997.1 turbo to 991.2 Macan Steering Wheel Swap

  • Swapped my 997.1 turbo steering wheel to GT style steering wheel from 2016 Macan bought on eBay. Easy swap, no dealer programming or module needed on manual transmission. Just need new steering wheel and air bag, got them used for lots less money again from eBay (search for Macan steering wheel).
    To get the steering wheel multi-function to work (or to get paddle shifter to work on Tiptronic), I had to swap out the center control/steering wheel module with part# 997.613.289.01. This will require programming from the dealer or someone with a PIWIS. I also had to get a STMV1 adapter from gpsadapter.us. I created a video (part #2) that documented this. I also removed the paddle shifters as my car is a manual and replaced the shroud with part #95B-419-798-B-5Q0 to cover the opening.

      Horn worked for me but my car is a manual so shift paddles were not applicable and were later removed. I do believe you need updated module for paddles to work with a TIP trans. I did swap out the center column piece which had the updated module so that I can get the car audio multi function controls to work. You will also need to get it programmed via the PIWIS at the dealer or use similar scan tool than can enable the appropriate feature/function.

    That is a sweet looking steering wheel great work documenting the process. Very interested in the swap for my 997.1TT.
    Keep us posted on the module and are you removing the paddles later? War the air bag plug and play?
    Will the Durametric Pro do the coding required? Do you have this posted in one of the forums?

    • @atm4jim
      @atm4jim  5 років тому +1

      For manual cars like mine, it was an easy swap, plug and play including the air bag (be sure to get the correct one and with the right connectors tan and yellow), no module needed, no programming from PIWIS (dealer), horn works, no warning lights. For cars with Tiptronic and for the paddle shifter to work, you will need the 997 613 289 01 module and dealer programming, don't think Durametric Pro has that option.
      I will be removing the paddles when my special order shroud arrives and will probably getting the gpsadapter soon to enable to multifunction and illumination. This is because my aftermarket head unit does not have a knob for the volume, lol. I hate using the up/down buttons for quick volume adjustment and got spoiled with my old multifunction steering wheel.
      There are several threads on various forums which made this very confusing for me and time consuming to figure out even with a friend who helped me out a lot.

      The tan will not fit the green connector. The airbag I got from eBay was modified so that it would fit. A slit was cut on the connector. Here's what the tan connector looks like - photos.app.goo.gl/Ch8jn3ZL7qvPtbkSA

      Yes, pretty much and remember to mark a line before removing. Unlike the old wheel, the new wheel had a center marking.

      Jim Wong Thanks. When I finally get into a 997, this is one of those must do mods. The newer Porsche wheels look amazing!

    Sorry, I just realized yours is a manual, obviously the paddle shifters don’t work, lol

      No worries, lol. It should work with tip, but will require programming by shop/dealer and new updated module 997.613.289.01.

    Hey brother, ive 997.1 Trip Turbo, i am so into doing this swap on my car also, could you please tell me what i need and where i can find with what code i need etc for trip horn etc to work also thank you so much

    • @atm4jim
      @atm4jim  4 роки тому

      My horn worked without any coding but I've read some people requiring a trip to the dealer. If you have a Tiptronic and want the paddle shifters to work, you will need the steering control module 997.613.289.01and have it programmed by the dealer or a shop with a PIWIS.
      If you have a manual transmission and don't need the multi function to work, it should be a direct swap.

      @@atm4jim how does the newer model air bag sensor connect with 997 plus. I don't understand thst part

    • @atm4jim
      @atm4jim  3 роки тому

      @@davidgrig7707 It's plug and play, but you do need to get a new airbag as the 997 airbag will not fit. It should have a yellow and tan connectors that matches the 2 airbag connectors from the steering wheel.
