Hi Igor. Just watching this video of yours, and I have mentioned in mast Furling Main Sails before with you, and probably mentioned how important they are for UV protection of Sailcloth and the ease of handling they offer. After having a ClassicMast and Stackpack on my last Sailboat, my need for in Mast Furling to be able to keep Sailing, due to disability became clear as did the need for a Custom Battenless Furling Msin, to dramatically reduce or even eliminate Main Sail Chafing Wear and Tear from the Battens. So my search for a Sailmaker that would make a Triradial Main, with thee Reinforced Reefing points started, and all of the responses I was getting were - Sorry, Se Only Do them with battens - eventually, I got to Precision Sails and they replied with - yes, we do them, and have made several, and as a postscript they said - By the way, we have found that Triradial Construction restores most of the Power Lost by not having Battens ! I’m not sure if I mentioned that bit before So for a Cruising Sail, to me they sound ideal, and because of the Triradial Construction, and reinforced Reefing points, their Service Life and Shape retention should be greatly extended as well. Hopefully that is useful information for some people, plus there is a good update, pretty much All Sailmakers today will make them, and I hope to have an experimental Sail for in Mast Furling, where the third Reef is specially constructed and so,it into two Staysail Reefs. It will probably take a few attempts to get working right and reliably though, but could be useful for heaving to in exceptionally strong winds ? Best Wishes, and thanks for the great Videos with their discussion points. Bob in Wales. 🤔🌟🌟🌟👍🏴🇬🇧⛵️

Hope to meet you one day Igor. As a fellow sailor your “say it like it is” comments about the boats you are working on are real. Hi again. A tip on potentially a really good 2 piece reachable oversuit for Sailing. Golf Bad Weather Clothing . I bought a Golf Oversuit to try when Motorbike Touring, a d it's the best oversuit I've ever had, and good to in excess of 150 mph on a Motorbike. Cheap off Ebay too. The Most breathable soft fabric I've ever had, which occasionally was a bit of a disadvantage, as the evaporative cooling off the outer Surface was so efficient, my legs would start freezing. In extreme heat, it was superb over a Joe 90 Armoured Mesh 2 piece suit, plus could pour water over it to get extra evaporative cooling. Cabela's American Hunting clothing, is excellent value for extreme cold gear, if you can stand the vivid Hunting Orange Colour - good for safety though. Big mistake I made with it, was adding the warmest jacket over the Salopette leggings, which even in extreme Cold, turned out to be a far toonwarm combination (I think it was good enough for Alaska level extreme cold temperatures). Comfy enough to sit out in the aft Cockpit of a monohull though, with the Jacket Zips Undone enough to get some cooling air circulation. Great base layer thermals as well though. Wirthnlooking at alternatives to dreadfully overpriced Sailing Clothing. At maybe 10 to 20 percent of the price for superior options. Skiing Clothing seems to be just as afflicted with the Chronic overpricing virus, but good deals can be found during the Summer. 👍 Bob.

I made it from Portimao to Sardinia in February single handed with a Nautitech 46 open model 2018 and found the arrangement of the saloon better. Instead of the kitchen is dog berth the table is at the navigation place, the kitchen is at the table and the plotter over the freezer. So if you lay on the dog berth you have the screen in view. Rest is similar.
Hi Igor, I asked the expert at the Lagoon Factory exactly this question (during my factory visit in March), about sailing without the Main up. He said, we like the main up so that it steadies the whole of the mast. It stops it 'whipping' half way up. The main sail adds a uniform load to the mast. I always imagine being caught in a real gale and want to sail with just a heavily furled Jib that I can furl completely if necessary without having to turn into the wind and waves.. If lagoon have their way, i would indeed have to turn my Cat into wind, in big seas in order to drop the main. Not great if it really is that bad.
@Ray Hendricks Lagoon has to explain how to sail downwind across the ocean. If you have main up it is usually banging to much. So you can only use front sails.
Another nice video - This is the second video of yours that I am watching. This year I am trying to get into sailing classes and learn. These cats are so spacious and smooth, I can picture myself enjoying ocean on one. Thanks!
I skippered a nautitech 46 open from la Rochelle alway up to panama then passing the locks of panama and up to Vancouver. The problems I had where the axles of the ruders where wobbling because the puty around the bearings was still flexible (not enough harder in the epoxy mix). Then we also had problems with the reef lines...they where shaving coming out of the beam by the gooseneck. And the waterpump from the engine was allready broke when we arrived in Lanzarote.(factory issue).
Just found your channel, Love your your style, excellent content!! I know who to call for my Delivery next year, UK to Croatia! Cheers, Nigel and Christine
People prefer an island berth with walking space on both sides, not squared off at the foot as you mention. This aids in making the bed day after day, something you may not do on your boat. Nautitech tried to address that slightly with the cutouts in lieu of an island. Great video and reviews, I really enjoyed it!
Regarding downwind: If I were sailing across an ocean, I’d make the crossing by any means that did not unnecessarily stress the boat. As for the mast taking the energy from astern, that’s what a backstay is for, and I’d want to have the right kind of rigging with that in mind before setting out.
I need a lotto win... a new cat... and I would definitely be looking you up Igor to teach me how to sail a Cat. One of the best channels with which to learn... more practical details about sailing. Thanks!!
Love the entire video as always so a huge thank you. Just one idea, you could edit the “boat review” sections of this mammoth video and publish them as a stand alone “boat review” UA-cam video. This will get you a TON of views at relatively (😂😂😂) little extra work. Loads of your past videos also have the most insightful practical sailing reviews which are brilliant and deserve more UA-cam hits and kudos!
Great cat and a great report. Regarding the rail and opening of main sail - the rail should not be wider but closer to the mast. Probably 1/3 to 1/2 to the mast. Then you get also the angle required. And possibly a boom vang to pull down the boom.
@@IgorStropnik Funny ... right after watching your clip, I was busy to compare JPK 39 FC and JPK 11.80 (which one to buy ?) - and there I immediately realized why the traveller on 11.80 is placed in the middle of the cockpit ... 🙂
I've been rummaging through youtube looking for all the bluewater sailing of cats and tri's that I can find. 5min in great video thank you for making... if you ever having difficulty remembering how you want to say something in English, just say it in your native tongue after you've tried in English and one of the viewers will likely pick up what you meant and translate it for you ;) The people of you tube are like sub communities all with common tastes and interests... thank you again for making this video! I hope to see some blue water action as continue to finish watching this video - I'm interested in hearing and seeing how different cats perform out in the blue where Neptune's temper can swell. *edit looks like some of those beds could get replaced with hammocks! lol
Nice honest review, yeah not a fan of those helm stations especially the lack of something to stop you going off the scoops. HH44 have a great idea for this area which I think will be adopted by the industry and just makes sense.
Chalk and cheese comparison. Designed for difference purpose. However lagoon could reduce its weight and increase its mast to improve sailing performance.
The raised edges to horizontal sursfices are called "fiddle rails"...obviously ignored in this boat. Quite a labour intensive work - thus expense - in construction.
Hi we did relatively the same leg on the same new boat ,we have 1 leaking hatch (forward window ) , and the problem with the window to the cockpit it was go out about 2 cm, and the plastic in the corner of this window was delaminated , first reef was broken as well
@@IgorStropnik I'm over in Europe next summer and serious debating whether i should charter a yacht for a few weeks and get you to skipper. Your channel is really good in that you go into a lot of detail on the boats and of course your experience crossing the bay of biscay is actually very insightful. Found your thoughts on on this boat having a better centre of gravity interesting in terms of handling.
Hi Igor, i would like to see you do a walkthrough of the Neel 66 and the new Widercat and hear your opinions on them. I assume you could captain a larger boat like those 2?
Very nice videos you do! Could you pls tell me if the fuel tanks have seperation walls integrated, so that with half full tanks one doesent hear the "splashing" noise of fuel moving in the tanks. Thank you.
WOW, what a long video you done. I certainly learnt a lot from watching your videos. I think the inside helm station would be good for someone who needs back and neck exercise. LOL But seriously, what you suggested was a good idea. Do you own Sandyline or are you a majority shareholder....LOL I certainly hope Nautitech is watching this video and take note. In fact they should get you as a designer for their yachts. Tell them I sent you..LOL
G'day Ivan, I love your work mate.. just wondering what that downrigger is for, I assume it's a downrigger, it seems to have flat tape or hose, anyway I know your busy, if anyone else knows what it's for, my curiosity would be appeased, much appreciated in advance. 🙏😊
I don’t think lgor was quiet for 30 seconds in the whole video. I really like it is very informative. he does miss too much. But I watch all of his videos. He is very funny.
Igor, I hope you see this new comment on this 1 yr old video. I have an idea which I would phrase as a question. Earlier in the video you were talking about how the manufacturer did not like sailing with just the headsail alone. As Catamaran do not have a back stay to support the mast. I was thinking you could use the idea of your advanced jibe preventer, and with sails down, reinforce the boom’s down pressure with two lines, one to each stern corner then take the halyard from the sail and attach to the stern end of the boom. This could create an “advanced backstay” and support the mast from the stern when sailing with just a big headsail. So my question is, what do you think of this idea?
@@IgorStropnik it seems to me the only support on the mast a sail would provide is the down pressure from the halyard and the sail, so it shouldn’t take too much pressure to equalize this. However, I would ensure all lines used are not stretchy, like a halyard line is not stretchy lie docking lines. To make it very stable I would obtain halyard style lines ensure very strong cleating on the end of the boom for attachment. Use the main sheet initially to estimate needed tension, then install the Y lines to the boom. Once the tension is on these non-stretchy lines, release most of the pressure on the main sheet, but keep it quite taut. Then raise your code 0, or spinnaker.
As for that Triton2 instrument (as well as with other brands), I wonder why they are keeping the display for wind like in the old days with electromechanical arrows like course up always. It would be way more intuitive if the boat contour (which is your reference) is moved with the heading relative to north up so it would be in concurrence with the display on the MFD which is by most sailors set to north up as well.
Always valuable informations Igor on all your videos! Perhabs one advice - please work on your voice (voice trainer) and your sound (sound engineer). It`s very noisy and pressed and sqeaky. Reduce also a bit the content and make some pauses. Just a best-meant advice.
You should note down Ground speed and speed through water. Then subtract Ground speed and plot a graph. That part that is proportional to your speed is the calibration error. So you can correct your factor by multiplying this to the old factor. Note the factors!!
Do you think it would have been better to have a Parasail or a symmetrical spinnaker for the downwind sections as I find going downwind on my helia with a Code 0 and Main Painfull especially if there's a big swell and the main is flopping around? Also a huge thank you for the explanation for a wing on Wing as I have never got that to work and now I realise why, using the main to bounce the wind, Will this work with a Gennaker as it's a slightly bigger sail and comes back further. I also agree on Square top main what a pain they are and avoid them if you can as getting it past lazy Jacks is an art form on its own lol. Those helm positions in Australia would cook you in the Northern latitudes and the lack of visabiliy in marinas would stress the hell out me or did you get used to it?
Parasail is amazing, look at my video of Lagoon52 delivery. I put main down many times and just use code O. You can go wing to wing with code 0 and jib very well. Wing with genaker also works.
Hi my friend I’m new to sailing and I’m looking to buy a catamaran leopard 50, can I ask how much it would cost to have you captain my boat for two months purely for learning purposes and to feel comfortable on the water, I’m a beginner and would absolutely love to learn off you! Kind regards, james
Bonjour Igor, merci pour cette superbe vidéo vraiment très sympa, le seul bémol, en cours de vidéo le langage français ne fonctionne plus, pour moi qui suis une quiche en anglais 🤪 c'est dommage.
Lagoons were breaking bulkheads due to a problem with desighn and manufacture process not sure if the desighn flaw was corrected or what was done to plans and desighns
Awesome video- thanks! 1) What brand and model PFD do you use? It looks comfortable. Do you like it/pros vs cons? 2) Does Lagoon comment on if have main sheet tight does that influence their decision? I thought that with tight mainsheet that functions to a large degree like a rear stay to prevent some forward mast movement. Is that true?
Gosh! At last...Actually a proper catamaran sailing video, rather than endless images of sunsets and mixing smoothies.
Thanks 🙏

Nice honest review, yeah not a fan of those helm stations especially the lack of something to stop you going off the scoops. HH44 have a great idea for this area which I think will be adopted by the industry and just makes sense.
Thanks 🍻
Chalk and cheese comparison.
Designed for difference purpose.
However lagoon could reduce its weight and increase its mast to improve sailing performance.
learn something new on all your videos. thank you
Thanks Mike 👍🍻
Beautiful boat.
🙌👍
Dude best sailing channel. Love it
Thanks 🍻
The raised edges to horizontal sursfices are called "fiddle rails"...obviously ignored in this boat. Quite a labour intensive work - thus expense - in construction.
Love your reviews!
Thanks 🍻
Loved the whole video. My favorite part was you adding meat to the veggie pie 😂
Thanks 🙏
Excellent video of the trip
Thanks David 👍🍻
Brilliant Igor, i always enjoy your videos, what it is really like on a particular boat.
Thanks Richard 👍🍻
Hi we did relatively the same leg on the same new boat ,we have 1 leaking hatch (forward window ) , and the problem with the window to the cockpit it was go out about 2 cm, and the plastic in the corner of this window was delaminated , first reef was broken as well
Common problems with many different catamarans.
Can't wait for you to sail a bali 5.4 and get your review
🙌👍
@@IgorStropnik do you think high bridge models are less safe or more bobbly and top heavy?
@@flaron352 For racing absolutely but that is cruising boat so comfort matters the most. I like flybridge a lot.
another great video and commentary :)
Thanks 🍻👍
I learn so much from your videos. Really appreciate them! You should buy a drone to film all the amazing locations you go to!!!
Thanks 🍻
Tnx Igor, again a very useful video with a lot of alpha!! Would love to see you deliver a TS5 and or Outremer 51.
Thanks 🍻 Hopefully one day👍
@@IgorStropnik I would definitely hire you if I buy a TS5/ORC50 to send it to BVI or further.
@@ultrarekt5114 let’s do it 👍
You should be working for a boat manufacturer. Your points makes sense.
Thanks 🙏 🍻🙌👍
3 Cheers for your great videos.
Thanks Jim 🍻
Super video of crossing
Thanks 🍻👍
@@IgorStropnik I'm over in Europe next summer and serious debating whether i should charter a yacht for a few weeks and get you to skipper. Your channel is really good in that you go into a lot of detail on the boats and of course your experience crossing the bay of biscay is actually very insightful. Found your thoughts on on this boat having a better centre of gravity interesting in terms of handling.
@@timmywilson Thanks 👍🍻Welcome to Croatia!
Hi Igor, i would like to see you do a walkthrough of the Neel 66 and the new Widercat and hear your opinions on them. I assume you could captain a larger boat like those 2?
Hope I do 👍🍻
Great vid again.
Have to ask what the Stainless reel is next to the helm on Port side .
It’s dynema shore line when you drop anchor and take stern line ashore. Thanks 🙏
@@IgorStropnik Thanks for the reply .
Very nice videos you do! Could you pls tell me if the fuel tanks have seperation walls integrated, so that with half full tanks one doesent hear the "splashing" noise of fuel moving in the tanks. Thank you.
Thanks! I am off boat now so can’t check the tanks.
WOW, what a long video you done. I certainly learnt a lot from watching your videos. I think the inside helm station would be good for someone who needs back and neck exercise. LOL
But seriously, what you suggested was a good idea. Do you own Sandyline or are you a majority shareholder....LOL
I certainly hope Nautitech is watching this video and take note. In fact they should get you as a designer for their yachts. Tell them I sent you..LOL
🙌👍 I use Sandiline since 2012. The best equipment!
G'day Ivan, I love your work mate.. just wondering what that downrigger is for, I assume it's a downrigger, it seems to have flat tape or hose, anyway I know your busy, if anyone else knows what it's for, my curiosity would be appeased, much appreciated in advance. 🙏😊
Thanks 🙏 It’s Igor 😃 What’s downrigger? Fishing pole?
I don’t think lgor was quiet for 30 seconds in the whole video. I really like it is very informative. he does miss too much. But I watch all of his videos. He is very funny.
The shape of the bed makes it easier to put sheets on the mattress.
I prefer to sleep easier 😃
Good idea. Halyard might work 🙌👍 Will try it🙏
@@IgorStropnik it seems to me the only support on the mast a sail would provide is the down pressure from the halyard and the sail, so it shouldn’t take too much pressure to equalize this.
@@davidloewen5528 Good idea 👍
As for that Triton2 instrument (as well as with other brands), I wonder why they are keeping the display for wind like in the old days with electromechanical arrows like course up always. It would be way more intuitive if the boat contour (which is your reference) is moved with the heading relative to north up so it would be in concurrence with the display on the MFD which is by most sailors set to north up as well.
Instruments are in still in dinosaur age
Always valuable informations Igor on all your videos! Perhabs one advice - please work on your voice (voice trainer) and your sound (sound engineer). It`s very noisy and pressed and sqeaky. Reduce also a bit the content and make some pauses. Just a best-meant advice.
Thanks 🙏 It was filmed with gopro and a lot of noise around. Working on it-bought Dji mic.
very good video
Thanks 🙏
Best pie review ever! lol
🙌🍻
Good sailor buddy
👍🙌🍻
Maybe you need running backstays to sail down wind with screacher
Would be nice to have 👍
And add a boom vang for downwind

Hi, how tall are you. I'm 1.86m and was interested in an Open 40 or 46, but I haven't been on one yet. I learned a lot on your video. Thanks.
190cm Thanks 🙌👍🍻
Hi my friend I’m new to sailing and I’m looking to buy a catamaran leopard 50, can I ask how much it would cost to have you captain my boat for two months purely for learning purposes and to feel comfortable on the water, I’m a beginner and would absolutely love to learn off you!
Kind regards, james
Bonjour Igor, merci pour cette superbe vidéo vraiment très sympa, le seul bémol, en cours de vidéo le langage français ne fonctionne plus, pour moi qui suis une quiche en anglais 🤪 c'est dommage.
Thanks 🙏 There should be automatic translation.
Someone needs to show this video to nautitech
They have seen it 👍🍻
Lagoons were breaking bulkheads due to a problem with desighn and manufacture process not sure if the desighn flaw was corrected or what was done to plans and desighns
Pdf is Decathlon. They say boom lift is not good as back stay.
Love your videos, Igor.
Question… What brand and max size of catamaran would you recommend to sail singlehanded?
You can sail singlehanded almost anything but docking in marina from flybridge might be more challenging than sport top.
