Most people treat addicts like they are less than human and that makes everything worse.

I haven’t ever thought less if addicts but I do not like how they try to get everyone to feel sorry for them. You made the choice to do the drug. No one forced you. I am a recovering opioids user and I’ve always been a believer in taking responsibility for my bad choices and actions. People at the meetings don’t like hearing what I have to say because they are just there looking for pitty. F that. Congrats to you for getting clean. One day at a time. God bless you.
@@nickohler5707 they don’t try to get everyone to feel sorry for them. They made a mistake. We have all made mistakes. I feel bad for people who are struggling. No one is telling anyone else they have to feel bad. People don’t usually because drug addicts because they want to get high. They become addicts because of some underlying pain they are trying to escape. And we should all be able to relate to that in my opinion. When someone is down I feel bad for them. Unless they’re a murderer or rapist or something awful, I do not blame them for being addicted to drugs. You can judge them, like I judged by sister. It did a lot of good. She’s dead now. She’s ashes. She never hurt anyone. She got addicted to shit while being horrifically abused by a monstrous man. I was worried about people wanting sympathy. And she’s dead. So now I have sympathy. No one says that you have to.
Yes, and our "friends" start to resent us the second we start making any progress. It's a crabs in a barrel thing. I had to move to a different apartment, trying to keep my address a secret, TWICE when I started cleaning up and applying for a job, because my "friends" would constantly come to my place and try to get me back into using stuff. One actually climbed a fire ladder to my window in the middle of the night because I wasn't answering the phone and the apartment building door downstairs was locked.
As someone who has spent years watching Larry's content, both on UA-cam and on British TV, but who doesn't follow or pay attention to internet drama of any kind, it's disappointing to hear all this about him. I do wonder how he will respond, or if he will respond at all.

I could kind of tell based on some of his jokes in his videos that something was off but nothing like what Pat described.
I just dont understand or 'level' for that matter, with people who function this way....feeling the need to foul mouth collegues/ peers online...seems like pointing one finger and having the rest of the hand pointing towards themselves...

Absolutely agree here, I've watched a fair bit of Larry thinking he was above this kind of behaviour, with his content being pretty decent, but his main flaw being his voice (cringe!). Why do content creators stoop to this level?

to be entirely fair I don't think he deliberately seeks out obscure, 20 view videos and facebook posts and the like to hide his trash talking, he just spends 90% of his day looking for these things in general. I have seen LBJ dropping random obscure trivia, or claiming to have worked on, or know someone who has worked on, the most random shit you can think of, in every comment section and forum on the internet.
While he might be a complete dick his videos are extremely informative and have a lot of facts that are not easily known.
I think a good term to describe the way Larry talks about you Pat would be "concern trolling". Which basically means that he lies and attacks your character under the guise that he's merely worried about you as a means of making him look like "the good guy" when instead his ulterior motive is much more dubious.
The concept of "concern trolling" being a thing is Jewish in nature

The fact that I saw both Pat and Wet Rice at MGC last year selling books pretty much debunks any claim I can think of that Pat would try to boycott other people from selling their books at conventions.

I don't except a UA-camr to sound like Shakespeare, but I also didn't except for AVGN to sound like he's borderline mentally disabled. I fault like I had a lobotomy after an episode of "James and Mike Play". Still a fan though. lol.

This is such a surprise to me. I follow Guru Larry on youtube and seemed like a level headed nice chap and didn't think he was the kind of person to do things like this. Real shame.
Same. I first learned of Larry from Ashens way back in the day, who is a nice dude, and always liked Larry since. It was one of those videos where they reviewed one of those old retro videogame board games. It’s a shame to see that he’s trying to stir up drama like this. I'd like to see his input though if he's willing to talk about it.

Larry is a habitual liar and anyone that watches retro content would of seen his comments eveywhere on youtube making outlandish claims. Any game or system or anything, he has some outlandish story about how it screwed him over with a glitch or he got it imported before anyone else or just about anything to try and make himself look unique.
My best example (as its easy to prove as a blatant lie) is when he claimed he locked himself in a room in resident evil code veronica because he forgot a key. Something thats literally impossible. I called him out on it being a lie in a reply to that comment, but he never responds of course.
Eventually people got tired of seeing his comments on every single retro gaming video, upvoted by his fans, People realised its impossible for one person to have all these outlandishly unique gaming things happen to them so started calling him out in replies to his comments. Not once has he responded to a reply to a comment he made with some outlandish claim.
Which in my eyes shows what he is doing, he's trying to spread his channel by commenting on everyone elses videos with 'unique' gaming stories (lies) about himself and getting it upvoted by his fans , giving his channel more visibility. I also think he uses multiple accounts to get his comment high up initially, but that bit is speculation.
PS: im British same as larry, I can spot brit bullshitters so flippin easy. Larry's the guy in the playground that always tried to outdo you. If you said you got a pentium 1 pc he would say he has some prototype pentium 2 that isnt released yet. If you had a mega drive he had a snes and a mega drive. etc etc.

I remember his claim that Roo was the one that actually wrote the book. What a bizarre claim,. like..... why would Roo put up with that? Why would he agree to it? How would Pat even force him to do that? and after all that, why would Roo still be friendly with Pat after the fact? Makes zero sense.
Ian going "Ooh wah ah ah ah" and Pat looking on confused might be my favorite moment of the whole podcast.
That's a shame, I really like Larry's videos, but I suppose I don't know that much about him. I've exchanged a few comments with him here and there over the years and he always comes across as a nice guy, but again, I wasn't aware of his reputation or his involvement in ED. It's always disappointing when creators you like are at odds. Being completely honest, my opinion of you guys had previously been negative, probably owing substantially to the Diablo Immortal situation, but it was stupid and wrong of me to judge you without knowing anything about you. I've been listening to the podcast ever since Pat was involved in Karl Jobst's exposé of WATA and Heritage Auctions (I was also aware of Pat due to his collaborations with James Rolfe) and I'm happy to say that any bad impressions I had were completely wrong. You're people, complex, multifaceted people, and nobody should be defined by a single act or moment in time, especially when all of the information is third hand at best. Shamefully it's a trap I continue to fall into. I'll endeavour to do better.

I'd say it's precisely because Larry was called out on his behaviour and he suffered consequences for it that he's projecting all this hate.

Larry was always the guy who didn't seem to burn ANY bridges. For example, Larry remained friendly with Maddox, even after his fans abandoned him due to all the bs he did to Dick Masterson. Also, Larry was the only one to not say anything against Channel Awesome, even being the last person to remain on the website besides the Walkers and Brad Jones. But yeah, I came across Larry's anti-Pat comments on an Amico shill's video some time ago, the first time I saw him being confrontational (though not directly) towards another internet personality.

Guru Larry is hardcore projecting when he comes up with accusations of plagarism against Pat when he's been stealing all the content he uses in his videos from The Cutting Room Floor wiki with no credit. Each time something major pops up on TCRF, he starts a new video with this new discovery as the #1 of a top 5 list and then spends his time looking through the rest of TCRF to find similar types of discoveries to make his videos. This happens *EVERY TIME*.
The AVGN episode is objectively in the top 1/3 of the funniest episodes. It was really well done and you did a great job. The hammer smash gets me every time.

Wow this is just crazy. Not only I'm looking forward to SoCal Retro Gaming Expo, but wonder how many are ready to reach for cameras or smartphones and be sure to catch incident on video if it happens. Also no matter what I've have too much respect for hard work and content that goes into CUPodcast.
This is really surreal to see, considering years ago, Larry would often leave super positive comments underneath videos (that's where I know him from at least), often of smaller UA-camrs, offering to collab or even loaning out consoles for videos. Sad to see him being so stubborn about this and apparently attacking others too over real petty reasons.
For what it's worth, whilst I did hear of you for the first time through the AVGN videos, I first gave your videos a shot after your books got released and the Chameleon stuff blew up.
Since I'm seeing you on here, Larry also seriously shit on the Vinesauce team, basically calling them talentless hacks, back in the day. It sucks.

As someone with a Masters of Science is Addiction Studies, I must say, Pat responded to the substance use disorder allegation absolutely perfectly. He denied a patently spurious claim, and then drew attention to the fact that addiction is not she trivial insult to be bandied about superciliously... It's a severe a mental health disorder that, should someone be struggling with its insidious grasp, they require help and understanding... NOT condemnation.

I reached out to ask Pat to contribute to my Twitch channel intro (which was a huge success and people love it!) and he said yes and sent me his video clips within hours. He is a class act and one of my favorite UA-camrs/Twitch streamers, and it sucks to hear that others don't feel the same way. Because in the grand scheme of things, I'm a nobody, and Pat graciously helped me out :)

One thing that tends to get overlooked with the whole Larry/Dramatica connection is that he was a foundational figure in the Chris-chan "saga". Right from the early days he seemed to have a weird fixation on them, and was one of the first people to interview them on camera where they openly toyed with them for laughs. They also seemingly participated in digging up all the personal info they could find and shared it around to draw as much attention as possible. Now by all accounts CWC is a bizarre and indefensible person but it was obvious from very early on they were seriously mentally ill and seeing that sustained pile-on drive them increasingly unhinged was fucking gross. Larry's gleeful participation in the whole thing never sat right with me and was maybe the first sign he had a real vicious streak to his personality.
I remember all the ED game reviewer stuff at the time it went down when Larry's "secret identities" were exposed right on ED itself. The idea that this one guy has been talking so much incredibly vicious shit, often about people he worked alongside, was jaw-dropping. Ofc in hindsight it all seems obvious, looking back you could clearly see any sections of these articles that mentioned Larry were often mildly critical or self-deprecating when they weren't just being openly positive about him. I remember once I noticed that style I started seeing it almost everywhere Larry was mentioned online that could be user-edited, funny that. Dude has been attempting to write his own history as far back as I've been aware of him.

The whole ED thing is less surprising to me when I recently heard from someone else that he hangs out with some weird gamergate aligned people and/or is one himself. And in some replies on UA-cam, Larry brings up that now Pat is "being mean" to SmashJT and ReviewTechUSA.

i looked it up again and you can find further details on larry's involvement on the "Chris-chan Discusses..." page of the cwcwiki but be warned it's pretty tough going. the interviews took place back in 2009, back when the organised trolling was really gaining momentum so he was involved very early on.

I know what it's like to be the subject of really shitty slander and rumors in large groups, while nowhere near the scope of yours.
Still I can understand how shitty and annoying that can be to have ridiculously false information, especially from a single party, floating around and having them also play different to your face as shown in the email you provided of Larry trying to get on the Podcast.
This is my first comment on your page, but I know you guys have faced a lot of controversy over the years and handled it well, despite the outside negativity.
However, some of this bullshit is stuff I can directly relate to, especially false allegations of self harm, hard drug use, spreading my copyrighted material online without permission, and so forth.

Dude, you're not even being petty. I get that it's a bit of self-deprecating humor to frame these call-outs, and I'm here for it. But people who make these passive-aggressive and otherwise cowardly attacks online earn this. I'd rather it be made known so that I have more information to go on when choosing who to support. I also appreciate the even-handed and even jovial way in which you treat these issues. This one was absolutely hilarious. Obviously, I have no expectation that Larry will show up for this because if he had proof, he would already have shared it somewhere; nevertheless, the fact that you opened up this opportunity in such a public way demonstrates to me your integrity.
I'm also very appreciative when this kind of bad behavior is actually called out. I don't want my views going to people I consider to be very problematic.
I think the idea behind the segment name is that he's getting ahead of and owning of the comments that will inevitably be made about him being "petty" about this stuff, when yes, he is absolutely justified in calling it out.

I remember when Screwattack were doing their 10th anniversary live stream. While people were congratulating them in the chat, Larry was there asking when they were going to thank him. When this was pointed out to Craig, he responded with "Really? What a jerk."
Larry is a great content creator and deserves the respect.

Larry is a habitual liar and anyone that watches retro content would of seen his comments eveywhere on youtube making outlandish claims. Any game or system or anything, he has some outlandish story about how it screwed him over with a glitch or he got it imported before anyone else or just about anything to try and make himself look unique.
My best example (as its easy to prove as a blatant lie) is when he claimed he locked himself in a room in resident evil code veronica because he forgot a key. Something thats literally impossible. I called him out on it being a lie in a reply to that comment, but he never responds of course.
Eventually people got tired of seeing his comments on every single retro gaming video, upvoted by his fans, People realised its impossible for one person to have all these outlandishly unique gaming things happen to them so started calling him out in replies to his comments. Not once has he responded to a reply to a comment he made with some outlandish claim.
Which in my eyes shows what he is doing, he's trying to spread his channel by commenting on everyone elses videos with 'unique' gaming stories (lies) about himself and getting it upvoted by his fans , giving his channel more visibility. I also think he uses multiple accounts to get his comment high up initially, but that bit is speculation.
PS: im British same as larry, I can spot brit bullshitters so flippin easy. Larry's the guy in the playground that always tried to outdo you. If you said you got a pentium 1 pc he would say he has some prototype pentium 2 that isnt released yet. If you had a mega drive he had a snes and a mega drive. etc etc.

I never knew about any of this. For the years now, the only issue that I had with Larry was the fact that he looks like he hasn't showered in months. After seeing this and doing some research on it, I have to say. It's pretty damn disappointing that this is real. I mean... wtf?
Cold take since I'm late on this video, but the thing that continues to bum me out is how content creators in retro who I enjoy in a vacuum turn out to be d*ckheads to other creators. EDIT: I just found out he tried to strike an 8-Bit Eric video discussing your video because he claimed the thumbnail was a copyright violation. That's a major d*ck move. I don't understand why people act like this.

Petty Pat is fantastic. As for the claim of him leeching off James Rolfe, I didn't discover Pat's stuff until YEARS after I saw the NWC video. Pat and Ian's success is entirely their own. And I don't even watch AVGN anymore!

I've watched both AVGN and Pat since very early days despite not bothering with subs back then. Pat Nes Punk and AVGN videos were often on the same UA-cam suggestions page long before any NWC video, or at least their older videos or clips were, I used to have to watch them on Screwattack at times. AVGN exploded much more in popularity but Pat was already well known in UA-cam retro gaming terms before their collaboration.
I wasn't much into UA-cam during the early days and therefore largely unaware of AVGN up until recent years. I found the CU Podcast independently and started watching it long before I watched any of James' stuff. Never even knew Pat was in an AVGN episode till a long time after I started watching the podcast. Pat may not be nearly as famous but his content nowadays is way better than what James has been doing.
Technically, Larry's name is still on the Channel Awesome website. When the site imploded back in 2018, he intentionally left his name on there until he was the last one standing because no one believed that he was a part of Channel Awesome. His content is still being posted on that site to this date. Although to be fair, I don't think anyone visits that site anymore what with the rise of UA-cam and how much of a mess the site is now. Bottom line; Larry's name is still on there.
