy I am heading on a trip next week to the BWCA. Dream Hammock made me a hammock that is 11 feet and 68 inches wide. I tested it last Saturday in the backyard. It passed the snooze test. Fell asleep for about an hour and a half until the wife yelled at me to be more productive with the yard work. That is the perfect size for you.

Now can you explain the pros and cons of the ENO doublenest which is 9'X6'6"? This is much wider than anything you recommend. ENO markets this a two person hammock. Really?

    • @AdventureswiththeMarine

I bought one when they first came out about 15 years ago. They where better then the single nest. But way too short and wide. It is like being in a soup bowl. There really is no such thing as a double or a two person hammock. ( unless it is a hybrid hammock ). I would have my wife in there with me. After about 5 min. One of us was bailing out. Plus the different color fabric sewn in takes away from the fabric conforming around your body. Leaving no pressure points. With those hems sewn in. Now you have pressure points. The only pro is maybe the price. If you are looking for a great gathered end hammock, at a good price. Check out the Dutchware gear 11 ft. Wide or regular netless hammock. I have the wide that you will see in most of my tutorials. I hope this helps Steven. Thank you for watching.

@@AdventureswiththeMarine @Adventures with the Marine Thanks for the reply. I bought one a couple of years ago after seeing it used by some other youtubers that I respect. It turns out hammocks weren't their strong suit. It being too wide was the first problem I noticed. I'm definitely going to upgrade. This one can be used by my 10 Y.O. son. Your advice is much appreciated. Semper Fi

You should call yourself by your first name... I love your video but introducing yourself as the marine is little overdoing it.

A single nest is just for lounging. 9 foot hammocks are not where it's at
