- SkyTrain remains the world's oldest driverless rapid transit system. Even SkyTrain's chime, a three-note signal that tells passengers the train doors are about to close, shows how designers embraced the technology of the day.

I honestly think the MK1 acceleration/deceleration sound is more iconic than the chime.
I agree
I agree as well
Need this in Winnipeg instead of 35 more dealerships
SkyTrain would be a bad idea in Winnipeg. The trains don’t perform well in snow or freezing weather.
@@raymondyu412 agreed, thats why line 3 is being closed in Toronto and they never built more than one line.
@@GeorgeGabor19 True but Line 3 also had other problems. Line 2's extension should be better though.
@@GeorgeGabor19line 3 uses the exact same trains as the Vancouver system
Rode the sky train when I visited BC its cool. They even have ferries you can take within teh transit system that you can get on with a transfer
Ottawa could use a SkyTrain right about now. The LRT is a national embarassment.
What's wrong with the bus system in Ottawa? It was awesome back in the 90s !
@@mydroid2791 ...but then amalgamation happened.
The O-Train’s start has had a lot of problems but the system has good bones and it gonna grow in popularity as the city gets more populous. Ottawa is a small place to have such a system in North America but at the rate it’s growing it won’t be, and growth will hug the Confederation Line.
I’m on a skytrain watching this. So cool
2:12 pitch it up a bit and you get the Montreal Metro door chime
So the guy who made the door chime took inspiration from the same music than the guy who made the sound of Montreal's MR-73 trains around a decade earlier, interesting
Preventative maintenance to devise track issues all comes down to finding transit funding in car-centered Individualistic North America.
this was amazing consider that it was supported by both right and left provincial government.
I wish we would get the Skytrain in edmonton. LRT is honestly so horrible.
I remember when it was $1.25 to use the bus & train
Hire Bob Rock to get that slick production lol
2:06 Fanfare for the Common Man inspired by FDR VP Henry Wallace, who called for Century of the Common Man, as opposed to publisher Henry Luce's "American Century"
Calgary could never
"Was"
Even tho it still kinda is
Man first one to watch this. congratulations to me.
Proud of you bro
Happy Bilal day!
If not for the Ford brother's subway delusions, we'd likely be expanding our SkyTrain incarnation (Scarborough RT). Unfortunately, we have a "let's pay more for something that will do less" mentality.
My right foot is bigger than my left. I will never forgive the Ford brothers for this.
MK4 When?
Never actually. They're skipping from mk3 to mk5 in the coming months.
Except for non standardized cars that have to be custom made at no expense
No different than "Toronto Gauge" subway & trams.
Still years behind Japan.
The first automated metro opened in Kobe in 1981. So maybe a few years 😃. And I believe all the automated lines in Japan have a driver on the train, unlike Vancouver.
How?
was
Hi, have you ever heard of Japan?
Yes
Yes and skytrain Is currently the largest automated rapid transit system in the world in front of Copenhagen
@@AR-gj1qt and it's getting bigger
@@AR-gj1qt I think Singapore is also larger but their city is 3 times the size of ours. So well done vancouver
Now it's 20 years behind China's trains. 🤣
How so?
That's not true at all skytrain is one of the only automated rapid transit systems in the world and is the longest automated system in the world
Today on 14 of December 2022 I was waiting station # 61612 at 10: 15am just take out my ticket, there you go he not stop. Vancouver transit 👎👎👎👎👎
Nothing compared to the TGV in France.
You can't compare light rail with heavy rail
