Cucumber trellis: bit.ly/3ev6txH Growing cucumbers in containers is pretty easy once you know how these prolific plants work! Variety selection is important here, so decide if you want a pickling or slicing variety, and then if you want a bush or vining type, as that will inform how you support the plant. I encourage you to read further for my in-depth growing cucumbers guides linked below as well!

Cucumber peelings have massive cucumber flavor. I know a lot of people peel the skin off and just compost it. Home grown (non waxed) cuke skins make great cucumber water. Before you Chuck them in your compost pile, put them in a pitcher, add a few torn mint leaves if you have them, cover with water and set in the fridge for like half a day. It's amazingly refreshing after an afternoon of weeding. 😀

Yes!! When my current neighbors were looking at the house across from mine last year, I was harvesting a TON of cukes. It was like they had all come in at once. The guy was like....dude, that is a massive cucumber! Lol!! I just laughed and waved, but took great pride in my massive cuke. Lol! I love making lime pickles. They sound gross, but they are THE BEST! I actually used my grandmother's pickling crocks to make them last year! They tasted just like hers. I was so proud! ❤🙂👍

My garden is set for this season, but I had to share this story.
2013 we had moved to Georgia from Arizona. I was and still to this day ALWAYS blown away by the beautiful foliage and atmosphere here.
I planted my very first "garden" all five gallon buckets and over two dozen of them.
Yeah, my exuberant appetite to become a gardener overwhelmed my common sense. I planted a number of things, most didn't work because I was so new, I had no idea what I was doing.
    But the cucumbers.
    SWEET BABY JESUS...
I couldn't keep up with them! I was coming out every day to dozens of cucumbers, but because I couldn't keep up, I was getting cucumbers that were overgrown to the size of FOOTBALLS! No joke.
Huge, swollen monstrosities the size of a small dog.
Next season I will be planting them again but shall we say....with a great deal more knowledge and a LOT more restraint. 🤣
Love your channel so much and I spend hours making notes. There may be hope yet for me!😁

I started my first garden this year. I planted a bunch of seeds. Some of the seeds were out of date so I over seeded for the best odds most took….but the cucumbers! The space master cucumbers just shot up and I have nearly 40 individual cucumbers plants. I think I’m gonna roll with the chaos to see how well they all do 😂😂
Family and local Food pantries will be happy 😆

Hi, Kevin. I just wanted to tell you once more how much I appreciate your videos. I follow a very select few gardening vloggers (you, Harvey Ussery, Doug and Stacy, and Self Sufficient Me) who know what they are talking about and communicate it well. When I watch yours, I feel like I am back in college because of your well researched and well presented information. I very much appreciate your educated usage of the English language (it is sometimes hard to take seriously a vlogger who butchers the English language). You make me feel like you have done your homework and you present the information in a manner that is so easy to follow. I am an education junkie, and I consider you one of the finest educators I have had the honor of studying under.

Cucumbers dont like their roots disturbed so the best way is to start them in a biodegradable pot that can be directly planted in the ground. But if this is not the case be sure to keep as much of the dirt around the roots to stay intact.

It seems like every day you're answering another of my questions!
After not gardening since I was a kid, I went full blown container garden for my 'Pandemic Patch' because the amount of work needed to get my soil ready for planting would have been monumental (actually it's just dirt, soil would be too kind a description for the stuff under my feet). I'm trying to focus on one or two topics a day to avoid being overwhelmed or falling down the UA-cam rabbit hole. Today's topic is "How do I trellis cucumbers and zucchini?". Thanks for making it a "one stop shopping" experience!

The diluted milk works a treat on powdery mildew. First time I had it was this year. Removed the few worst leaves, sprayed the rest. Took two applications about five days apart. The PM was not on the cucumbers though, but on the pumpkin and cantaloupe. The cucumbers were basically finished by that time.
I grow mine hydroponically, and they tasted perfect (kratky method). They also grew HUGE. I actually had way too many cucumbers, and the chickens got a fair bit esp during the hot days (good water content).
Anyway, they are super easy to grow. Trellis is the main thing, I happened to have very wide mesh, and used that.

I recently discovered grow bags and bought and received 10 - 3 gallons each of them. I really love the air pruning concept, growing style which they say makes stronger, non-circling roots. Then I stalled. What are some of the best ways to put drainage and soil and ? in these to help grow bags cultivate the best? Thanks, Lee

Cucumbers were my first too...this year! We've been suffering a 100F+ heatwave for 2 months and its taken its toll. I got 3 lovely salad cucs but then the plants started wilting away. My pickling cucs are surviving better but although 7 feet tall are not bearing much fruit (yet?). I'm learning and loving it, thanks to vids like yours. :)

This is the second year I've tried growing cucumbers in containers and I'm not having much luck, except for my cucamelons. I've noticed on all my other cucumber plants, squash plants and melon plant that there's only male flowers. They have regular water and I'm doing a foliar feed. Last year I had a good squash yield, this year nothing. However, even though I planted when I was supposed to, our weather has been weird. We've had hail three times since May 19th. So my plants took a beating. Gonna try to start over, see if I have time before the season is over. Thanks so much for your tips. Your channel is one of my favs.

I got one lemon cucumber from my plant last year- the only cucumber I successfully raised. I enjoyed it, too, just a pleasant, refreshing mild lemony flavor that was nice on a hot summer day. This video is helpful- I'm trying to grow several cucumber plants this year, we'll see if I can do better than one fruit, lol.

@@Jamberlyn I so hope you get loads more than one fruit! I love how you described the loveliness of your one cucumber. I'm new to gardening and I"m trying to grow these as well. The only reason I even new about and got to taste one is because a coworker grew them and brought them to work. This was a few years ago and I've been craving one ever since.

Hi! Your channel is what made me start gardening on my backyard. It's especially therapeutic during this WFH period. I sowed seeds in containers and they just started sprouting. However, my friend said hydroponics are easier, better tasting and less prone to diseases though? You mentioned in earlier video that you moved on from hydroponics to soil gardening, so I'm guessing your current gardening method is better for you? Lovin' your videos, btw!

I had some persian cucumbers come in a box meal set, and I decided to grow them. WAY late in the season, but they are growing nicely, keeping to the ~4 ft range with how I have them now. They are also very delicious, I cant wait for harvest.
