As for me, the 90ies were the years, when Lukather played the best solos ever. Of course he is still the guitarist who's style I love the most but due to aging a little bit of dynamics will disappear. But hey, that is absolutely okay and he does not have to prove anything anymore as he appeared on tons of records during his career! All I can say is a big "Thank You" to Luke for all the great music he composed and all the outstanding guitar works he brought to light. There are so many things we guitarists could learn from him! Thanks a lot for sharing this great analysis! Excellent job! Love it! Cheers DimiZ
I still have trouble with Luke's shredding parts, and you seem to figure them out perfectly Dave, great work! One of his most beautiful solos I think, blows my mind to think he improvised it...
Thanks Dave. Been working on this solo for a long time. Watching Luke’s live footage and Marco Sofgili’s video. Especially the shred section of it. But man I was so pumped to find this today. Especially the theory thoughts and discussion. Brilliant. And I think you nailed it in all aspects of playing, transcribing and teaching it. Great job man.
Thanks Ryan! I’m glad you got so much from my video. I think this is the format that I am going to go for in future videos. Start of the solo, talk about why it works and what makes it so great at the end.
Wonderful lesson Dave:) all killer but especially always really liked those melodic intervalic leaps and the cool runs. Doesn't look easy this one lol;)
Cheers Alex. I elaborate on those runs at the end of the video just give a bit more insight on where they are coming from. You’re right, it’s not an easy solo 😃
sir please I'm begging you, I hope you also make a tutorial on ill be over you live in MONTREUX 1991, I'm having a hard time understanding lukather's shred. that solo is also beautiful 😭
BRILLIANT! Thank you for sharing the breakdown of this legendary solo! By any chance, do you plan to cover the Paris 1990 Hold The Line solo ? Some licks remain complete mysteries...!
Hey man!. How did you figure out that Luke´s fast run in this solo is played at full pelt regardless of the rhythm and not thinking in mathematical subdivisions over the beat?. I ask this because I am trying to get better at figuring this things out. Your tutorials are great!
Thanks man! The main tool I used is the software Transcribe. You can slow things down, loop sections etc.. Other than that it’s just years of experience transcribing.
Thank you so much Dave. This is awesome. Do you happen to have the tabs for this all in one place as I find I pick it up quicker when I can print them off. Many thanks. Just subbed to your channel. 🤘🏻🎸
Great tutorial. What do you mean by playing the fast run in 4 notes per beat instead of what is written that is 7 notes per beat?. Does it just mean playing this run as fast as you can with no particular mathematical subdivisions?
Thanks! I think the bit you are referring to is where there are 4 note groupings but that the rhythm is 7 notes per beat. The fast pentatonic run? Basically Steve is playing at full pelt with no regard to the rhythm. This can make it almost impossible to faithfully reproduce. The best approach is just to go for it!
@@DavePriceGuitarist Exactly, like you say. Steve Lukather plays that part as fast as he can without thinking in any particular mathematical subdivisions or note groupings. What do you mean by grouping those notes in four?
anyways. i uploaded backing tracks for this song. full song. and outro only. check my vids lol.. I think one of the tracks is from your backing track. I edited them for the full song. and also the last lyrics of the song "as soon as my hearrrrtttttt......" included. full song : ua-cam.com/video/kJVNUaS4_d4/v-deo.html outro only : ua-cam.com/video/qqP9P7248YA/v-deo.html
Hey Dave thanks for sharing one of Toto's greatest solo,. AWESOME!!!

Thanks Jose. He's one of my favourite players for this reason.
They’re incredibly difficult to decipher because of the horrible video tape quality this concert is recorded in.

@@DavePriceGuitarist for guitar nerds like me, that format is great because we aren’t just in it for the lick. We wanna know why. Ha
Wow ive been looking for the tab tutorial of this solo for a long time. Thank you 🤟👍👍👍

Would be awesome if you could do the Love has the Power Live solo!
Dave you are sadly missed mate god bless.😥
This is Diamond on UA-cam. Thank you very much, this solo was mystery for me. Do you know why Luke's solo on Live in Paris was improvise perfectly?
You're welcome. I would imagine that he improvised the solo. Bearing in mind he would also have some licks and melodic ideas to draw from.

Cheers! It’s all in the description box.
