Anachrony because we both love it and have spent to bling it out; Firefly because it was one of our first games that brought us into the hobby; 7th Continent because it was our first major Kickstarter, we have all the expansions/promos and is the game we probably have invested the most time into.

Great top 10! Always so interesting to hear how certain games resonate with people.
For me, my #1 is Hanamikoji. I absolutely love to introduce new gamers to this game, and the moment when they go "aha" after playing the first few rounds.

I believe this is the best representation of “Top 10s” at least for Board Games.
The two of you passionately elaborates, expounds and share the feats and aspects of the choice games in your list without overselling them too much or going on stale and tedious when elucidating them. It always feel natural and nice to listen to.
It very much convinces me to “hey I should definitely try this”. Although not all of course, but it reasonably helps me resonate more and consider a game before buying it.
Others are just like “ohh I really love this…” and “I just freakin’ love this game” without expressing themselves in a more understandable manner. I guess Top 10’s shares that “marketing-like” aspect of attracting people to give certain items a chance to be experienced and you guys always did that brilliantly alrhough the basic premise is just “expressing or sharing” which is inherently good. The top 50’s you did before? TOTALLY liked and felt that. Your Vital Lacerda inputs? Mind-blowingly exciting and interesting. You even convince me more to try On Mars (still saving money for it though since I just got Lisboa and Age of Steam) despite it being so intimidating and you guys both put it “the most complicated” of Lacerda’s games.
    This channel is a gem.

I love two rooms and a boom as my go to ice breaker / full group activity at a party. I think it plays at 10 people fine for a few rounds, especially if keeping it to basic roles. Would love to have a larger experience with the game though with some time to delve into different roles (every time I've set it up it's been at max 3 games).
This was a cool topic to cover as it got some more unknowns to think about if ever running across used copies or new printings.

Definitely some good choices there but a really big cheer for Ginkopolis, a game that has never been as popular as its unique play deserves. Watching you struggle to describe it was all too familiar, it's one of those games you pretty much have to play at least once before you can really grasp what it's doing, but once you get it, it just all clicks into place and makes perfect sense.

Even though I don't play it that much any more, I'd have to keep Puerto Rico because it is the game that solidified my love of board games and really got me in the hobby beyond the classics of Scrabble and Clue.
Another one I hold dear is Expedition: Northwest Passage. I love the theme and the mechanic of the water freezing over and having to put out your sled while worrying about getting back to your boat on time before the ice melts and possibly getting stranded on an ice flow.
Along the same lines is the game Raptor. It's not my favourite 2-player only game, there are so many great ones out there, but the theme and the way the game plays, as well as having taken a gamble on it without doing my now mandatory research on the game and finding it to be such a gem really endears it to me.
Everdell and Nemesis have been my top two games for the past two years, so I can't see them leaving my collection anytime soon.
The Gallerist is my favourite Lacerda game and I would hate to part with that one.
Then I have the original Arboretum in the green box and I will keep that forever.
The oldest game in my collection and this list is the 1963 3M edition of Acquire which is still an incredible game and plays so well.
Lastly I'll add Condottiere to the list because it's a great game in a small box and my board wouldn't lie flat so I kept trying to flatten it more and then it snapped. I ended up snapping the other part off as well and taping them together and that extra bit of character somehow makes me love the game that much more. And it lies flat now. 😜

I prefer Brass: Lancashire because it's a bit tighter and tougher of a challenge. Birmingham is a bit easier and more forgiving of mistakes. I prefer Agricola over Caverna and Le Havre over A Feast for Odin for the same reason. I like my heavier games to have pointy edges and force me to really think. Great video! I just ordered a copy of Hoity Toity off bgg marketplace. :-)

Brass Birmingham (I like Lancashire also, but not as much so I gave it to my daughter). Scythe with everything. Istanbul with the coffee expansion. Quacks with all the expansions and geek up bits. Castles of Burgundy. Port Royal with the contracts expansion (I'm on my third copy of that and will need to replace this one soon). Space Base with some of the expansion components.

Odd submission: My equivalent of this is actually a game my friend owns. He has a copy of Inkognito, a deduction game first published in 1988, and since I can't find it anywhere I'm very protective of his. My hope is that, now that he has kids, I can buy it off him and keep it myself.

Great lists! Totally agree with the sentiment that "deluxe edition" can be too much! And as long as the quality of the regular edition is at least passable I will go for that... I just want my games to be functional and space efficient. And if an expansion can't fit in the main box there is a good chance I won't buy it for the same reasons, even if it's an expansion for a game I really like :D

Our number 1 would have to be Kohaku. The wife and I just adore this game and play it to the wee hours of the night when we get it out and just keep playing just ONE more game. It had a pretty limited run, there were complaints about the acrylic tiles being sharp and those edges scratching the paint, but we sanded down all the edges and put on a coat of laquer on the back side and it has survived hundreds of plays in perfect condition so far.

I'd also never get rid of that awesome Nintendo shirt! As far as the games, somewhat surprising choices, but great stuff. I'd personally never get rid of a huge chunk of my games, including my Dominion collection (I've got every single card), my fully decked out Big Box KS version of Island of El Dorado, my signed copy of Stomple, my OG Space Hulk and OG Robo Rally sets, and ALL of my Star Wars games (I just love anything Star Wars). Some stuff I'm waiting on that I'll also probably never get rid of is my KS version of Endless Winter and the Big Box for Paladins and all the content for that game, including several KS promo cards.

Too many game night memories with my parents to get rid of it even though no one, even me, wants to play it anymore. Also never getting rid of trivial pursuit. It was the first game I bought as an adult in the 90s. Current games I would never get rid of is Sleeping Gods, wingspan and splendor.

Great list with some unexpected choices. For me, Gentes Deluxe, Spirit Island, Pandemics Iberia +Rising Tide + Fall of Rome + In the Lab, Troyes, Grande Hotel Austria, Antiquity, Dorn, Imperial Settlers, Antike Duellum, Notre Dame and Ra are the main contenders. Never played Scythe but that would probably be there too... ooooh, forgot Clans of Calendonia, how could I?

Very, very difficult to give a concise answer to that question, but I'd probably go with:
    - Abyss (+ expansions ; one of the first games my wife and I bought, and we still love it to this day)
    - Cascadia
    - Calico (both these games are so simple, yet offer just the right amount of brain-burning to make us (and anyone we've introduced them to) want to come back to them again and again)
    - Everdell (technically getting rid of this game to replace it with the Complete Collection, but that title is not going anywhere - gameplay aside, its entire universe resonates so much with the Redwall books I was so enamoured with as a child/teenager that it has quickly become the centrepiece of my collection)
    - Hadrian's Wall (so satisfying as a solo game; it looks daunting at first, but then the pleasure of triggering all those chain reactions kicks in, and it's hard to get bored while playing)
    - Scythe (I think I needn't add to what you've already said)
    - PARKS (beautiful, relaxing, and again, just the right amount of challenge to it).
This list will probably become far longer with all the Kickstarters arriving at the end of the year / Q1 2022.

We've tied all of those except for Abyss (the box art draws me in so much!) and Hadrian's Wall. Hopefully there wont be too many delays in KS shipping due to the global shipping problems going on.

@@BeforeYouPlay Abyss is a wonderful game with fantastic components and artwork, is very easy to teach, and really underrated :-) Admittedly it plays best with both its expansions added on (they give the core game far more strategic depth, and fix some of its less interesting mechanisms), but if you get the chance, jump in! As for Hadrian's Wall..... a pure endorphin factory.

My sacred titles that am not getting rid of:
Agricola original version. This was my entry game into heavier euros and I loved it. I have most of the alternative decks that are out of print for it
Le Havre. Also a beloved Uwe Rosenberg game for me
Advanced Civilization. Nowadays superseded by Western & Eastern empires, but I will stick to my orginial version. Great game with pretty unique mechanics. However, it is almost impossible to get to the table outside of conventions since you need minimun 5 people committing a full day to play it.
Anachrony Infinity box. Recent purchase that won't be reprinted. Great thematic euro game with top notch components. (The metal resource cubes are so wonderful)
Terraforming Mars. Awesome game. The Big box edition with metal cubes gives it a delightful table presence

Talisman (1983 Original), Knightmare Chess 1 & 2 (Original, not the reprints), Stone Age (w/o the expansion), Das Buch zum Spielen (Rare Catan expansion), and Cosmic Encounter(2000 Avalon Hill) would be a handful of games I would never get rid of. Most of which are out of print and they are just awesome to play. Some my most favorite game experiences were with these games.

Hi Monica, there is an expension to Café game called Café:Expresso. Are you thinking of getting this one too?

  • @lazulin
    @lazulin 2 роки тому

Witness! What a gem! Too bad it's so hard to get a copy. I also love Castles of Burgundy, although if they ever released a pretty or thematic version, I'd want it. Ginkgopolis is one of my absolute favorites too; I'm thrilled to see it in print again - it's just such a unique drafting game. Obsession is one of my absolute favorites and also absolutely unique, so not going anywhere. Also, yay for Brass Lancashire love - it's my favorite, but most seem to favor Birmingham, which always feels clunkier (albeit more forgiving) to me. After you list, I'm even more eager to find Cafe, even though it's super hard to find.

My 10 games I would never get rid off (from 1 to 10) : Shogun, Cosmic Encounter, Las Vegas, AquaSphere, Yunnan, The Staufer Dynasty, Manilla, Colossal Arena, Istanbul and Die Sieben Siegel (aka Wizard Extreme)

As a completionist, some of the games I’ll keep forever are more ‘series’ than individual games: 1st edition Descent, Android: Netrunner, Commands and Colors: Ancients.
Then there are the “grail games”, ones I pined for for years before I finally got them: Napoleon’s Triumph, Kanban EV and CO2: Second Chance.
There are a few that would be so hard to replace that I would hate to part with them: Starcraft, Gears of War
And finally, the favourites - not the “new hotness”, but enduring classics; several of which I’ve played hundreds of times: Tash Kalar, Fire in the Lake & Andean Abyss, SPQR, Mr Cabbagehead’s Garden

I know some people that love netrunner. I bought it and almost all the expansions and sold the set when they announced it was ending print. Never enjoyed it and I come from an MTG background. I never felt like when I won it was my doing but sheer happenstance.

I have most of the Alea big-box series, which includes "Adel Verplicht" (#5 in the series). I would never let any of that series leave my collection. "Castles of Burgundy" is #14 in that series. Totally agree with Ginkgopolis, Obsession, Kanban original, Panamax, Feast for Odin (with Norwegians), Goa, and Bruges. I would never also never get rid of Die Macher, 1841, 1856, 2038, and all of my Splotter games.
