(02/11/2023) In February 2023, some fibre optic cable work along a part of the Expo Line resulted in some rare day time single tracking between Edmonds & New Westminster.

how does single tracking work with driverless trains?

At the control centre people have the job of monitoring trains on a computer screen. This sometimes requires rerouting trains and controlling switches anywhere on the Expo and Millennium line. Every train is represented on screen and each train must have a free block / track section between the switches. If there is a complex situation or a computer disagreement or loss of contact with the operations centre, a Skytrain attendant can manually operate a train all while in radio contact with operations.
