I've played this game 12 times, and I've rewatched this video a number of times now, amazed at how everything's covered, even stuff that I forgot about. Thanks again, Ambie.
BIGGEST thank you for the video! We used your video to learn how to play couple weeks ago. My friend and I watched your setup & rules video when having our pre-game food (perfect length for it!) and then step the video through with play-pausing during the actual setup and our first round. The only time we opened the rulebook is for checking details on a tech tile, or to get clarification on tie breaks etc. Without the video I don't know when we would ever have time to read through the manuals together.
You're welcome! I'm glad it helped you get it played, and hope you had fun! One of the cool things about video is the ability to pause/repeat, so it's great to hear that my video worked with play-pausing.
This is a fantastic how-to. Fast without being too fast. And it hit some points that made me realize I'd been playing wrongly. Thanks for correcting my course!!
Thanks! It took me a long time too, plus we had to reread the rules in the middle of our first play (we played round 1 on a weeknight, then reread the rules before finishing). So I hope this video can help other people save time!
I know there's been a lot of discussion regarding the speed of this video. Personally, as someone who knows very little about the game, this video taught me nothing and indeed made me tense and unsettled. I had to stop it 10 minutes in. Maybe I'm old and slow, but my brain does not comprehend at this speed. Perhaps if I had a reasonable understanding of the game going in, I could follow this more easily. But as it stands, it turned me off to the game rather than being inviting. I think I'll go listen to David Minken for a couple hours and take it all in at a more leisurely and relaxing pace. If my teachers back in college spoke at this rate, they'd be summarily fired. I understand the desire to keep the time of the video relatively short, but this is ridiculous. Offputting to say the least.
Sorry the video doesn't work for you. But as you mentioned, there are other great board game instructional videos at a slower pace. As I state in the description, the purpose of my videos are to be quick (hence the 'blitz' name), so it's targeted towards a different audience. Hope you're still able to try the game out - it's a great heavy economic game.
If you have such a problem with the speed of the video, I recommend watching it at half speed (click the gear icon on the lower right). Personally, I usually have to speed up videos (to 1.25, 1.5, and sometimes even 2x) because they talk too slow, so I appreciate the speed.
Currently, the lower speed option is limited to 0.5 and that is too slow. I was also surprised to see how fast these are and my first thought was that there was some kind of mistake--but then I realized that this Blitz format is great for quickly understanding what happens in the game for newbies or for a refresher for veterans. It seems difficult to comprehend all the rules at this pace, but I don't think that's the point.
If you use Chrome, there's an extension called Video Speed Controller that lets you change the speed in increments of 0.1 (so you can do 0.8x or something).
Very good, but you talk much too fast for such a complex game. I know its 'blitz' but just a little slower. Just breath a little as the content is great.

After watching other videos this one helped me tie it all in. But I had to watch it at 0.75x. Still good work and keep it up!
Exactly the same, 90% of game videos I speed up to sometimes 2x. This is the first that I had to slow down. It seems very thorough though!

You're welcome! Thanks for the comment!
This is really impressive. Well done. Useful and engaging, and as far as I can tell, correct. Great job!
Thanks!
Tackling a big one! I'm saving this to watch later, but the bit I have watched is excellent, once again!
Are you on Twitter by any chance?
Rodney, it's @ambierona as well as @boardgameblitz.
This is impressive as it normally takes me 45 minutes to teach this to new players!
Perfect - thanks!
It's actually @bgameblitz - the other handle was taken :(
Bah, my apologies. But at least I got Ambie's right :(
...and Breath! Great job
Great job, thank you for making this.
thank you, keep it up :)
Very good.
great tut
Great video! I think it took me about 2.5 hours to figure out how to play my first game of Waterframe.
