This is actually our final episode for the New Zealand circumnavigation, as we pull into Opua, but we take the time to make a big announcement in my life....
SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 catamaran, which Colin rebuilt with friends and has started sailing around the world. We found bulkhead damage on their catamaran in Panama, so have fixed her up, and are now sailing across the Pacific Ocean!!

Colin, with the direction of the lip seals on the head sail furler, it would always allow atmospheric pressure to enter, but never escape. So, rather than piercing the seal, you can just periodically “burp” it. The fact that it holds that much pressure is a testament to the quality. On the topic of Salt Shark… I live in Fort Lauderdale. Not sure how I can help, but would be willing. Loved the NZ trip. Nicely done!!!

I'm pondering my 2nd circumnavigation of NZ. I did it about 15 years ago, some of it single handed, but mostly 2 handed. You have reminded me of how amazing the fiords are and I need to get back there. Stewart Island is also a spectacular place with some very good anchorages on the east side, but only 1 average anchorage on the west. The upper North Island is rather benign weather wise, very sheltered from the southerlies once rounding East Cape, and many protected anchorages. Great to see a NZ navigation from someone who has sailed from much further afield than I ever have. I was surprised at you problems with the sandflies, I never had any problems with them once more than 30 or so metres off shore. Even when tie up at the Blanket bay wharf or in Luncheon Cove. I was wondering if the large covered area in your cockpit was a bit of a haven for them. They love to be under something, protected from the wind and birds.
Fantastic to hear Jamie had some good fishing, but it does make me wonder how poor it is in other places around the world. The stories my father told me of catching grouper at Mechanics Bay in Auckland when he was a boy tells me how much pressure there is on our fishery, yet other places have fallen even further.
Well no doubt you are well beyond Fiji by now. Keep up the good work

episode 270 put a smile on my face. You and all your boat friends are great. I can travel with you around the world and not get the least bit seasick. Be careful with the knives. Did you know kerosene will stop the bleeding, take away pain, heal the wound and does not hurt when you pour it on. We use it to castrate horses in Colorado. I am 74...I know these things.

That is a great product in the North East USA they use lots of salt , areas like the Adirondacks could use a product
like this one to use on the roads in Spring , this could be use with Highway trucks that spray , this I am sure would work ,specially areas around lakes . You guys should contact first Conservation Organizations and local Towns.
If it works on roads I am sure once word gets around it would take off . This will work as long as it is not soap base
because of the roads , good luck to you guys ,this is a great product, once it goes for sale in the internet I will buy
    for my car in winter.

All who board Parlay are changed for the better, the sea, these people, and this boat impart to people things they don’t know they needed and leave with a peace they’ve never before known INCLUDING us couch crew.. parlay is the best kind of therapy for the soul set in the most beautiful parts of our planet.. thank you Colin and crew past present and future.. and by the way SALT SHARK seems like a Godsend to the yachting industry and I’m sure it’s only a matter of time that the right people will come into play to grow that incredible product.. Hey Colin Engineer to Engineer, I am an Aircraft engineer and we had a similar problem on a Light Helicopter bearings. The solution was to use a Hypodermic needle largest you can find and inject the sealed bearings with the grease they use by a Fill to Spill Method by injecting it in the Rubber sealing cap and allow it to spill out checking that the grease that comes out isn't Hydroscopic with water ingress for your Headsail bearings maybe Love The VLOG Craig

Really exciting stuff. As you work through all the normal marketing stuff don't forget this: you guys are a brand! Some people just want to buy cheap stuff, but some people like to buy into a brand and you guys are a brand. Young, motivated, getting out there and doing stuff and having fun while doing it. People, not all of them but some, will pick your product over another because they want to support you and your dreams. This support doesn't just exist here on UA-cam and patreon but is something you can build the brand around. Have fun building the business and show off this fun and the success you'll hopefully have in every way you can.

Once you do get set up & start selling in the US, I suspect you are going to get a significant number of orders from landlocked Minnesota. I for one will contribute to the crowdfunding campaign! We put a salt solution on our roads on the winter to eat thru ice buildup on the roads, so salt builds up on every single car, and people have to constantly wash it out. Another good idea would be to also market to Minnesota car wash businesses.

This channel just keeps getting better. Totally admire you going against the normal advertising that others do and instead doing something special with Salt Shark. I know how karma works and this venture will be successful just because of the spirit it's done with. Good on ya!!! Oh yeah the K.I.S.S troubleshooting method on the pressurized seal was brilliant and showed the difference between an engineer who sits at a desk and one that gets his hands dirty. Cheers!

Congratulations on your circumnavigation of NZ! Thanks so much for allowing us all to tag along. I must say, my respect for the endeavor has only heightened after watching the most harrowing tale of survival of the 4 crew of the Rose Noell. Lost at sea for 119 days on a capsized trimaran. Godspeed.

Congratulations on your new partnership. I want to comment on how far Katie has come in her abilities on Parlay. I remember the day you left for your circumnavigation and we all thought Parlay would have to turn around and drop you off. You go girl!

Hey guys, your salt shark product sounds amazing. You’ve clearly got a huge market with costal regions, however, don’t forget about us inland folks either. Should develop a product, or test the current product, for Winter climates in municipalities that use salt on their roads. Would love the ability to use a reusable pressurized (pump) version that doesn’t require a hose, so it can be applied at the car wash or anywhere, since not everyone (like those who live in apartment buildings or travel around in their vehicles), have access to a hose. I would do two trips to fill the bottle just to wash the salt off my car in the Winter. One to spray it down with your product, and another to rinse it down with clean water. Just had to pay $600 this Spring for a brand new exhaust system. Had no idea it would corrode that fast! Maybe 4-5 seasons max. Would use this product regularly if it was reasonably priced and a good quality, reusable bottle, just to keep my car from rusting out. We need help too! 😂
Either way, good luck with the biz! I relate a lot to what you spoke about. Went the self-employed route too. When we don’t fit in, we have to create our own lane/category.

Lots of boats here in the U.S. but many more cars rusting out in the North East and Canada with salted roads in the Winter. Demonstrate with the underside of cars and how it can prevent rust and you will sell a ton of product. Best of luck and hope you make millions.

I strongly support your partnership with Taylor and agree with Chris Rock, we need bullies. Put the most successful men and women in the world in one room, and ask them to put their hands up to see which ones were bullied. Most of ’em!”
Taylor, I applaud your fortitude, success and continued growth.
    Thanks for sharing.

What a great product. It would be a very good idea to get the mixture patented if possible, to reduce the likelihood of it being copied. Shark might have already done so, as he seems very clever. I see many applications beyond the sea based salt removal, particularly the road industry. If this market is receptive t would positively increase production and reduce costs, including shipping in bulk. You are right it has global appeal. .

Hey Colin, been watching since you started fixing her up. Also watch many others and others who have left unfortunately. Dream of sailing but it's beyond my reach. But that aside something that's seems to be a trend right now is the brackets on boats like yours holding the dinge on breaking and dropping it into the water. Just something to keep and eye on.
