    Welcome to Chasing Latitudes! Have you ever imagined the smell of the ocean air as your boat crashes through the waves? The freedom that comes from casting off the bow lines and heading out to sea to explore new places you can’t reach by car or airplane? Then this channel is for you.
    You will not see white sand beaches here, restaurant reviews, beach parties, selfies or Japanese knives. What you will find is factual information based on decades of sailing experience.
    My channel is specifically meant for one thing and one thing only, to help YOU find your new to you fancy-dancy yacht of your dreams and get on the water in the fastest, most time efficient manner.
    Don’t get caught up in looking at old boats! I focus on mostly newer vessels, built in 2000 or later because I want you to spend as much of your time as possible sailing, not practicing your restoration skills on an old boat attempting to bring it to its former glory.
    You want to take advantage of the amazing newer technology and modern hull designs when it comes to sailing. This is going to make your vessel far easier to sail solol or short handed and make them far more comfortable and efficient to live aboard full time or even just weekenders without buying more boat than you need.
    I offer a wide variety of services including consulting where I will take you through the entire process of how to budget properly, choosing what vessel size will work for your needs, what type of vessel, I will help you shop for vessels, determine offer prices, schedule surveys, talk with brokers, teach you how to do your own pre-survey, walk you through hiring the correct surveyor and help you avoid all of the common pitfalls that you will find when purchasing used sailing vessels.
    The consulting does not stop there, I will be with you every step of the way and long after you have purchased your vessel as consulting also comes with lifetime access to the members area,.
    Chasing Latitudes hosts a large, active private members area where the members are more than happy to offer their own experience to solve problems, host private videos for ASA Sailing quizzes (ASA 101, 103, & 104), and live stream videos which feature anything from member cruising to boat shopping, boat comparisons, and other live content with chat from the subscribers to my UA-cam channel and channel members.
    It’s time for YOU to get on the water. Come aboard!

    I’m not “anywhere” near ready for a boat but your videos give me hope. Thank you for the intelligent breakdown of what to look for. P.S. I think your swearing is hilarious! If someone complains just tell them “I’m’ah SAILOR!”

    It's such an exciting journey and a truly fulfilling experience. Dual helm sailboats are a fantastic choice as they offer great maneuverability and control while out on the water. Don't forget to thoroughly inspect the boat and take your time to find the perfect one for you. Wishing you fair winds and calm seas on your new adventure! 🌊⛵️

    If I NEED a three cabin sailboat (family of five, would like to add guests at times) what’s the best option. I know you trash three cabins but whats the best 40-50foot option? Love the commentary by the way.

      @ChasingLatitudes  6 місяців тому +1

      family of five with guests you should jump to a 50 , something like the jeanneau 509/519 or an oceanis 50, depends of course on what type of sailing you are planning

    Hey Chris what’s your thoughts on the Hanes 348?

    • @ChasingLatitudes
      @ChasingLatitudes  6 місяців тому

      Not a bad boat however for the 150ish that they are currently going for I would grab the oceanis 38 over it, again this is just me and based off my personal preferences of the layout. I have never found hanse to be super user friendly, usually has an odd layout that I find doesn't make much sense HOWEVER, you can legit get like a 2023 for the 150 vs a 2017 ish 38 for the same price, tough choice but for me I love the oceanis 38 open bulkhead so much I would always go with the benteau

      Hi Chris just discovered your site so excuse me you have already ready covered this topic - Beneteau’s and the keels causing problems some,serious
      Any future topics on Southerly’s and the lifting keels. Not quite ready to make my purchase yet .

    • @Boatlessguy
      @Boatlessguy 6 місяців тому

      Majority of issues with keels come from hard groundings that go uncorrected by owners ... the "full keel smile" is testament to even full / incapsulated are not immune to hard groundings despite Arm-Chair Sailor's boasting
      Swing keels, Lifting Keels, Center Boards have more operating systems to be regularly maintained ... big benefit is only of use if majority of your sailing area is shallows ... a con would be the checking, maintaining and repair of any issues with them

    Is the Hunter 39 adequate for ocean crossing?

    • @ChasingLatitudes
      @ChasingLatitudes  6 місяців тому

      Well Hunter-Marlow say its an ocean crossing vessel. You would need to outfit it pretty heavily for ocean passages in my humble opinion including but not limited to beefing up the standing rigging

    Oceanis rated best ? These boats have a huge mast pole at your dining table. No plans to invite pole dancers on each an every dinner. Do you?

    Good boat but doesn’t even compare to a Catalina 385

    • @ChasingLatitudes
      @ChasingLatitudes  6 місяців тому +8

      I don't think you understood the video so let me help you, first there were 7 boats mentioned so when you say "good boat" I have no idea what you are referring to. Second these are dual helm vessels, the Catalina is a single helm. Third, these are all priced around 100k the Catalina 385 goes for around 225k , over 100k difference. Fourth the Catalina 385 for 225 pales in comparison to literally every other sailboat priced similarly. To clarify further , myself as a sailor with over 200,000. N.M sailed , one who has obtained his 6 pack Capt license, his 25 ton license, his 50 ton license, as well as 8 Atlantic crossings, I can say without a doubt the Catalina 385 is a vessel I would never recommend purchasing as it's an over priced P.O.S
