I have not seen anyone explain or have been coached to understand this better. I am new to your channel but have found it very informative and transferrable to practice quickly. You are very gracious in offering this content for free.
Harry, this clicked within 10 minutes for me. I spent the next 2 hours with extremely square contact. This has by far been the most impactful UA-cam drill in my game since starting. So simple but cleaned up so much. THANK YOU.
just can't tell you how much this helped me.... was doing it all wrong... and I was so 'trained' to exit wrong that as the video started I resisted your exit-towards-the-left-hip completely..... until I tried it a bit while I put you on hold.... suddenly, all my swing problems disappeared.... and ironically, re-aligning the exit of my hands to this new target got me pulling the down swing much more to an inside-out path, which was what I so desperately needed in my unload. Before, finishing the unload with my hands still going outward kept me from a full body turn, and caused me to 'quit' on its turn..... great lesson, Harry.... well done..
I’ve just found Harry on you tube . A great delivery of content easy to understand allowing a few pennies to drop for me, advice I had been given before but probably never understood in the way I do now after his lesson. I will definitely be taking this to the range tomorrow 👍
Thanks a million! This drill was very helpful for me. I’ve played two rounds since watching and am experiencing much better contact. I even had a 180 yd hole in one yesterday! Let’s not mention it was for a 3 after chunking my first into the water, LOL.
Harry new subscriber, great video one thing I don’t see enough on is the focus on the hands through a swing and if you have more we’d love to see it explained in your own words
This is fantastic. This has been an easy aadd for my irons. I still feel like the driver is slightly different, but I can’t quite put my finger on it. Could you do a similar video to this, but specifically for the driver release?
Been working on a lower exit with my hands for a while. This was a great explanation of how the proper swing plane encourages a low hands exit. I’ll be trying the drills. Best!!
I just learned this a couple of weeks ago by watching an uncommon front facing video of Tiger Woods doing a chipping practice. At that video angle I realized how open his chest is after hitting a ball and how low his hands stay (but not the shaft). I tried that at the range and it made a world of a difference! I now feel I'm hitting the ball with my whole body instead of just the arms and my shots are more consistent now.
I’m going to introduce a training aid in a video I post this Sunday that helps you hold the angle at speed. It really is a game changer so stay tuned for that!
I knew when I saw this technique it would be good. Went down the short course at my club and exiting the hands left my ball striking improved immediately. Didn’t care where the ball went it was the strike I was looking for and I didn’t do my usual of fat thins duffs etc etc. only thing I noticed was on a fuller shot I caught it fat is there a way to blend this into full shots I felt the amateur lunge with the body and club because of thinking distance.
One of the best sving videos I have seen on YT; thanks a lot for all the clarifications. I have one question about letting the hands go left in the follow through. You said something in line with... "at least when you are striking iron shots." It makes me wonder, is there a difference when you hit woods, and if so, what would that be?
@StefanKrafft thank you, with regards to your query... this technique will work with the woods and the driver but the different is ensuring you're still hitting up on the ball (getting the correct Attack Angle).
That's a good explanation, as always Harry! Maybe a good drill I may add could also place a glove under your lead arm (left arm) and prevent it from falling out in the release. At least this helps me I believe.
@wolfgangkehrer618 yes another great method to work the correct release pattern/ exit move as it forces you to continue rotating! Keep me posted with how this goes!
Love the content man. Would Live an equally well presented and explained video on hip turn. Better rotation in hips basically. And how to sync it all together. Thanks again.
Very little instruction seems to be focused on the exit of the swing ie. exit left. I have worked on this exit left swing this past season with moderate success when it comes to consistency. Would appreciate more drills in addition to those in this video to help groove this into the swing! Great video, thanks! Also, the left arm video takeaway seems to have the "Y" breaking down earlier in the backswing with the wrist set. Can you elaborate on how those two intersect?
@kenmauser3695 thanks for the feedback, note taken, glad you enjoyed the video. In terms of the Y this is just a simple way to control the takeaway and makes the exit move easier to achieve, there will be wrist set that'll take place to form the top of the swing, and from there the angle is formed to rotate and get the hand working "left". Hope this makes sense!
Very insightful. Might be helpful if, in a follow up video, you could focus on how body, head position and shoulders movements could help us blend this into our swing.
@peterdahl9455 great question and for me, this has worked, and it's worked for a lot of my students/ viewers as well. But it doesn't suit everyone with driver as the driver is designed to be hit off a tee. Give it a try and let me know your thoughts!
I've been "releasing the club" for 40+ years to add speed. I'm working on exiting left, but as I add speed it becomes much more difficult. You demonstrate a swing with an iron, are you able to make the same move with a driver? When I hit driver exiting left, I miss a lot of shots right? A straight push.
Did this for a few rounds in the last 2 days . When you get it right what a great shot it produces . I will definitely work on this . Hit some great drives too . Great video and explanation .
Hi, hơw to distinguish bunker shot and normal shot? Only in grip and wrist conditions? To me it seems low left hand after impact ( hence low hands at setup) promotes fading to cure toomuch draw and hook. Your idea?
@seniorswing8441 depends on how the left arm works, if the left arm moves correctly working our way into the downswing you'll have no problems with squaring the face up. Give it a watch and comment on that video letting me know your thoughts... ua-cam.com/video/ZAFfAupXFSw/v-deo.html
Watched this video and went immediately to my yard and my 9 iron and started swinging using this information It was definitely a WOW moment The ball flight was amazing…straight I’d like to see this video with the longer sticks 👍 Great video 👍⛳️👍
@bayougolf7524 that's amazing to read, thanks for commenting with your experience after using this method to exit in the golf swing. Please do keep me posted. And if you're ever needing a second opinion on what to work on next in your swing please reach out to me on skillest!
@sbreit1759 great question, a lot of things stay the same with this but because we hit driver off a tee i can think of a few tips for driver to help this on the way through. Note taken for a future video!
@jimlock6152 this can also be applied to the driver, however it'll be slightly different with us wanting to hit slight more up on the ball. I'll look into posting a video on this topic in Jan!
Hi Harry, fantastic video on the release. Would be helpful if you could share the hip rotation sequence for this release as I tend to be rather unstable doing this release. Either falling over or falling back.
@jjzen9759 thank you! Great video idea, hip rotation in the full swing coming up. It'll take me a while to get the video sorted but will aim to cover this topic in January! in the meantime, i have a video coming out focus on improving the downswing sequence with a few great tips for the backswing. I'd recommend giving it a watch... it'll be out tomorrow!
@stanleycollymore1110 yes but this helps with controlling the club face, so there's a balance needed between the two... when swinging faster, for more control of the face, we have to exaggerate the movement.
Harry. This somewhat confusing to me, for a lot of teachers would call this a body release and teach more of a hand release for they you should throw the club. Or am I getting the wrong idea? Great channel by the way and have subscribed
Hi David, thanks for commenting, there are different types of release patterns. Body release I can imagine means more rotation through the ball. This is that just holding the set angle for much longer. Thanks for subscribing!
Hmm….from a physics perspective, not rotating your hands through the hitting one seems like you are taking away a lot of potential speed. The power of the golf swing comes from parametric acceleration, aka similar to cracking a whip…if you were to not break your wrist while trying to crack a whip, you’d have a tough time making the whip crack. And, relying on your core to provide all your speed may work for a very in shape young buck, for the average golfer who doesn’t workout much, rotating the hands is a much easier method of gaining speed in the swing. Finally, if you look at most pros just after impact, their hands are already crossed over indicating they’ve rotated their hands through the hitting zone…
@@harryshawgolf it seems like the teaching aspect of golf has been lost to non-pga pros. Nowadays all you have to be is a good marketer and make videos copying what other people have put up. Catch the ball while hands still going out before back in and around…as always.
