    Glad to see you teach the plough stop, it’s underrated. That last one is unsuitable for anyone with closed hips, such as me. There’s no way I can do it, despite being an experienced skater. Using side to side slalom to kill speed is effective, if the skater can do lunge turns. And the power stop is perhaps not so hard.

      The stops you describe are all OK if the thought in your mind is "I would like to stop now". What we are lacking in inline skating in general are those stops that you require when the thought in your mind is "oh no no no I gonna die!". The only two stops that come into mind in this situation is the rear rubber brake system, and the skin-to-bone brake system. The latter being more effective but much more painful.

    Have like 5-6 hours on skates so far (in my life) and somehow last technique for stopping is what i figured out faster than anything else, find it easier than using a break or steering and i don consider myself good since I'm mostly skating on a parking lot and in my apartment until my protective gear comes.

      @@jonettejoy9214 have no clue, i guess i just tried random moves that would enable me to stop. I fell down few times while figuring it out, but also once I knew how to do it, I still fell down. I don't have that many hours skating so I guess muscle memory isn't there yet to perform the move properly all the times.
      Also the last technique she showed was "the eagle" and that's the one I'm referring to.
      I guess opening outer leg and keeping the weight distributed equally on both feet's heels is how I manage it. But one side is obviously easier than other.
      Also I didn't skate for almost a year now (swedish bad weather and a twisted ankle from football) makes me avoid the skates for now.

    Thanks for the video, well explained. For the first stop, the lemon stop, it is not a good idea to completely close your feed again. If you don't stop completely at that moment your skates will touch eachother and you will fall. Better is when closing your feet push hard on the inside edges and keep your feet still open.

    • @baddan314
      @baddan314 4 роки тому +3

      It's also good to know that breaking technique rely on core stability. So it's normal to struggle at the begining. To master the T stop you must at first be comfortable skating on one leg. And then you have to let the second leg on the ground without losing balance. Finaly you progressively transfer your weight from the skating leg to the breaking leg. And as core strenght is crucial for skating and for braking, there's no secret : you have to practice so your muscles can become stronger.

      Adobso yes Tbrake damage the wheels but still it’s a commun way to stop... specially for beginner. At some point it’s still a technique many beginner like to use ... so it’s a great idea to stop but not a great idea for wheels :-)

  • @SK-ow4vw
    @SK-ow4vw 3 роки тому +1

    No, No, No, and No. None of these techniques should be aimed at beginners. Beginner should learn to skate in areas that they do not need to stop or they can use their rubber back break and in any case no beginner should be on the skates shown in this video. Method 1 - first of all you need the strength to do this in your hip muscles and your ankles, it is not about just bringing your feet together and also you have a good chance of falling backwards. This technique is also useless at high speeds. Method 2 - this will not work for beginners because it takes time to adapt your core muscles to counteract the natural tendency to rotate due the the torque generated by the trailing skate. If you don't believe me try doing this with your opposite leg. It is suddenly much harder than you think. This method is ALL about maintaining a perfect balance between the force you apply on the trailing skate and the counter force you apply with your core muscles - its quite tricky to get right. Method 3 is like method 1. It is used by professional speed skaters, but only for the reason that they don't want to wear down their expensive wheels by doing the more efficient T stop (method 2). Method 4 is REALLY asking for trouble and any reasonable speed. The angular momentum will fling you backwards unless you are going slowly our you have the ability to do a wide arc when going backwards.
    We have to be honest and say THERE IS NO GOOD WAY TO STOP ON INLINE SKATES. If you want to stop almost instantly and high speed then go to the ice rink where the thousands of loose fragments of ice you generate carry of your kinetic energy. Unfortunately for inline skates it is not possible to dig up the road surface, consequently any rapid breaking method in line skates is dangerous and is likely to put you way out of balance. The only thing that I recommend is to be VERY vigilant on what is going to happen in front of you.

    • @morrom9587
      @morrom9587 3 роки тому

      Interesting, Only being vigilant is no way to learn stop tech. In your case, how did you learn stopping ? Almost viewers coming here want to know how to. incl me.

    • @SK-ow4vw
      @SK-ow4vw 3 роки тому

      @@morrom9587 The truth is, I am vigilant. I skate on inlines on busy streets that I understand the flow of.I've been inline skating since 1993, I have done about ten thousand kilometres so far. I have fallen five times and I have never collided with anyone or anything (except the ground), I wear no protective gear at all. I know the little quirks, the people that cross without looking, the cars and buses that pass too close, the bicycle delivery people who are a bit random in their cycling habits, the dogs that don't like inline skates, the odd stones and twigs on the floor and cars coming from a side street (don't pass them unless they look you in the eye and before that look behind you to make sure you have enough space to swerve in case they do pull out in front of you). I leave 1 m clearance between parked cars in case the doors open (and a bit more for trucks), I don't skate directly behind buses because they stop quicker than I can. I always use the T stop to stop, but I don't often require it because I look out at what is ahead. One lucky point for me is that my city is more or less flat. If you are going downhill then you really to have a problem in inline skates.
      I am also an avid ice skater (I normally ice skate 8 hours per week). Here the difference is that I require less than one second notice to make a stop or avoid a collision. In inline skates I need about four times longer. That is a very big difference. Any stopping technique needs to be instinctive. As far as I have been able to work out, the stop described on this video is far from that since you need to have your body in the right position to made the backward transition and this takes time.
      My advice is go slow, go smooth, never skate out of control and learn to predict the future. Don't bother with fancy stops like this - I've managed for nearly 30 years without it. If you do live in a hilly place then you should definitely fit a rubber brake at the back of one of your skates and make sure it is an ultra solid fit. I had one when I lived in a hilly city in the late 1990's. I went full speed down the hill and then slammed on the brakes. Putting full weight on this brake essentially meant stopping on ONE heal (the other foot is off of the ground) - I was also on a bicycle path, not the road. This puts enormous pressure on the brake. I estimate that at 40 km/h you can stop in about 12 meters using this technique. This is by far the best way to stop. The reason I no longer use a rubber brake is that I do a lot of cross-over skating and the braked gets in the way since it makes one of my skates a little too long. I would say to you in any case, if you are skating where you find it difficult to predict obstacles then get a rear brake system and wear good head protection at the very least.

      Than how tf do I stop? If all these methods aren’t good

    • @SK-ow4vw
      @SK-ow4vw 3 роки тому +1

      @@jurzyuggs8862 Just get a rubber brake on your skates. You only get one shot at life as far as I know. Don't waste it on trying to do fancy stops. USE A RUBBER BRAKE SYSTEM AND WEAR A BICYCLE HELMET. The reason you need a bicycle helmet and not a skate part helmet is because bicycle helmets are generally more protective of both frontal and rear head impact. The down side is that they are for SINGLE collision use only. After it saves your life - buy a new one. So whatever the cyclists wear on their heads in the Tour de France - get one of those. Happy skating.
