Great break down on Justin’s drill, I’ve been battling over the top swinging with aggressive push slice. I will be taking this to the range this weekend!
Hi Harry, happy new year to you! I tend to struggle with throwing the club/coming over the top with my ball striking at times. Would love to see an in depth explanation on explaining this drill! Thanks!
Simple yet effective drill. Thanks for sharing. I’d love to see more, especially on how to sequence each drill and then how to put all these elements together.
Been doing this drill for years. My good consistency went up and my ball striking improved immensely. My range session with this is to pump this drill 2 to 3 times before every shot. Magic. When I play, same thing. I believe that if most amatuers apply the dropping the club in the slot and eliminate the sway in their swings, 90% of their full swing issues will be eliminated. There are some micro movements that will need to be tweaked but you can get around any golf course by not swaying and coming over the top.
This drill is absolutely brilliant! Watched this video, went outside to the net to give it a go and was finding more of the consistency that I've been struggling to find. Not only that, it really seems to help with takeaway rotation, and then with a better body rotation path through impact. I've had issues with getting stuck hitting longer irons and driver at times. I kind of lose my rotation path and have to figure out where I'm going wrong in the middle of the round which is frustrating. I tried it with my 5i, driver, and PW and it seemed to work great for all 3, and with a better rotation path, I noticed more distance with an easier swing. I see this as being a perfect drill to get things back in the groove when on the course. Can't wait for my next round! Cheers!
Great vid Harry, it defo helps with the feel to get the club in the slot and combined with ensuring the right wrist feels like is being pushed towards the ball to provide compression is giving some good consistency.
Great video. I have picked up an impact precision trainer recently and hope to take that and this drill to the range. When I’ve worked on this position and movement before with the GEM golf aid, I’ve felt compression for what feels like the 1st time ever and I’ve been playing for 30 years! I can do it at the range but not consistently on the course and that’s my goal for 2025. I need to drop a couple of shots to get into single figures for the first time.
@jeffpaul606 you're very welcome, it would be a very interesting video to do wouldn't it, if you know any golfers who struggle with the same issue outlined in this video, let's get this video past 30 comments and i'll include the driver in the over the top guide video!
@oneputtdean i understand you're frustration, use this but add pressure into the trail foot to start the downswing, this will help with stopping any early shift in the downswing!
@jammuu yes it can be, it all depends on your downswing fault, so my fault is getting too stuck on the inside and shallowing the club too much, whereas Justin roses fault is pushing the club the other way and getting almost over the top.

How does this drill make sense given an earlier video of yours where you say that, during the beginning of the downswing, the arms and club lower only because the knees bend, lowering the entire body, and so the arms/club come along with it...there is no 'arms only lowering' going on. Here's a link to your video I'm referring to: ua-cam.com/video/f11_benAfIA/v-deo.html
Very good description of the club sweeping out to the ball

Great will try it out

@StuartWilliams-c7l thank you, i'll definitely look into producing a video on this topic!
Love the concept……..easier said than done for me! Up over 30,000 subscribers……..Harry deserves it to now climb to 50,000……great instruction

@AZstu324 that's amazing to read thanks for letting me know, once you give this a try on the course let me know how you get on!
always like to see it demonstrated and watch the ball take off, good verbal instruction too
@billthompson3310 thank you, glad you liked the video style!

Really enjoying your videos Sir!
Me too. He makes a lot of sense.
Extremely helpful and well done.
Superb video I struggle with throwing club from top of backswing too!

I’ve been having issues with this. Thank you! I’d love to see this with the driver.

I have struggled with the over the top and this is a great drill to eliminate it.
@JackBass9 yes it certainly is, give this a try and let me know how you get on!
Yes please Harry. This is my No.1 swing fault.
Wish I can actually get the feeling to do this!
The vertical drop is so important I wish I would have understood it better years ago.
Hi Harry, I am not so much getting over the top, but I am getting too steep. Still, it could be very helpful to have you guide on curing OTT.
Great drill
@johnfeeney8562 thank you!
Yes definitely struggle with turning too early
Is this the same for driver?
Excellent drill. In an attempt to get my weight to the front, I tend to get my upper body way forward. Very frustrating!

Looks like what I need. I block it to the right a lot.
I struggle with generating club head speed whilst also not 'following through' post impact. Is the latter a mental problem?
Can this feel be combined with the drill from your previous video, on how to get the club back down in front after being set?
@jammuu yes it can be, it all depends on your downswing fault, so my fault is getting too stuck on the inside and shallowing the club too much, whereas Justin roses fault is pushing the club the other way and getting almost over the top.
Golf is hard. Tried this but still look too steep with not enough left hip getting out of the way.
Do I come over the top? Yes, and I can't imagine I'm the only one that would like to see your suggestions on this problem.

@harryshawgolf I actually don't really know any other golfers LOL, but this is another comment.
Yup… this is my fault club gets thrown outside. Struggling to fix…
@michaelgoodhand always here to help try this driver drill: ua-cam.com/video/xuuFnsqooLc/v-deo.html
