Absolutely do the side quests in this game. They provide excellent lore, backstory, and character moments. Many of the best ones are not far off the beaten path
I didn’t even realize I was doing the side quests in this game, they all felt so natural. Seamless perfection imo. This game omg favorite game of all time.
I praise Oak & Answer’s patience for not screaming “Block” every 30 seconds in that opener! The polite, it’s sure giving you a lot of yellow circles, was amazingly passive aggressive!
I tried to tell them at the end of last game(I'm sure my comment was lost in the hundreds of comments.) That the Valkyries would be good practice if not for anything other than combat practice as they make you use all your *knowledge* and Mason's style wouldn't beat them. You can't just TANK through them you'll HAVE to use the block/shield, if you remember his turn vs Baldur it's why he couldn't beat him because Baldur has that punch move that he spams and shield block is the ONLY move you're supposed to use against it. You can't evade it nor can you punch him before he it's you(well you can but he still progresses with the move) and since Mason was refusing to use the shield whatsoever he wasn't going to be able to get around that move. This game doubles down, I made my own comment about hopefully they'll see it, but even the minions have Yellow/Blue ring attacks that's specifically tailored for you to use the shield, just like they made it to where you won't only just use your favorite weapon if you've played you know why, I won't say specifics. Hopefully they'll see soon enough shield is wayyy more imperative this time around or we'll be in for a looong ride😂😂 I don't think they even acknowledged when the tutorial was telling them about "parrying"
1:04:05 God, the way Odin clunks that mug down in front of Thor like “yeah I just insulted your dead sons, drink until you feel better you worthless sack of crap” after Thor does that whole sobriety ritual is wild. Odin is a horrible person.
so fun fact: Faye or Laufey, Kratos' wife is voiced by Deborah Ann Woll, she's known for playing Jessica Hamby in True Blood drama series and Karen Page in the Marvel series, Daredevil, The Defenders, The Punisher and Daredevil: Born Again Thor is Voiced By Ryan Hurst, you know him as Beta in the Walking Dead and he was Opie Winston in Sons of Anarchy. One of the best intros in gaming jn my opinion. Also in regards to side content you guys should fight the Valkyrie’s in the first game. Gives lore to the game and it’s dlc.. also has the games best fights
The side quests feel pretty essential to the experience and the story in this game. Really glad you guys are planning to do them all this time, I’m sure you won’t regret it.

It's absolutely the right call that you guys are going to do the side questy stuff! So glad you're going to jump into them because this game has some of the best side quests ever.
You guys are getting better and better playing this game, wonderful job and the story of GOW Ragnarok is much more immersive. A lot of important dialogue can be found in the side quests. Also meeting Faye is so amazing. Wonderful job guys!
God of War is my favorite video game series (all of them excluding Betrayal) and I'm glad you made it to Ragnarok. As always I appreciate the content and your thoughts BM, great playthrough 👍
Keep in mind that you are still in the VERY EARLY stages of the game, so the fights are going to be easy because they are meant to train you, not really challenge you, so blocking is important, going through this game without learning how to block or without blocking at all is intentionally handicapping yourself, it's like what people would do if they were doing a challenge run of the game. I know Kratos is a god and some mere mortals shouldn't be able to kill him this easily, but this is where the gameplay aspect comes in, they don't want you to feel invincible because then the game wouldn't be challenging, so enemies do plenty of damage and blocking is what they give you to deal with it.
Just got done watching the episode, lads. Great to see you jumping right back in! 1. As I said in a previous comment - really happy to hear that you guys will be opening up to the side quests in this game. 2018 had some good side content, but this game in particular has side quests that you DO NOT want to miss. It's not content that just expands the lore of the world. Rather, it builds on a lot of the relationships of our main characters and gives some insight into who they were before, or how they are feeling at this point in the story, and more. The next episode will be your first chance to explore some side quests, so I look forward to seeing it. Take your time with this game. There is no need to rush through to the end 😊 2. Oak, you were correct with one of your choices on Thor's VA. It is indeed Ryan Hurst (Sons of Anarchy, The Walking Dead). He's brilliant in this role! I'll let you guys try to work out the other VA's for our other new characters to come (incl. Odin).
Hey guys I'm only at 25:39 so idk if you mess with Accessibility settings after this but there's some good settings I think will help you guy's because I seen you had a little trouble with in the last game(so did I) but you can turn on "Auto-pickup" and Kratos will automatically pick up items by just standing over them. I remember you guys had a couple deaths during battles last game when trying to pick up a health stone. It helped me tremendously! And when you defeat bosses who drop like 8 items you don't have to press O 8x, just standing on them Kratos will pick them all up it cuts down on time to press O during battle to pickup a health/rage stone. You can also auto-mantle so Kratos will automatically jump over objects in his path, you can mess with colors as well(especially if any of you happen to be colorblind, I follow a gamer who is gave him the same info) but even if you're not you can change it to help make finding some things easier. You can make Dock flags, breakable objects, and several other different things a number of colors you can choose from so you won't have trouble finding them. Play around with them at least I'd almost guarantee you all would find something helpful, and the auto-pickup hands down is the best feature I wish it was in the 1st game as well. Edit: I just got to where it told you how to sprint, and even that can be changed in accessibility settings😂 you can make to where Kratos auto runs so there's no need to ever "click L3" he's just running anytime you move. I'm telling you the functions are almost minor cheat codes this game I LOVED them!!
ooooh I'm LOVING the new camera set up! think I like these better than the circles, nice work Diamond Dave! 😃& wow hitting us with the feels straight away with Fenrir 😢great hack n' slash skills there Quinn during your turn! I bet ya must of played quite alot of hack N' slash games back in the day! **sees bear** "is it Oak going into a cabin?" haha & liked the banter between Quinn & Oak about the runics/blocking/shield etc "runics are kinda like cheating like deadeye" "alright shields broken who needs that anyway" hehe & liking the story so far, awesome fight scene there between Kratos & Thor, great stuff as always BM! & can't wait for more! 😊💚❤
They might be a bit more stingy, but you're also breaking the wrong items. You passed by a lot of urns and only broke the other objects. The urns give healthstones/ragestones/hacksilver. The buckets and random crates give nothing.
Don't forget to click the right stick (R3) to lock on to enemies. This way you won't have to manually move your right stick to keep them in front of you. This can also really help when throwing the axe.
The side quests are extremely important to the story in this game.(And a lot of games) Try to think of them as sub-story missions that you do between the primary story missions. They are often just as fleshed out and lore filled as the primary missions.
Kratos outfit at the intro is awesome 😎 50:06 👀 no you don't want that 1:04:43 Hi guys, believe it or not the depiction of Thor and Odin are accurate based on the mythical description. Thor is massive and Odin is more like magician
A greiving mother hel bent on revenge. The death of a dog. Almost killing your son lost in an animal transformation. Strongman Thor and Mob Boss Odin played by the incomparable Richard Schiff. Welcome to Ragnarok, fellas! You're in for a ride
Since you wanna do most if not all the side stuff I gotta warn you guys, there are secret bosses towards the 2nd half of the game and those shits are HARD, there are people who have been playing games like this for years and years and even they struggle to get through some those side bosses so I'm sure nobody would hold it against you if you skipped some of them if they get too frustrating Also Mason Quinn HAS to learn how to parry if he wants to have any hope with some of these bosses, it's a very essential mechanic and he will make his life substantially harder if he keeps avoiding it Also remember to lock on to enemies with R3, makes fights like the Thor fight wayyy easier
1:07:42 That's Tyr's Temple, just below the realm travel room. In the previous game, right after flipping the entire room near the end of the game, Mimir makes comments about those warrior statues there. They then go up to the surface of Tyr's Bridge, outside.
Ragnarok is finally here! I'm glad you guys are gonna do more side stuff in this game. You really miss out on a lotta good content when you don't do it. Not only is the side stuff fun to do, but it adds more story and lore to the characters. An important thing to note when doing side missions and exploring, when a character in the game asks you if you want to explore, or hints at doing a side mission, that's the games way of telling you to pause from doing the main quest and go explore. They did it in the last game too but you guys kinda ignored it and stuck to the story. Brok and Sindri also had side quests for you to do at the shop but you guys never tracked the mission down. Some side stuff will be obvious and pop up, but some stuff you won't find unless you come across it by exploring. So you have to get out there and just do stuff. No waiting for it to pop up. If you want to make it easier on yourself, then just dedicate every other couple episodes to mostly doing exploring and side missions. A couple tips to know starting out is to learn and become proficient at using your triangle attacks (Hold triangle to charge up the axe/tap triangle fast to charge up the blades) and work on your parrying. This game punishes you more if you don't parry or mess up a parry. And sometimes in this game, you WILL have to block or parry. So unfortunately, for some people, that means you gotta actually use your shield.😂 Your triangle attacks work really well and do a lotta damage once you learn how to use them well in a fight. Also, your death from above attack is pretty easy to do once you learn it. All you have to do is sprint off a ledge, and once in the air, press the attack button. But you have to actually wait until you're in the air. Don't press the attack button before you jump off the edge or it won't work. And lastly, this might be the most important thing you guys need to work on, and that's paying attention to enemy attack patterns. Learn your enemies attacks. All enemies have telltale signs they do when they're about to do a specific attack. It'll help you guys out in the long run. You never encountered the Valkyries in the last game so you didn't have to fight anything too hard, but you probably will something hard in this game since you're gonna be exploring more and there's more enemies. 32:23 You could always evade while recalling the axe. Even in the last game.
I believe I’m with the boys on this one. TAKE, YOUR, TIME. Embrace everything and experience everything. We all will be waiting for the next vids to drop. No rush
The way they portrayed Odin is very interesting. He’s like a pragmatic, ruthless CEO. Very different from actual Viking mythology, but still fun to watch.
49:15 I like that as Atreus has gotten older he’s in a healthier position to argue with his dad . It was a lot like that with me and my dad . Steadily and progressively we began seeing each other on an even playing field the older I got . Don’t get me wrong I stoll behave like he’s an authority figure but that’s mostly for setting an example for my younger siblings
Destroy enemy shield with double press the block button. Press R3 button to lock on enemy. Hold block and press down on the D-pad button to turn around 180.
@guskinmaypho174 lol yea because it's a simple one to follow mash the buttons that pop up, but you do see your health going down if you are laxed on pressing them.
Hello guys, it's a pleasure and I think it excites everyone to see that now you begin the story of Kratos and Atreus towards Ragnarok. The only thing I want to comment is that please give the secondary content of the game a chance 🎮, the last installment (2018) had more to offer in dialogues, character stories and missions but it seems that you were in a hurry to finish.
hey guys just to say theres a balance to be struck. its definitely good to do some, a healthy amount, of side quests, alot of it is fun. but you shouldnt feel like you need to 100% or do EVERYTHING, that is a lot and i think you guys are like me that you want to know what happens next in the story! so in other words, dont feel bad about following main quest at certain points if thats what you are enjoying! it definitely isnt necessary to do all the side stuff and optional bosses and zones, you will be strong enough only doing some. anyway enjoy the playthru fellas !! 💪🏼
Kratos' NO in 50:00 is really powerful. The reason his wife and daughter got slaughter by his own hands was because of the th8ng Atreus asked him to do
The developers ‘key’ detail is Odin asking kratos to “kick up his feet” his is essentially saying to outlive them cause KRATOS can only die in battle he will essentially live forever
Atreus annoyingly saying "You've already taught me discipline!" As he just uncontrollably tried to kill his father as a bear and almost got killed by Kratos because of it. Is peak angsty teenager who let's what their parents say go in 1 ear and out the other.
Tell me you didn't pay attention without telling me, lol. Atreus has discipline, him turning into a bear and attacking Kratos wasn't in his control, the bear charged at him, he was scared, and his emotions transformed him, it has nothing to do with discipline. Kratos or him didn’t knew he could do that, as they don't know the reach of his abilities, so again, it has nothing to do with discipline, just emotions, spoilers...just like when Angrboda shows him his future and he gets mad and transforms into a wolf. More spoilers. Him disobeying and looking for Tyr, now that is him breaking his discipline, still, he did it for a good reason, and he is a big reason as to why they survived Ragnarok, so his disobeying was important.
Hahaha! Well.. I hope they will get used to using both sticks at the same time at least, during this playthrough. It's painful to see them walk, then stop walking to turn the camera as if they can't do both at once. 😂 Fun to watch them regardless though!
Dying during the first five minutes of the tutorial portion is so on-brand for Mason Quinn💀 Edit: Oak saying quick turn only came later in the first game just bc they never used it is SO Badd Medicine Arcade😭 IT'S L1 + Down on the D-pad!!
Yellow rings CAN be blocked, but they will stagger you after you block them, however you can parry yellow rings with no penalty, so parrying is the most optimal thing to do with them, BUT the easiest thing to do is to dodge them just like red rings. Parrying is very satisfying in this game and if you get good at it, it essentially enables you to constantly do damage while protecting yourself, but it isn't for everyone. The best advice I can give for being good at parrying is wait for the enemy's wind up (this is your hint that attack is comming), but do NOT block until after they start to throw their punch/attack, and as soon as they do if you block you will end up parrying.
Also, just an FYI, this game's story and dialogue assumes you did all of the side stuff in the earlier game, so you will often hear them mention Valkyries as if you already fought ALL of them, for example.
Many people do...the game isn't very good at point the button to be pushed clearly in that fight...the snow and the makes it hard to see...once you see it, it's very easy to do it, but if you can't see it clearly or in time, you die...
After all the drama and tears shed yesterday in the twd finale, it's time to get the adrenaline pumping again with Ragnarok and that Thor fight!!! Just before God of War 2018 came out, I was studying Norse mythology and I got really obsessed with it. By the time this game came out, I was so immerse in this mythology that every single little hint had me like DiCaprio as Rick Dalton. And btw, the symbol on this one and 2018 is not the Omega from the Greek alphabet, is the world serpent biting its own tail. In 2018 the runes were the realms, but in this one, they spell Ragnarök. I have the symbol tattooed🤫
Don’t know if anyone’s mentioned it yet but the introduction of Thor is a hidden cutscene at the end of the first game, if you go back to the cabin I always thought that the guy who voices Thor sounds a lot like John Goodman
CANT WAIT! But I highly recommend you guys investing into an HDR monitor or TV. Only because a lot of these story mode games would look even more realistic, and I catching in standard range color!
God of War (2018) was one of my all time favorite games, unfortunately I wasn't able to play Ragnarok due to console issues and PC restrictions, so my first time experiencing this game will be with you guys. I've waited 2 years for this and thankfully still haven't been spoiled at all yet! LETS GOOOO!
Take you time we YEs have a LIST for you guys to play , That don't mean for you guys to rush the gameplay , ENJOY it it's an escape. a way to enjoy and immerser yourself in a Story of Kratos an his legacy
A secret to using block / parry gents: block right when the opponent's weapon passes their shoulder. Doesn't matter what enemy, what weapon. As soon as it reaches the shoulder when they're attacking, block and you'll be able to parry & stun them for a moment.
tip: please read the codex , especially when you guys miss to prompt to read it when new information (allies, enemies, lore, and etc) pops up. It will help you a lot, with understanding the story and how to beat enemies. Also it gives you the opportunity to specifically target side quests & challenges that will give you XP & other good loot. (And by specifically target, i mean you guys consciously choosing to complete challenges, exploring, or do more side quests instead of immediately completing the main story. Final tip: Mason Quinn please block and parry more 😂! I honestly believe with your aggressive approach - you would probably be the more effective player in some of the major fights and wouldn’t die as much.
Little heads up for the finishers, they've added a lot more here in Ragnarok. For most smaller enemies the finishers vary depending on which weapon you have equipped and per weapon (at least for the fodder enemies) there are like 3-4 different finishers so it doesn't get as repetitive as in GOW 2018
When I saw that dog sled in the trailer for the game, I started referring to the two wolves as "Cry" and "Havoc." I know that we got their real names in the game, but the nicknames kind of stuck with a couple of my friends and myself. Cry and Havoc as in, "Cry Havoc and let slip the Dogs of War!"
You guys should definitely read the codex, it gives a lot of insight into how they feel about certain characters which explains a lot about how they deal with them in the situation
When Odin and Thor show up to the house, whenever Odin makes a move toward Atreus Kratos grabs his axe that is sitting on the table. Always ready to protect his son.
TAKE YOUR TIME We don’t care how long or what we watch we love you fellas

Since you wanna do most if not all the side stuff I gotta warn you guys, there are secret bosses towards the 2nd half of the game and those shits are HARD, there are people who have been playing games like this for years and years and even they struggle to get through some those side bosses so I'm sure nobody would hold it against you if you skipped some of them if they get too frustrating
Also Mason Quinn HAS to learn how to parry if he wants to have any hope with some of these bosses, it's a very essential mechanic and he will make his life substantially harder if he keeps avoiding it
Also remember to lock on to enemies with R3, makes fights like the Thor fight wayyy easier
1:07:42 That's Tyr's Temple, just below the realm travel room. In the previous game, right after flipping the entire room near the end of the game, Mimir makes comments about those warrior statues there. They then go up to the surface of Tyr's Bridge, outside.
I love how Answer bob and weaves in real life when he's doing combat in-game 😂 I do the same thing! I already can't wait for the next episode 🔥
The refusal to learn to block 😂😂😂 I haven't played Ragnarok yet, but I can guarantee that learning to parry is only ganna help as the game continues.
I believe I’m with the boys on this one. TAKE, YOUR, TIME. Embrace everything and experience everything. We all will be waiting for the next vids to drop. No rush
YES! My fav game of all time! If you think the story in the 2018 game was epic then you gentleman are in gor a treat.
Quinn is way more curious in every part of the game... then a person should be
Glad to hear you guys took the advice, that’s why talk are the best! I hope you enjoy the full story this time.
Well in the previous game there's a secret ending (kinda) where you have to go home and sleep and it leads to this opening where Thor came
Man, Oak, you're looking trim mate! Been toning up?
Keep up the great work anyway gents! Enjoy this incredible journey!!
This game makes the first one look like a proof of concept demo. Go wide. Go long. Go deep. There isn’t any other way to enjoy it, in my opinion.
Destroy enemy shield with double press the block button.
Press R3 button to lock on enemy.
Hold block and press down on the D-pad button to turn around 180.
God of War Thor>Disney Thor
Endgame version was pretty close to this one, though. But you’re right this version is better for being more mythically accurate.
Honestly, I didn't know you could die in the first part to Freya...
Pressed l1 and r1 together
@guskinmaypho174 lol yea because it's a simple one to follow mash the buttons that pop up, but you do see your health going down if you are laxed on pressing them.
Man I can’t wait for the next episode 😂I’ve rewatched this like 3-4 times now this channel is my go to at work. Keep it up boys 🙏🏽
You did not watch a 2hr gameplay video 3-4 times.. Quit lying..
Diamond Dave please upload this series in 60fps
Need them to upload in 4K 60fps 😫
1:02:41 you called it Oak! The guy who plays Thor is Ryan Hurst. Gerry Bertier in Remember The Titans!
hey guys just to say theres a balance to be struck. its definitely good to do some, a healthy amount, of side quests, alot of it is fun. but you shouldnt feel like you need to 100% or do EVERYTHING, that is a lot and i think you guys are like me that you want to know what happens next in the story!
so in other words, dont feel bad about following main quest at certain points if thats what you are enjoying! it definitely isnt necessary to do all the side stuff and optional bosses and zones, you will be strong enough only doing some. anyway enjoy the playthru fellas !! 💪🏼
It’s crazy how they played the last one without fighting one valk I still really liked the gameplay tho and I’m hyped for this one
I am enjoying you gameplay to God of War a lot❤❤❤.
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOO WE ARE HERE!!!!!!!!
We all have been waiting to see this EPIC game 🎮💙
You guys are awesome.. looking forward to watching this!!
You should turn on auto pick in settings, its helps a lot
Boy! Stop what you are doing. Badd Medicine is back!
Love that Thor doesn't drink any mead, he poured a glass for Atreus instead
"Who needs to block when you can attack" says the guy who plays worse than a 70 year old grand mother🤣🤣🤣
🍅
lmao
Hahaha! Well.. I hope they will get used to using both sticks at the same time at least, during this playthrough. It's painful to see them walk, then stop walking to turn the camera as if they can't do both at once. 😂 Fun to watch them regardless though!
Thats old men for ga@@Mrdood999
Dying during the first five minutes of the tutorial portion is so on-brand for Mason Quinn💀
Edit: Oak saying quick turn only came later in the first game just bc they never used it is SO Badd Medicine Arcade😭 IT'S L1 + Down on the D-pad!!
His overconfidence in combat or even just understanding how the game works, is hilariously frustrating!
@PeterDB90 People have been giving the block/parry tips since GoW 2018 part 1.. I would just give up on giving this tip by now..
This will be epic and a rollercoaster of emotions.
Remember what I said on the GOW 2018 videos, learning the perfect block is a must!
Also, just an FYI, this game's story and dialogue assumes you did all of the side stuff in the earlier game, so you will often hear them mention Valkyries as if you already fought ALL of them, for example.
I have never seen someone dying at the first Freya fight
Many people do...the game isn't very good at point the button to be pushed clearly in that fight...the snow and the makes it hard to see...once you see it, it's very easy to do it, but if you can't see it clearly or in time, you die...
I like this view of you guys as you play as well, reminds me of a regular reaction
I just started playing it just so I could watch you guys and not recieve spoilers! I'm loving it and I'm sure you guys will love it too.
Please please PLEASE do the side quests. We don’t mind a long journey 💗 Love you guys, I’m glad you’ve enjoyed these games
Don’t know if anyone’s mentioned it yet but the introduction of Thor is a hidden cutscene at the end of the first game, if you go back to the cabin
I always thought that the guy who voices Thor sounds a lot like John Goodman
Did you notice anytime Odin so much as looked Atreus’ way Kratos grabbed his axe
LETS GOOOO!
Thanks for the episode. You guys should consider changing the tapping circle buttons prompts to holding circle button in the accessability settings.
Take you time we YEs have a LIST for you guys to play , That don't mean for you guys to rush the gameplay , ENJOY it it's an escape. a way to enjoy and immerser yourself in a Story of Kratos an his legacy
THE LONGER YOU TAKE, THE MORE CONTENT YOU GET
Let’s gooooo been waiting for this all week!!!
I love that Freya gets hr own Ares scream.
its lowkey kinda funny how it takes this guy like 2 hours to realize hes not in a cutscene anymore almost every time
Best God Of War
Let's go
YESSS THANK GOD YOU GUYS ARE PLAYING THE SEQUEL
55:24 they sound like chewbaka but poor bears :
When Odin and Thor show up to the house, whenever Odin makes a move toward Atreus Kratos grabs his axe that is sitting on the table. Always ready to protect his son.
Omg yesssssssssssss I just started playing that game like yesterday
