Thank you for listing the alternatives to an underquilt. Last year I managed to get some overnighters in with temps in the mid 40's . I simply lined my hammock with a polyester blanket and covered myself with a comforter. I generally don't use a tarp unless there's a chance of precipitation. And when I do, I stake one end directly to the ground and let the other side drape over the hammock which greatly reduces the air flow under the hammock. I get decent enough air flow from the openings at either end so condensation isn't a problem. Works great for me. And another tip: If you pitch your tarp the edges angled up you can collect rain water. Oh yeah, don't forget to place containers under driplines! I'd recommend boiling the rain water anyways because it could picked up contaminates on the way down through the forest canopy.
I really recommend the snake skin. They are so great. And more companies are making them. And they are fairly inexpensive. Thank you for watching Yakoob Junior. I really appreciate it. God Bless my friend.
good tips , i am working on a idea for a ridge line thermal reflector . this material is insulated with a mylar reflector built in .. this should store heat with no condensation , for a still space over the hammock. waiting for colder weather for testing.. billy joe
Till I save $ for underquilt, what kind of temps will the foam pad be warm in? Have 35° synthetic bag that I love & trust. Thanks. Your beginner series big help.
The coldest that I have slept with a mat underneath me was around 40 degrees.( 4 Celsius ). Make sure it is wide enough to cover your shoulders. Hammock gear now make a under quilts with duck feathers for around 100 dollars. They are a little heavier than goose. But just as warm.
It is mostly for always giving you the prefect sag in your hammock. Even if you are not at a 30 degree angle. And it will absorb the stress when you are at a lower angle. And also to hang things to dry. I did a video last fall that is called Hammock ridgline. Check it out. I think you will find it interesting. Thank you for watching Luis. I really appreciate it.
I hope it will help you. If you would like more info on hammock camping. I did a series called: HAMMOCKS - The beginners guide. Thank you for watching ShimHD.
