Thank You for taking time out of your busy schedule to put this transcription together. You cleared up several parts of the solo for me and all the other guitar players who have struggled with this solo. Much appreciation. Thank You. Washington DC 🇺🇸
This is one of my fav solos from Luke. Absolutely cool and collected. Taped the concert off TV onto VHS and devoured it. Fantastic show. The genius of Toto. Thank you for your lesson Dave.
I have always loved this solo since the 90s, but never had a clue how to play it!! THANKS SO MUCH for puttin the time and putting this video out there for us, for free! God bless!!
Spot on. Your on the money with this one mate. Always loved this solo. Blew me away also mate. What a show on tv. Pls do some more of the solos from the concert. Fantastic stuff. Inspirational. Guido is a player who also covers Luke amazingly well. Keep it going maestro
Hi Dave! I downloaded the patch. It sounds decent , curious though why you didn't turn on the Input Gate at the beginning of the chain...as there is noticeable hum without it....I would have to turn down the drive on the Ubersonic to 2.3 from 7.9 which is a lot......maybe it is just my guitar pickups perhaps.....I turned away from the FRFR monitors just in case but it was definitely still quite audible....Thx for the patch and the lesson.....
You’re welcome. I tend to use a noise gate in logic so that I can fine-tune it when mixing. Sometimes I find the noise gate can kill the sustain on the patch. Of course it’s going to be different for each guitar and the pick ups that are in it.
Great tutorial!. The last run of the solo is subdivided mathemathically with the beat or it is just played at full speed regardless of the rhythm with some rubato?. Thanks
I would like to ask DAVE about something else: i also have an RG550 from the 80s, and i noticed that when you bem, you tremolo doesnt move, wheres on my RG550, it moves A LOT, decreasing the tuning of all other strings, and also making bending in pitch much more difficult. Can you comment on that? do you use any type of lock-trem???
Hi Dave!, great tutorial. I am working on this solo but I have a question: The very last fast run of the solo should I subdivide mathemathically the note values or just think of it as some rubato thing where you just start slow and build speed. It seems that Steve Lukather is just playing fast regardless of the rhythm. Am I right?
The software is called Guitar Pro. Syncing up with the guitar footage was just a case of lining up the video files so they are in time with each other.

You're welcome. Yep, I did the same thing and taped it off the TV. Later on I was able to find a DVD release of it .

Please! The outro solo from the I'll be over you in 1991, it's awesome
That is a great solo :)

very nice job thanks !!!
You are welcome. Glad you like the lesson
Well done Dude really well done !
Cheers!
@@DavePriceGuitarist It's so much easier splitting it up with the tabs running along side! Thank you
Brilliant! Any chance of you doing the solo from "Love has the power" from the same concert?
Cheers Andrew! You might have to wait a bit on that one. It's a bit of a long solo.

Thanks. A lot of these runs are just Steve burning through the notes with no thought to the rhythm. A very common approach in the '80s.
@@DavePriceGuitarist Exactly, I notice that he tends to use a lot of rubato. Thanks for your answer and your tutorials are great!
brilliant lesson do you do the rythm part ?
Cheers Christopher. I haven't done a lesson on the rhythm part.

Nice job! How do you actually get the transcription out on paper? Is it a midi guitar or just manually plot the notes out in a certain software?
Thanks. I used Guitar Pro software to write out the solo and then took screenshots of the transcription so that I could add them to the video.
Nice lesson! Maybe you could teach another guitar lesson like Rosanna, please?
Thanks. both solos to Rosanna are on my channel.
Distorsión plástica ! Mmmm exelente explicación slds
The Law of Lukather...
"... and play as fast as you can."
