      Hey Brayant. I just turned 71 and was a drummer for 40 years. I played with some great guitar players and of course they made it look so easy! Now that I'm retired from drumming I still have music in my soul. I dearly love the blues. It speakes to me. So, I bought a guitar and with my limited ability set out to conquer the blues. Needless to say it is sooo hard to get what's in my head down to my hands. It's extremely frustrating when I keep dropping picks, they spin in my fingers, it's a true battle to practice every day and can't enjoy it. I admire you being a jazz guitarist. That's one language I can't speak. I do wonder if I am too old to continue this journey. 😊

      @MartinGrubb-o3k you're only to old when you've moved across the veil. Look at Robin Trower, Eric Clapton, etc. BB King was playing right up to the end. It just takes us oldies a bit longer to get the body parts moving well.

Thats due to your ability,attitude,and ability to teach while easily playing, demonstrating your knowledge of the guitar, especially blues.You know where to bend, so you can cover anyone.Nice tone, feel and the notes are so well articulated, its easy to bend, if you know where to do it, and how you phrase is so important in blues, know where the notes are.😊

    I believe bb king is one of the most influential players ever. He has had a very profound impact on several generations. I love his expressiveness when he plays. Now, with all of that said, i also wholeheartedly believe that he isnt a very technical player. His phrasing and general technique is very rudimentary. His superiority isnt in the difficulty of what he puts together, its HOW he puts it together. He is a living master class on playing with soul. His feelings and expressions are what comes out of his fingertips. Its not over intricate chords, or piling as many notes as possible into a space. Its about the timing of the notes, the bends, the slides, and all of the other basics that he has mastered and puts together to get his message across.
    Can you tell i highly respect his work?

    Hi Eddie, Your teaching strategy seems to be getting more comprehensive as I'm catching up to your videos. I really appreciate the preparation and thought you must do. The breathing technique to create phrasing brevity reminds me of the blues greats who would mouth singing as phrases were played, like the guitar became their singing.

You play it and it sounds amazing, using 4 freaking notes!! I do it, it sounds not musical and way too slow. Can you please dumb these down to a point to show, do this like this, keep doing this until you get fluid with it, then try this…?

I can spend an evening learning a cool blues lick, then the next morning i can remember the notes in the lick but the actual phrasing of the lick completely eludes me, and i just end up with a chromatic run in the correct key with the correct notes and zero personality. Not sure what to do to help me remember these killer phrases???

    • @OnwardAndEdward
      @OnwardAndEdward 7 місяців тому +2

      With stuff like this, listening is the best thing you can do. Actively listen to the phrases you’re wanting to emulate until they’re stuck in your head. Listening to blues records is another thing you should do! You’ll hear all the different ways that the pentatonic scales are played and it will start to show up when you play through the scales yourself. It will take time but it’s worth it!

And I run around listening to Sirius XM BB King bluesville all day. David Gilmour is my Guitar hero and my favorite but I love Hendrix, Robert Cray, SRV, all the Kings of course especially Albert King. Pretty much playing to backing tracks now but been stuck in the pentatonic box and I think adding this BB King box (major scale part of it) along with pentatonic box and extended box will help with a bit of variety
