This is honestly gonna be the coolest playthrough mason doesn’t have to know but if he watches bring him in I have had friends help and wanna play who know nothing
@BaddMedicineArcade Don't forget that clicking R3 will let you lock onto a target. Only time it will unlock from that target is if you move the right stick while there are other enemies or if they jump/move off screen really fast. Like The Stranger did.
"I don't want the Axe!" 😂 Salute to Oak for his first fight in GOW , which is straight up to a boss fight, and he decide to fight hand(and yeah....shield) to hand💪
Guys, please make sure you always listen to the dialogue. Majority of the mythology is conveyed through in gameplay and not cutscenes. Also, would love for you guys to give your thoughts on the story so far after each part.
I second this - especially later in the game - without revealing spoilers, you start getting LOTS of story-telling segments during long travel portions (which would otherwise bog down the pacing of the game, but because you get stories they are so wholesome and interesting).
I second this! They were so close to getting the last seal with it being right above the last bridge they crossed. I thought for sure they had seen it! Opening gold chests and Nornir chests are vital for doing well in this game
@@getspun6961 Older games used to do it too, I remember Tony Hawk Wasteland use to have the player ride the subway or train to go to new area. Batman Arkham asylum loaded an area when the player was opening vents. Last of us 1 & 2, and all Souls game that's all I can think of. More games than you realize did it, Its more apparent in GOW because they initially marketed the game with that point so everyone talked about that feature.

You guys honestly did way better than I thought you would. I thought you would have a bigger learning curve but you both did really well. Side note, make sure to scan your environment. There are hidden things and that locked chest at the end gets opened by breaking the seals you got two of and they’re always around the chest. Looking forward to this series!
Both games are 10/10 but RDR2 was slightly more divisive due to some design choices that turned people off to it while GOW was loved by basically everyone.@morgan3714
YYYYEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!! Wish the others were here to experience this game as well. But I certainly hope(and know lol) that you guys enjoy this game! It's definitely in my top five games.
Oak: I know the cinematic scenes can be more realistic Me: This whole game is a cinematic masterpiece and was groundbreaking with the transitions from gameplay to cutscene
Dad of Boy - here we go! Knowing Kratos backstory enriches this game a lot. I am glad, you took the time to learn about his life before this. I agree, the animation is insane. We are now at a stage, where looks convey so much more emotions and subtext than any words could. I am in amazed by Playstation games. Always high quality. Love your channel, guys. Thanks for sharing your journey with us.
So excited for this journey! Oak got thrown right into the first boss fight LMAO. Wasn't a problem though 💪 Here some tips for y'all: Use R3 to lock-on to the enemy, very good for boss fights you won't have to move the camera too much in combat. Exploring and looting is how you get most of your upgrades and will make the game a lot easier. Also recommend to keep reading Codex, it has a lot of good lore. It's all written from Atreus perspective and adds to the story.
My FAVORITE part about this game is that you can play it 100% start to finish without a single cut to a load screen or cut scene, not even 1. ( unless you die, pause or quit the game. ) it is one continuous smooth shot the WHOLE game. That alone is absolutely mind blowing. Then you have the detailed environments, character interactions between Atreus and Kratos, the story, the combat, the puzzles: everything is mind blowing from start to finish. My favorite game of all time and I've been gaming for 25+ years!
Long time GoW fan, and the level of hype I was feeling for this game when first playing it was unreal, and also later towards the middle of the game (you'll know what I'm talking about) when I was just screaming out of excitement.
@danielportillo1349 I've only played 2018 and ragnarok myself. I never had a playstation till a couple of years ago but out of those 2 ragnaroks combat is definitely more polished but just can't get beat the story of 2018 it's so good!
Some tips for you: 1) explore around to get more loot and lore 2) learn to parry with the sheild early game so it helps you more with harder opponents 3) keep your eyes peeled for easter eggs, lore markers, odin ravens, etc. 4) do the side missions but keep the episodes balanced with some main mission and some side mission, that way it doesn't feel too tedious (side missions can be tedious at times depending on the mission) 5) I would recommend buying better armor and then once you have the armor that looks/performs well, upgrade those. Dont upgrade every armor. Equip things you like.
This game is incredible!! This and the one after are two of my favourite games and stories of all time. Oak’s “I think I got him” after dropping a whole boulder on the stranger killed me! 😂
The attacks being on the triggers is very much something that is popularized in recent years. If I recall correctly it's since the Souls series kinda pioneered that type of battling.
I think it has less to do with the Souls series and more to do with what type of gameplay you expect. In God of War, there's a lot of aiming required for throwing your axe AND shooting Atreus arrows, and when you have controls that demand aiming during combat, it's impractical to have the attacks on the face-buttons because you can't have your thumb on the thumbsticks and press the buttons comfortably. Conversely, there are Spider-Man games from this generation that still use the face buttons for attacks, because while aiming is still somewhat important in that game (for shooting webs), during combat it's not necessary. So it all depends on the style of combat and less to do with what's currently trendy.
Slow down guys. You have to take your time or you won't get very far. Find as many chests as you can especially the ones with the blue runes on them. You need them to increase your health and Spartan rage meters which will help to progress through the game as the enemies get stronger.
Give it time - they are getting used to the game, and nothing in the game is missable, they can always return and collect things they missed. They opened the menu immediately, for god's sake! They're thorough, they just don't know the ins and outs of the game yet to know where they can/can't go. Once they get comfortable, they'll be checking every nook and cranny.
Finally! You guys are in for a treat. God of War, Uncharted 4, and Bloodborne, in my opinion, are the 10/10 masterpieces of the PlayStation exclusives of the 8th console generation.
@@BrienBellJTS I do kinda wish they would've gone another way with TLOU2, but it is still a pretty good game. Without spoilers, imo it would've been better if 2 was further building of relationships and 3 was what 2 is.
One thing I would recommend for this playthrough is lots of exploring! You can find lots of great upgrades by doing this but if you run into something that is too difficult no harm in leaving and coming back later when your stronger looking forwards to seeing you play through this amazing game!
So excited to see you guys play through this one! GOW actually beat out Red Dead 2 for Game of the Year back in 2018. Love this game; hope you do too 🤘 Also, remember to use R3 to lock onto enemies. It'll help you keep track of fast-moving opponents and bosses.
The axe might be a tad slower than punching, but it hits harder and can be upgraded throughout the game with more damage and special moves. It also has ice advantages against certain enemies
Quick tip for you guys, when an enemy flashes with a red circle it means that attack is unblockable, and when it flashes with a yellow circle you can parry the attack when you block at the right time.
One of the cool things about this game is that it's technically a one-shot camera. They sneak loading-screens into clever places so the entire game feels like one continuous shot. It does not cut away even in times that could basically be considered cutscenes. I think that part of this game's design is underrated
I know I'm not the only one to mention this but make sure to explore all the branching paths. It's how you get gear, health and rage uprades. I can't wait for more episodes.
I am just mind blown, the amount of things yall realize is amazing for someone who knows everything about the game. Picking up on Atreus going in the direction of the story.. the only channel I’ve seen realize that.
this just means they could have a second playthrough with the others. then after everyone finishes both they could do like a stream just talking about it or something
Yo guys! Great first impressions of the game, couple of minor tips fo ya. When you're running around feel free to roam around more because there are a lot of loots around you. Pay a LOT of attention when the characters are speaking not just when it's a cutscene, there's are lots of easter eggs, interesting facts, and stories that the characters may be telling. All and all, goodjob with the first boss fight, I do also suggest you guys use the axe more because not only does it do more damage but getting a hang of it will really help you throughout your journey. Thats it, have fun with the journey!
The nornir chests( chest with the glowing seals) are pretty important to get as opening them increases your health and rage bars❤ loved this episode, I cannot wait to see your reactions to what is still to come
Good tip to know about health/rage/xp stones is that if you step on one directly next to an enemy, it will temporarily stun them for a split second and even interrupt incoming attacks. That move has saved me from a few annoying bosses lol. There's the occasional larger "health" stone you can sometimes find too. It will occasionally switch from green, to orange, to white and back again. Depending if you want health, rage or xp, wait until it turns into the colour you want and then stand on it. Green for health, orange for rage and white for xp. They're super useful
I REALLY do miss Mason Quinn here & it's a shame his not a part of this playthrough, but I did enjoy Oak "how hot is the controller?" Answer "Mason Quinn would be proud" moment ☺️
Yes! Finally! I haven't watched the video yet, so I don't know if you guys got there, but I would also highly advise looking at accessibility options and enabling whatever option allows you to do button holds instead of button mashes during cinematic sequences - the rapid button presses are hard on the controller, hard on your hands and wrists and isn't even really a "fun" challenge part of the game, just annoying, so it makes the gameplay feel much smoother when you don't have to occasionally tap the button like mad because Kratos is lifting a mountain or something.
4:50 love the subtle message to literally us gamers, the ones who played the previous ones. And also EXPLORE GUYS ☺️ there’s no time constraint when going thru levels, plus you might find some cool callbacks to the original games
Since this is my 3rd time watching through your playthrough I want to say something that I failed to acknowledge in my previous comments, and that is that both of you did remarkably well during combat. You showcased perfectly well that there are numerous ways to approach combat and be successful. Though I must say I've never seen anyone go against The Stranger with bare fists but then again I suppose if anyone can, Oak can. Thanks again guys and can't wait for part 2.
Oh man this is going to be a good play through can't wait. As others have said go exploring. The game is fairly linear. If BOY goes a certain way than go the other way and explore. There is a lot of good loot to find off the beaten path. I HIGHLY recommend you do the side quests as they come up. It adds a lot to the game. It's a great story if you skip, but for me personally I think the side quests are purposefully set up to enhance the main story while having some fun on the side. Plus LOOT. The Frost Axe is by far my favorite weapon I've ever used in a game. The Thor movies made the recallability of a weapon popular and oh boy is it fun to use in a combat game. I don't think if Marvel made a game that the ability of recalling a weapon would be as good. Santa Monica spent a lot of time developing the game play and it shows. It's fantastic. Fluid, natural and satisfying. However. It is a slower weapon. So how you're playing now with mixing in bare handed and the axe is good strategy. You'll get a feel for how you want to play as you get used to it. Enjoy the game!
Adding to this now that I’ve watched the video… For the coloured enemy attacks, yellow attacks you can parry and red attacks you have to dodge Also, for the love of god, please go find the 3rd seal to open that chest before you progress any further Awesome job guys!
Yellow attacks are best to parry(tap L1) Red you dodge. Use Atreus to interrupt enemies red unblockable attacks. Explore everything. That’s how you get upgrade materials/items. The puzzle chests (breaking those seals) are important they help upgrade health/spartan rage meters
WOOOOO!!! Here we go! The journey has begun. Big recommendations/tips for you guys starting out! Make sure you explore and look around more. Lots of good stuff to find. Important stuff too. The game doesn't force you to follow Atreus so you can go off whenever you want. You'll know if its an area or object you can't access because the game will tell you. You can always come back to an area too later in the game when it opens up more, but its better to get things when you can as you go along your journey. That way you don't forget. Attacks that glow red, as you've noticed already, mean you can't block it and you have to dodge. However, attacks that glow yellow mean that you can block it but it will stagger you. So you have to either parry it or dodge. If you need extra health, try and look around for pots to smash. They can contain health or hacksilver. And last, nornir chests like this one with the 3 runes (1:33:27) are important. You don't wanna skip those when you find them. Otherwise have fun and enjoy the game! 20:37 Most of the times no unless you know you finished all of the enemies I guess. I usually recommend for beginners of the God of War franchise not to use health unless you need it because you might need it for later if you run into enemies again. P.S. The graphics do look amazing, but honestly I don't think the PS5 did much of any enhancements to it if at all. It looked this good on the PS4 too.
Imma do my best to help you out. When an enemy flashes red, you can't block it, but a yellow flash you can. The chests with the glowing blue runes, you have to look around the chest and you'll find 3 glowing runes around somewhere, check high and low. Mixing the axe with fists will help Oak. Start with a swing or two, then throw it at them, then beat them with fists and call the axe back for the final hit. Listen to Atreus a bit more, he mentions how many runes you have left. Anything on a wall or ledge that is yellow, is painted on by your ex-wife and means something you can climb. The "moving" blue thing Oak threw the axe at and missed, was an Odin Raven. You collect them around the game, some fly around, some are on ledges, all are hard to hit lol. When you guys upgrade your combos more, you'll love the options you have on how you can attack. And finally it is MASSIVELY open world, but you guys haven't made it there yet. The map opens up massively like Hogwarts does, once you get there in the story.
Finally you guys get to play this amazing game, it’s impressive how well you did for the first time playing but please remember to play attention to the dialogue it’s very important and don’t be afraid to explore the world to find hidden secrets and loot. Also a tip for combat, you can press R3 to lock onto enemies so you don’t lose track of them
So excited for you guys to play this one! Some basics the game may not tell you: The Revenants (the poison witch mobs) are best beat by shooting arrows first, then attack with axe/fists Don't forget to look up. Some collectibles and hacksilver are found up higher. Have fun exploring! Sometimes if Atreus is leading you one way, check the other paths for collectibles. Happy Travels!
Highly recommend watching "raising kratos" documentary made by sony ans santa monica studios if you want to know how they made this game and how much they cared. They made it available for everyone on UA-cam.
Just here to drop some small tips , this game and the next one to come is not as small as the previous games you guys reacted to and sure there’s ALOT to discover , don’t hold back on collecting any loot and don’t skip a chest you see especially the nornir chests with the symbols on them because those are the most important ones and you’ll see why when you progress in the game further , make good use of your hacksilver and be wise about how you spend them and what you spend them on , it’s always important to check out the things you can buy and check your status in general , whenever you gain XP make sure you use it when you can and while upgrading your weapon you will unlock more skills in your skill tree at the menu , you can use XP to unlock more skills and moves with your weapon ( very cool ones ) also remember every once in a while drift away from the main story of the game , it wouldn’t hurt much to do a side mission to discover new places and see what more can the game offer you , an absolutely beautiful game and it didn’t stop getting better on the next one , enjoy !

It does not cut away even in times that could basically be considered cutscenes. I think that part of this game's design is underrated
I know I'm not the only one to mention this but make sure to explore all the branching paths. It's how you get gear, health and rage uprades. I can't wait for more episodes.
i love apple's face when gaming lmao, he looks so tense
I am just mind blown, the amount of things yall realize is amazing for someone who knows everything about the game. Picking up on Atreus going in the direction of the story.. the only channel I’ve seen realize that.
You guys are way better than I thought. This was amazing to watch, I didn't skip a second lol
Btw the guy who plays The Stranger is the same actor that plays the Father in The Black Phone movie
Huh interesting lol
Aka Upham from Saving Private Ryan which was hard to believe at first
I am actually beyond hype, excited, joyful etc for yall to play this game and fall in love with the story!!
Wish the whole gang was here for this one!
this just means they could have a second playthrough with the others.
then after everyone finishes both they could do like a stream just talking about it or something
So excited!
In this game your gonna want to do a lot of exploration there’s a lot of loot that can benefit you so stay off the path a lot
The nornir chests( chest with the glowing seals) are pretty important to get as opening them increases your health and rage bars❤ loved this episode, I cannot wait to see your reactions to what is still to come
This is a great addition to the normal channel stuff. Some video games this one included have stories that rival even the greatest tv shows
This game rose to the top of my all time favorites SO QUICKLY! You guys are gonna absolutely love it!
Thanks for the video and the reactions i really enjoy it
I so hyped for this series.
Haven't felt like this in a while :p
Ohhh they played this 2 hours ago omdss and I missed this after finishing thier god of war 3 watch.. u gained a new sub today
When I played on PS4 I was absolutely blown away by the graphics and the beauty of this game.
Father and Boy are back on my screen LFG!! Excited for you gents!
Ooo exciting! I forgot how beautiful this game was. The music, the art, everything just epic ♥
I have been waiting for this. This game came out right after I had my first son. It is an awesome game and means so much to me personally.
super excited to see you guys play!!
Finally woooooo. It's sooooo goood. When it goes from cutscene to gameplay and almost changes none in graphic quality.
Red Circles from enemies cannot be blocked nor parried and must be dodged.
Yellow circles can be blocked and can be parried.
Been waiting for this one since the literal 1st watch, thank god you took your time with the series now you can appreciate the masterpiece GOW 2018 is
Well this is everything I didn’t know I needed today. Can’t wait to follow you guys on this incredible journey
Adding to this now that I’ve watched the video…
For the coloured enemy attacks, yellow attacks you can parry and red attacks you have to dodge
Also, for the love of god, please go find the 3rd seal to open that chest before you progress any further
Awesome job guys!
This baldur And kratos fighting just like khabib and McGregor 😂😂
Yes
More like Triple h vs Connor McGregor
Yellow attacks are best to parry(tap L1) Red you dodge.
Use Atreus to interrupt enemies red unblockable attacks.
Explore everything. That’s how you get upgrade materials/items.
The puzzle chests (breaking those seals) are important they help upgrade health/spartan rage meters
Oh man, Oak is going to LOVE this story
WOOOOO!!!
Also a tip for combat, you can press R3 to lock onto enemies so you don’t lose track of them
I haven’t even started seeing your reaction yet and I’m so stoked!!!
Love to see you guys enjoying it! There is such good story and fighting at times it even feels like you are playing in a superhero movie
So excited for you guys to play this one! Some basics the game may not tell you:
The Revenants (the poison witch mobs) are best beat by shooting arrows first, then attack with axe/fists
Don't forget to look up. Some collectibles and hacksilver are found up higher.
Have fun exploring! Sometimes if Atreus is leading you one way, check the other paths for collectibles. Happy Travels!
Finally !! Game is in my top 3 ever
This one is gunna hit oak hard.
Need y’all to drop multiple parts at once. I’m hooked!
Every time I see Atreus leap onto Kratos's back all I can think of is "I can be your backpack while you run." 😆 If you know, we're friends now 😁
Awesome job you guys! This world and Norwegian folk lore is is so awesome, I'm sure you are going to enjoy this one!
