Good old needle gun. Spent my first year in the Navy perfecting my technique. Saw a guy fall asleep running one once, left him there for about ten minutes! That build is going to be sweet!
doing a restore on my 1977 series 3 landrover shortly, not putting a different engine in but still finding the task daunting, don't really have a lot of room in my garage so big chunks of work have to be done outdoors, not very motivated lol, but i can sit here for hours watching other people doing the same thing. :)
The outside work can put a damper on motivation depending on the climate. Good luck with the restore on yours. When you are blowing them apart they do seem to take up an unread amount of room.
Can't do that , I'm doing mine grey underneath too 😄. I've just spent a couple of days with a needlegun and wirewheel doing my rear axle , taking ages to do paint as it's a very cold workshop. Can't wait to see your Defender come together .
You're tempting me to go out and buy an old Defender and immediately get into trouble trying to restore it. I was looking at the GM Cruise & Connect packages and I'd probably go for the 350 High Output with about a hundred less horsepower than the LS-3. Really nice work on the axles.
I know this is a pretty late comment for the efforts you are putting to get off the rust from those axles but as they say it's never late to learn something since i learn this pretty recently. If the part you are trying to un-rust is not holding any parts sensitive to heat or itself is not heat sensitive and if you can make them red-hot and cool down all of the rust flakes off like a dead skin and leave the metal pure clean. I was pretty surprised fist time i saw the result. This maybe help to your present/future projects 😊
I'll have to give that a shot on something in the future. I've had paint and powder baked off parts before but have never tried for rust myself. Appreciate that insight!
I got the kit from Lucky8llc.com This set of axles is actually from a Discovery 1, but as long as you have 24 spline shafts in your Defender the kit is the same.
Nice vids, I like your restoration I am about to do my 90, it needs a new bulkhead, so might as well do a ground up rebuild & a sweet 300bhp+ engine swap at the same time. But I wish you could organise your vids better so you could watch them in sequence ie a Link to the next vid in the series its painful to try & find the next one
Appreciate that. Have fun with your restoration as well, these are fun to play with the way they are built. Maybe I’ll go through and set up the links to the next in each video. But if you click on the Defender playlist it should run them all in order for you for the time being. Appreciate you watching and the feedback.
@@LostCauseRanch Thanks for a quick reply & especially at this time, u must be burning the candle at both ends lol I wish I could vid & edit like you for my project

I imagine the Navy jobs were a bit bigger than this, I enjoy small needling jobs here and there. Somewhat satisfying.

That’s going to be a show piece, well done 👍🏻.
I think it should end up pretty nice. Thanks!

Great minds think alike haha.
The needling is fun isn’t it?

I feel like he's about to sell me a Sham-Wow.
I enjoy your channel, I have a quick question, did you say that you can just remove the ABS ring on the axles for your defender swap?
Where did you source the chromoly axles, and do they fit straight into standard defender axle housings and hubs?
