Thanks for gardening with us!
Finally, someone who's actually beginner-friendly! i've watched a bunch of videos and read blogs but they all seem so complicated, whereas you make me feel like i can actually do this! Thank you!!
Glad it was helpful! And that my style resonates with you. Tell me about your garden and what you are growing right now and how that is going, etc? Thank you, and I hope that you have subscribed and clicked on the like button on the videos that you have watched (that helps my channel!). I look forward to hearing from you - CaliKim
@@CaliKim29 Just subscribed as i think your channel will be very useful! i am growing cucumbers and marigolds, and then i have a few pots with herbs in them. Too early to tell how they're doing haha
I totally agree. She made it so simple.
Thank you on all levels!!! I really hope my channel inspires and equips you for gardening!Tell me where you are and what you are growing right now Ariana. Thanks again!! CaliKim
Thank you @lifewithtonya !!! Very encouraging to me!! CK
What a sweet, calm dog. I hope you gave him a treat after the video for being such a good boy!
Agreed😭😭the goodest Dog
I am going to try growing cucumbers in a 5 gallon container.
You're gonna love it, Denise. So easy in any space - let me know how it goes!
I love your straightforward way of explaining things! Now I know exactly what to do to grow cukes in pots, and I'll be doing it tomorrow morning. 👍
I love the positivity!!!! Let me know how it goes!! Kim
I really like her videos the way she talks and describes things and literally got step by step lol I love it hereeee
Well done. Some great tips, especially putting leaf mulch on top to keep the cucumbers from drying out.
Thank you for explaining everything!! You are such a good teacher!
Thanks for sharing your video! Your garden is beautiful. I’m a gardener too and I’m researching all the things I can grow in containers. I’m happy it led me to find you. I’m so happy it did your channel has so much to offer! This is very helpful. Thanks for teaching me something new. I hope we can learn more from each other as we grow our gardens and our channels! 💐🌸🌺🌻
I just found your videos and they were super helpful. I will be growing cucumbers too. I just ordered my smart pots so wish me luck. I will be ordering some seeds as well. And si quite excited to see how this will all turn out as I plan on making use of my huge empty backyard.
Thanks for the tips. I always grew cukes in my garden. This time I will he growing in buckets. This was gery helpful.
I'm so glad i ran across this video, I am wanting to try some container gardening, and cukes and tomatos are a favorite..Thanks Kim
Very cool idea to use the sunflower stems! I will be doing that next year after I get a harvest or two under my belt this year with my Mammoth Sunflowers. I just hope mine grow as tall 👊🏻🌻👊🏻
That's a great idea! Nice and easy does it. Very impressed that you said that! CK
Love the Smart Pots! Most of mine are black, so it's nice to be able to add the colorful ones to my garden.
Thanks Calikim for your incisive video on growing cucumbers in containers. I have been gardening in excess of 40 years and yet I still continue to learn from knowledgeable people like you. Your videos present the quintessential instructions in gardening. Thanks for your knowledgeable presentations/tutorials in gardening. What I do enjoy above all is the many ideas that you suggest to accomplish things employing the most economical methods. Merci bien.
I will surely be growing in containers. You are a God sent🌹 thank you for sharing your knowledge 🙏
Great video, CaliKim29, as always, you keep things clean, organized, economical, simple but effective, very inspiring! Love to see you sharing your gardening ideas, I have used many of them with great success! I'm going to grow cucumbers this year in 5 gallon containers (got some Bush Cucumbers to try that way), and continue growing others in a bigger container that I use. Unfortunately, squirrels invaded my garden last year, and I think they enjoyed more of my cucumbers than I realized ("Why are there so many fewer cukes this year when the plants are doing great!?"). So that's a challenge ... but your video reminded me I need to get busy with my cukes! Love seeing Mac, too, beautiful and oh so dignified
The Pup is a star for sure !!! I love that dog so much- looking side eyed - no direct eye contact lol
This video is helpful. I have some cucumbers in grow bags and was about to purchase trellis but I have a bunch of tree branches laying around that I can use. Yay! I save some money
Thanks for sharing this video!!! I am growing lots of cucumbers in ground and in fabric grow bags.
I just wanna say , your prices are amazing ! Soon I’m gonna make my first purchase of the 3 pots . I’m a nanny , and I’m currently taking care of a 6mo baby girl and her parents and I are gardening !! Her dad just made two beds , one of the lavender is wilted so is the sage , rookie mistakes . I hope to learn 🥹❤️
i love the doggy! such a good pup!🥰
Omg the doggy is soooo sweet
Just harvested my first cucumber, have another one almost ready and a whole bunch of babies 😍 mine is in a 7 gallon container.
Thank you for more great inspiration Kim. I shall be out tomorrow morning seeking some branches. The pot is ready, the seeds are waiting (Spacemaster from your Container Garden collection) I'm feeling insanely hopeful, England has sun, AND heat!!! 😳 Mac looks so handsome and dapper in his checkered neckerchief 🥰
Hi Joanne - amazing how a little sunshine can lift the spirits - have fun looking for your tree branches! Mac says "woof woof, thanks!". Happy planting!
Love your furry gardening companion!🐾♥️
I am using a lot of containers this year. They do better for tomatoes although I have room in ground.
Great tips 👏. I just planted my first cucumbers in a 5 gallon and a 5 gallon bucket so I can compare the 2 🥒
Hi Kim, from Washington State. Love your ideas, and your Pup 🐶 ❤.
Perfect timing.... I was literally gonna plant cucumbers this weekend 🤘🤘
Perfect - have fun planting your cucumbers! Let me know how it goes! - thanks for watching!
I am from California and your yard reminds me of the fall room area. I was in the valley center area. Between Escondido and y
Temecula: we are now goin on a year of living In AZ now we have 100 temps from here on out. Thanks for letting me know about the shade!
So so excited to try this this year! My first apartment with a balcony
HOW EXCITING!!! So happy for you! This'll be nice and will add natural colors to your balcony! Are you on Insta' ? If so, tag me on post of your balcony! Kim
Thank you for this detailed how to. I saved my sunflower stalks and wasnt sure how to go about it. Now i feel confident to give it a try. Thank you for nice paced thorough instruction.
Glad it was helpful! I so appreciate your appreciation of the edit of this video! I'll pass that on to CameraGuy *husband, videographer/editor. Let me know how your project went! CaliKIm
You are such a smart gardener. So much energy!! Love your channel
Thanks for your kind words - I appreciate your support. Enjoy your weekend!
Excellent reminder about the upcoming heat wave and shade cloth. Thanks
Glad it was helpful, Klaus! Stay cool and good luck to your veggies!
Helpful video, now I know I can use a 5 gallon container for cucumbers :). I do the same thing but with crape myrtle tree branches.
Thanks Kim for the inspiration! Beautiful garden.
You are so welcome - thanks for watching!
Thanks for the info regarding planting cucumbers and making tomato cages
My pleasure - happy planting, Peter!
all looking lovely there
Ty for this! I have a whole 5 gallon bag of like 15 cucumber plants I didn't realize were going to grow so fast and need to be repotted this week, all this advice will be used 🥰
Glad it was helpful, NamiNaeko - you're gonna have some nice cukes! Since your seedlings are all in one 5 gallon pot - take care when you repot them to disturb the roots as little as possible, as they don't like their roots disturbed. You might want to use a spoon to lift them out and place them in a new container where they have more space. Thanks for stopping by!
@@CaliKim29 ty for the tip! They are leafing so large this week you can barely see the soil anymore so I can tell it's time to pot them in their permeant homes ❤️ I ordered a pack of plant stakes to make them trellis like yours since we don't have many fallen branches this time of year
Thanks Kim. Once again a great, timely video. I'm just about to sow more cucumber seeds.
Hi SisterMarcel - Love when it works out this way - keep me posted! Appreciate your stopping by!
I love your dog who is also interested in what you are saying. He s cute and a good doggie ❤
Thanks, Linda, he truly enjoys being next to me out there - and sometimes not! Kim
Absolutely gorgeous
Nice video I am buying smart pot this video is very helpful for me to grow cucumbers. Thanks
So grateful for your videos !
Love your videos, Thank you for the good information.
Hello Kim & Camera Guy (Jerry)! 🖐 Great video and tips! 👏 Just planted more cucumber seeds in 5+ gallon containers with Sumter pickling cucumbers this morning. I already have Marketmore coming up! Placed bamboo stakes inside to create a teepee like you did! Thanks for the shade cloth tip!👍 Currently, 95 degrees and very humid in Indiana zone 5!
Stay blessed and safe! 🦋6/12/2021🦋
Hey Barb - way to get those cukes planted, bet you can't wait to eat your own, so tasty! Stay cool, enjoy your weekend!
Just ordered. Thanks for the info. My cucumber died twice, now I know why, I am also in California, but knowledge is power👍🏾😩
I will definitely give this a try…thank you for posting it 👍👏🤞
That’s great Barbara - keep us posted, ok!? Start small and simple!
Nice tips on growing cucumbers
I’ve got my spacemaster cucumbers planted, but so far they have been the trouble plants of the season. Last year was squash. I suppose that is just how it goes. I’ve got more started to keep trying, so we’ll see.
I am new to your channel & in the learning phase of gardening. Thank you! These are very helpful!
Hi Beth - welcome! Way to get your garden started! Glad you're digging in and learning as you grow. Keep me posted on your garden - thanks so much for the visit!
Thank you! My mother got sick and my whole garden was sacrificed, but I am back on board. Hopefully, I can get time to watch more of your channel in the future! @@CaliKim29
I am about to plant 2 sweet red peppers in the grow bags I got in the spring. 1st attempt 🤞
Also have my Parris Island Romaine that will be the end till late summer for fall planting. My bush beans are growing strong with multiple plantings.
Cukes and Malabar spinach will be new for next year 🌱
Absolutely love your channel❤️
How did it turn out?
Just subscribed I wanna start a container garden. Thank you for the video
Thanks you, looking forward to trying this, from Florida,
The dog is soo cute and the vídeo gave me good ideas With things i already had around my house and never thought of
FANTASTIC - I LOVE it when that happens, Jennifer! Yes, Mac is a cutie...he's getting up there and turns 13 next month. Thank you for watching and commenting. You are a subscriber to my channel, aren't you (I can't always tell). Feel like I've seen your name before! Thank you!! CaliKIm
Very informative information, also I love your dog
Love all your info. Thank you!
Your dog expression is so cute
Brilliant mulch idea. Thank you!!
So nice of you - you are welcome. Thank you for commenting!
Thank you for sharing love your videos ☺️
Ma'am you're smart, I never thought to use tree branches like that
This video was helpful to me. Thanks
Your cute doggie does not seem to be all that interested in gardening but at least he is there and paying some attention.
Really classy dog indeed!🐶👍🧣👽
Hi Marvin, somehow he seems to know when the camera comes out and just wants to hang out with us in the garden. Thanks for watching and good luck with your cukes!
Great tips! Thank you!🥒🥒
Thank you CaliKim! We liked your video!
Thank you too
great stuff CaliKim!
Glad you liked it, thanks for the visit, Sam!
Thanks for the info on growing cucumbers. I have harvested four cucumbers eight inches long. They were very good and juicy. My only problem was that I didn’t install a trellises at the beginning of growth. I got some good information on how to grow cucumbers. Thanks.
Hi FireWind - so rewarding to harvest your own fresh cucumbers! Glad you enjoyed the video - now you have a good option for an easy trellis for a new crop. Enjoy your Sunday and thanks so much for stopping by!
Wonderful video love your doggie thank you
Your cucumber short but set flower, trellis use tree branch it free and save money , thanks for sharing gardening tips to us informative and educational , thumb up for you CaliKim
Hi Garden Ideas - glad you enjoyed the cucumber tips. The tree branch trellis is one of my favs. Thanks for the feedback and for stopping by!
@@CaliKim29 Thanks so much CaliKim
Thank you so much you are a wonderful teacher
Thank you! Kim
Yes!
Cheers Kim x
Although this question is not cucumber specific, I’m wondering if you will do any garden to table type videos this summer? I always enjoy them 😊🥒
We'll try to fit a few in - glad you enjoy them!
Thank you for sharing.
Thank YOU, for watching - CK
Thanks for the helpful video. I live on the coastside in the bay area and I planted two cuc’s in containers which I hope will give me some fruits😊. Can I use twine to tie the stems? I used tomato cages as support. Should I incorporate bamboo stakes within the cages? Thanks!
Hey CaliKim love your videos! Tons of info for amateur gardening. I planted cucumbers from seed and transplanted to containers, and they are growing like a wild fire, but I was told to pinch of the first few flowers to help the plant grow bigger??? Can you help with this issue. 😮😊🥒🥒🥒🥒
I always enjoy your videos. So informative with lots of great growing tips! What is the variety of the cherry tomato that was behind you in the video?
Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it, Sharon! That's my fav dwarf tomato, Tiny Tim. There's probably over 100 tomatoes on that plant - it's just amazing! Seeds are in my Container Garden Seed Collection if you're interested. Enjoy growing your cukes and thanks for stopping by!
Thank you😊
Great video. Love me some Mac
Hi Tom - he was in top form in this video - gotta love the side eye, lol. Thanks for the visit - enjoy your weekend!
Do you always add the Good Dirt plant food to your vermisterra tea? I've been using the vermisterra tea by itself and am wondering if I should be adding the plant food. Thanks Kim 🙂
The dog chilling
...chillin' like a villan......HA HA.
I hope my cucumbers will do better in containers than they did last year in the ground. And I love your haircut btw! I am always trying to describe something like that to my hairdressers, but none of them gets it. No one length cut, but also no big choppy layers, more like a fluent reverse graduation, although I am not sure if that is how your look was achieved. Did they bring the hair forward, upward and across your face to the opposite side when cutting it, do you remember?
Everything is AMAZING but I just wanted to share that the cucumber is in fact, a fruit, the one with the highest water content. This beauty is a fruit 😊
Yes !! Noted!! Thanks - Kim
Great video
Thanks for the visit
Thanks for the tips. We are averaging about 108 in Arizona. What is the best mulch to get from home Depot or Lowe's. We don't have trees only cactus. I've gotten them to sprout but they look so sad.
I'm growing Beit Alpha Cucumbers in a container this year. Didn't want to grow that variety with my other cucs
2 questions: First, how much water do you give the plants daily that are in 5-gallon buckets? Secondly, do you manually pollinate any of your cucumber flowers? All of our honeybees are gone so next year I will put up Mason bee nests or my plants won't get pollinated.
I have no luck with my cucumbers. I tried several varieties, they produced 95% male flowers. The few female flowers I hand pollinated, but the cucumbers dried up. From 3 plants I had only 2 cucumbers so far. I discarded the plants and used my balcony space for some other plants. I ordered your heat loving package and looking forward to plant some.
Maybe try the Beit Alpha variety! That is supposed to be very productive
Just subscribed. I just got food grade 5 gallon buckets, potting soil and drilled holes in the bottom of the pales. I have way too many deer to plant in the ground.
First, welcome to the channel ! I hope that you are enjoying and learning from the videos and other gardeners comments, as well.
I also livestream every Monday 12pm PT (except holidays) with playback, too. We’ve been doing so 6-7 years now and has great sense of community and support from other gardeners all over the world. Hope to see you there !
Tell me where you are gardening what you are growing ! Welcome - CaliKim
@@CaliKim29 Is it OK to put earth worms in the bucket and feed them with tiny amounts of kitchen scraps? Do the worms eat the roots?
es, it's generally fine to add earthworms to a bucket or container for composting purposes. Earthworms are excellent decomposers and can help break down kitchen scraps into nutrient-rich compost. They don't typically eat live plant roots; instead, they feed on decaying organic matter, such as kitchen scraps, leaves, and other plant material. CK
I have a container cucumber plant that have been growing for about 4 weeks now. Its growing very well. Can I still add a trellis or is it too late.
I just got done watching your container video on tomatoes. Do they also need the “mulch” on top like you did here? I love your page! It’s helping me a lot!
Yes you do Mulch always helps to retain moisture and protect from extreme tempatures.
So GLAD to hear the that you are enjoying the content and that it's helpful!!! Sorry for delay....heck of a week. CK
Thank you!! ❤
Love your video great information. I have had problems in the past with birds digging holes in the soil of my container plants. They also tear apart the roots. Any suggestions for how to keep them out.?
I use shade cloth also, as a deterrent to keep pesky flying critters out!!! What do you think of that plan, Jassmine? CK
Is this an heirloom or hybrid seed?
I was trying to find a video like this from you this morning and I’m so happy to see this one now! I have a patio variety in a 5 gallon grow bag. Do you think I should put it in a 7 gallon just in case?
Hi Joyce, glad the timing worked out! A patio variety should be just fine in a 5 gallon grow bag - you should have some to harvest before you know it! Enjoy!
Daft question but what does the xoxo mean as I've seen it in front of lots of names. Is it just hugs & kisses?
What did i do wrong? 2 yrs ago I tried growing them. The plant itself got HUGE, vines everywhere but only a few cucumbers grew. Some rotted b4 they were ready. Helplp cucumbers are my favorite and would love to try again
Красивые у Вас палки 🥰
Once those begin to grow do you take two of them and repot them or leave all three in the same container?
Question, I may have missed the answers so please forgive me.
Are all three going to grow in that container? I have scored a lot of buckets and am wanting to utilise space most effectively etc.
For that stretchy tape (or any rope etc) how tight are we to make it so it doesnt hurt the plant? Mine have slipped down the poles a few times
