I can always go back ... to my memories. I turned 16 in 1980 and 26 in 1990, so you can imagine, I took in every bit of the 80's. More so, I was studying/living in the land of music (Trinidad & Tobago) for 4 of those 10 years.
I'm so sorry. Sending positive energy to comfort your heart. He is with you and as you read this I promise he probably just wrapped his arms around you and wiped a tear from your eye. He knows how strong u can be...you can do it! Love ❤ to you

I am 21, and I discovered this song when I was 17, been listening every once in a while, now it's 13 September 2024 at 12:05am listening to this! I am stuck in the 80s and I wasn't even born then😅

And just to flex it, they bring in MM (probably repaying a recording session favor) to add that soulful touch. It's gonna be a damn long time before any music like this is ever made again. If ever.
Also, I just notice that all of the members of the band had their own parts of the song like Toto Africa and Rosanna different singers but one band how amazing it is.
I feel you. Toto is a once in a generation band because they're a band made up of A list session musicians that kept bumping into each other at gigs and decided they were good enough to be their own band not just play in superstars' bands 👏 I like this number but Africa is my hands down favorite. Africa almost didn't make it onto the Toto IV album because no one except the writer and arranger David Paich was excited about it. It ends up becoming their biggest hit ever!
This is one of those songs that defines a special moment in our lives. What a beautiful song! Songs like this will be remembered for all eternity. Who's with me?

The most underrated belittled band in music history. Specialized critics, Media, consumers and entertainment industry in general have no idea what good music is but specially what it means to be a great musician. Toto will forever be one of the best bands in music history, no matter what they say, any professional musician knows what I am talking about.

Me as the biggest Toto fan from the Netherlands will be listening to this beautiful music my whole life! Toto 4 ever!
Nothing like Toto to bring me back to the 70's and 80's. Adding Michael McDonald on backrounds was nothing short of genius. I seriously can not remember Toto putting out a bad song. They all have something that just grabs you. Amazing band, amazing times. I am so thankful to have lived in it.
That dude is in the background on everything I’ve listened to lately and back in the day, I barely noticed. lol That voice is all over the 80’s in places I never realized.
One of my favorite songs from the 80's... I recently played it on repeat over and over. No one sings true love songs like this anymore. Absolutely beautiful. I miss the 80's as a child ❤️
YOU ARE SO RIGHT! BEEN A FAN OF THEIRS SINCE "HOLD THE LINE", plus used them as MODELS in my advancement as a musician (played a lot of their cuts, having sheet music to a lot of them)!
When I hear this song I can just close my eyes and hear the sounds from the hall in my high school, the sounds of the students cheering us on during the baseball games and remember all the days that build the memories I have today. I look back now and realize how important it is to live your dreams and let nothing pass you by. In 1992 I graduated, but I didn't become what I dreamed I did get a chance to become the best father I could be. My kids are living their dreams, I can see myself in them so much. I miss the 1980's and 90's so much!!
Oh my God I had forgotten about this song from my teen years in the 80’s!!! When I clicked play on it just now and it began my heart just about melted!!! This was such an amazing song in the 80’s, and still is to this day!! ❤️❤️❤️
Same here, Shannon. Our generation (80's teens) were privileged to grow up with some amazing music. Listening to these classics now, the nostalgia for those bygone days is sometimes too much to bear.
This has got to be the quintessential 80s music video. Helicopters shooting footage over LA skyscrapers for a 4 min song on a rooftop. We didn't got no drones back then. Toto. Michael McDonald casually appearing for his backing vocal from the end of the second verse. It didn't get any better than this.
Toto may just well be the best American band ever formed. Their songs are emotionally charged and melodically powerful. This is a beautiful song, and a signature Steve Lukather ballad. I wish we had music like this again. We need real instruments back and no more autotune. It has to be real.
@@davidsmith-jj4iq Agreed. This song is my favorite of Toto's. There is no way to fill the void when you lose someone. You never forget them and it's true "As soon as forever is through I'll be over you.
This has always been a favorite of mine since it came out. It has a whole new meaning now...my wife, best friend of almost 22 years passed away in the first minutes of Christmas morning five years ago... The pain has eased. But I’ll never be over her…
La voz de Michael McDonald aquí es celestial, Muero! Pero def también muero por Steve Lukather ¡El sentimiento que le imprime al cantar esta balada poderosa! My fave de Toto ❤
Grew up in the 80s just listening to this song today it brought back so many memories. Tears falling from my face. Nothing beats the 70s and 80s music.
Music like this is gone forever. The spirit of music like this truly is gone. At least we can go back and hear it when it truly was a better time in a better place to live
Toto was always such an under rated band, this song is so awesome. especially when they added Michael Mcdonald into their backing vocals. lets face it, the 80's ruled musically.
I saw them in Dubai.. I cried ! Truly one of the best groups of the 80s.. this song man.. just stirs my heart ..their music was and is so amazing . Toto fan forever

When I was a lonely little girl this song gave me comfort. It made me sad but hopeful at the same time. I cant believe I almost forgot about this song until now. Thanks UA-cam!
Growing up in the 80s was the best of time and simple time 40 years later. I’m still listening to the 80s and I’m 57 years old hard to believe how fast Times gone by.

80’s truly was the end of innocence in comparison to what we have transformed into as a society today. The music alone is a testament to what kind of people we were towards one another. Songs back then for the most part inspired, motivated, made you look at the brighter side of everything. Half cup FULL mentality is something we no longer teach because of fear of loosing... Songs like this should be a reminder that we can overcome anything and make a bad ass song about it;). Best
they are not underrated, they have sold millions of albums and were on the cover of every rock magazine in the 80s This particular song was a Top 40 hit in 1986.
To Lucha's point they were never an MTV popular band like say Duran Duran or The Police at the time but among their musical peers they were highly respected. There's a reason why Quincy and Michael asked them to play on the mega selling Thriller or Lionel Richie's biggest album Can't Slow Down. They were simply some of the best studio musicians in the business that everybody wanted and knew would make their record sound that much better.
They WERE an Mtv popular band, their videos ( such as Africa, Rosanna and this song) were on heavy rotation on Mtv. They were a household name like Duran Duran or The Police. They were both popular and wellrespected musicians.
1986: I was sixteen and completely bewitched by this song and Joseph Williams. Loved and still love his smile at 02:22. So many precious memories. Beautiful and timeless song. Michael McDonald's voice (sigh). Thank you.
EXACTLY. Todays's "Artists" are all voice synthesized choreographed so-called "dancers" and couldn't play an instrument to save their lives. It's sad. Musicians have gone the way of the dinosaur. :(
Two of the Porcaro brothers died long time ago. First Jeff Porcaro, one of the greatest drummers in the history. Then Mike Porcaro, the bass player. Steve Porcaro (keyboards) decided to put an end of this great band. They are still alive in our hearts.
I'm 57 and just like a lot of people who realize they have more years behind them than ahead I really want to go back to the time where I have the most memories that make me smile.
Same here.. this song and other Toto hits give me nostalgia feels, and i just close my eyes and let myself be transported back in time, to the late 70s and 80s …
Absolutely agree. Michael McDonald's voice is so distinctive and seems to fit perfectly in all of the songs he provides backup vocals for, including (but not limited to) Steely Dan's Katy Lied album. Truly amazing voice.
this song never gets old, bruno mars, lady gaga and nicky minaj will be gone in the music industry but this song "i'll be over you" will still be played on the radio 20 years from now
John Doe I doubt it has anything to do with that none of these reasons are mentioned it's just songs like these are so much more iconic they will last the test of time
Persian Gulf Baghdad did you know that theyre a good singers? sadly some big people behind them is just making them a puppet making hits about sex. thats it. thats why some oldies dont appreciate them.
I'm 14 and I love 80s music. I beileve I was around in the 80s not physically but spiritually because everytime I listen to 80s music I see myself being there, so proud of that ❤❤❤❤
You are an old soul, you will enjoy the music your whole life, like me am 55, I live like am 17, you can be a millionaire and still be free spirit. Start investing your money and retire early like I did. God Bless , Good Lick Kid!!!! :)
Tell you what, I was 14 in 1989 and in hindsight, I feel very fortunate now that was my time. I cringe at the thought of being 14 now with everything so constricted and obsessed with petty differences with the elite constantly scolding us with, "You can't do this because so-and-so is out to get you, so let us make those decisions for you". In the 80s - and before - we were told we could do anything we put our minds to and there were no excuses why we can't. If that came back, it would be a real liberation of the human spirit and we'd have the past to pick up where we left off.
I can't watch this music video enough. I never get tired of it. The 80s were a great time for music. Toto is definitely one of the bands that made me feel that way. Thanks to Toto for their amazing music. Much love, and respect.
Toto is one of the most amazing supergroups ever! Such an ensemble of talent playing their role perfectly within each song, to make the most exquisite combination of sound, lyrics and performance and with Michael Mcdonald featuring as a guest in this song just makes it even more amazing!
Only one more time I'm going to tell you people. The best musical time era started in the year 1974 with the Calif. Soft rock sound thru the early 80s second British invasion. It almost ended in 1989 but another genre of good music took hold(grunge) and it lasted before the year 2000. So 1974 to 1999. That's my final answer
When good music had no COLOR boundaries.... i was just a little black kid who couldn't wait for Friday night videos to come on...... this song is still BEAUTIFUL TODAY
I did the same, starting early 80s great decade of all music generes.... The roster of talented groups and solo performances of the 70s 80s was endless....clean music
I miss it...I remember Solid Gold Show lol and singing along to the radio and/or MTV -it was such a different time- Even Tina Turner was "and is" a ROCK & ROLL legend! Duran Duran...all the ole goodies! Glad I'm not alone
Mini LeeMajors you are so right. Folks can say what they want. Music back in these days were written by the heart and had a start middle and end. Songs ment something had substance and meaning. And it was crossover not black white or any other except beautiful. Keep listening!
Liz Kozlowski funny thing about this song Michael sang background because toto played for a song he recorded at the sametime called “Our Love”.. but i guess “ I’ll be over took off ... both are great songs check that song out if u havent before..😉
Still tears in my eyes in 2024, was a big Toto fan in the 80s and this song comforted me after losing my partner all of a sudden. My heart has healed and I have been with my new partner for 25 years now, but this song still gets to me as if not a day has gone by. Timeless music.
I dedicate this to my big brother Steve who went to be with the Lord at the age of 54 this year who always protected me when we were growing up. Thank you Stevie for being such a good brother. I love and miss you very much. "As soon as my heart stops breaking....I'll be over you"

In 1992 I graduated, but I didn't become what I dreamed I did get a chance to become the best father I could be. My kids are living their dreams, I can see myself in them so much. I miss the 1980's and 90's so much!!
It’s never too late buddy! Glad to hear your kids are able to live their dreams 🙏🏻🙌🏻
Me too, but in my high school in Brazil (Rio de Janeiro). And I didn't become what I dreamed..
great times and beautifull words buddy!
Me, class of 1992 as well! We are the peak Gen X, 80's experts! Lol
Yes brother, class of 92' here as well.
Oh my God I had forgotten about this song from my teen years in the 80’s!!! When I clicked play on it just now and it began my heart just about melted!!! This was such an amazing song in the 80’s, and still is to this day!! ❤️❤️❤️
Such deep lyrics to this day
fralo tudo ok
Same here, Shannon. Our generation (80's teens) were privileged to grow up with some amazing music. Listening to these classics now, the nostalgia for those bygone days is sometimes too much to bear.
Totally agree with U,this song makes me sad because of a lost love romance in the late 80's n she knows I dedicated it to her
This has got to be the quintessential 80s music video.
They'd face some stiff competition from bands like the Beach Boys or the Eagles, but yes, Toto is up there.
STUNNING song ,so much heart ,just have to learn to accept loss ,this captures that huge emptiness you feel when you lose someone.
But I’ll never be over her…
💔 It is easier to get trough with this beautiful song 💞
So sorry to hear about your wife, Mark...
Omg you just made me cry.. came here because of a break up.. can’t imagine the feeling.. sorry for your loss
I am so sorry man.. God Bless...
So sorry...
I love how at 02:42 they panned in on Michael McDonald looking right at the camera. He totally makes this song for me!! ❤❤❤
La voz de Michael McDonald aquí es celestial, Muero! Pero def también muero por Steve Lukather ¡El sentimiento que le imprime al cantar esta balada poderosa! My fave de Toto ❤
He runs this song.
❤❤❤
Crazy stuff!
Euuu😅
I SWEAR the 80's and 90's made the best music ever!!
I second that brings back so many fond memories music back then had so much meaning not like todays crap
I agree
I like the 70’s as well
80’s is the best.
Grew up in the 80s just listening to this song today it brought back so many memories. Tears falling from my face. Nothing beats the 70s and 80s music.
❤
You're right. The music was top quality.
I am sad but this music will always be here, for new generations

How do you figure that?

80's songs are like heaven made. So much lovely to hear.
Growing up in that decade is awesome. The music, television, movies, and life was outstanding.
Music like this is gone forever. The spirit of music like this truly is gone. At least we can go back and hear it when it truly was a better time in a better place to live
I could agree more 👏

Согласен с товарищем 👋😉👍👍👍
Toto was always such an under rated band, this song is so awesome. especially when they added Michael Mcdonald into their backing vocals. lets face it, the 80's ruled musically.
Good memories
but now it’s tik tok ;)
yep, Michael's subtle backing vocals appearances are fantastic!
eu amo essa música ela e muito linda
Umm, underrated ? Toto IV cleaned up at the 1984 Grammys. Not being a jackwad-- just saying, they got their kudos.
I saw them in Dubai.. I cried ! Truly one of the best groups of the 80s.. this song man.. just stirs my heart ..their music was and is so amazing . Toto fan forever

Got That Right. Love This Song Forever. Classic.
Some people live their dreams
Some people close their eyes
Some people's destiny
Passes by
There are no guarantees
There are no alibis
That's how our love must be
Don't ask why
It takes some time
God knows how long
I know that I can forget you
As soon as my heart stops breakin'
Anticipating
As soon as forever is through
I'll be over you
Remembering times gone by
Promises we once made
What are the reasons why
Nothing stays the same
There were the nights holding you close
Someday I'll try to forget them
Someday I'll be over you

And I loved Michael McDonald's ethereal vocals. Gives me chills.
All I have to do is to replace "girl" with "boy" in your comment. Everything else is all I have to say about as well.

@@katwil89 It's been 2 years for me... when a love is true and deep, it never leaves...
True artists! I can listen to this all day! BEAUTIFUL!❤
Best
Very true and tremendously well put,I felt every word you wrote👏😉

Dude you just wrote a 80 s song with your words....they were lyrics with substance.
So true! Way to express the 80s. I totally agree with this, and I miss the way things were back then too!
This song is beautiful. Such a pretty tune. Love these 80's songs that don't get played a lot.
great treasures they don't make them like this that's for sure
Most Underrated band. they deserve more popularity with their exceptional talent
agree
they are not underrated, they have sold millions of albums and were on the cover of every rock magazine in the 80s This particular song was a Top 40 hit in 1986.
They were both popular and wellrespected musicians.
babycook28 I agree
1986: I was sixteen and completely bewitched by this song and Joseph Williams. Loved and still love his smile at 02:22. So many precious memories. Beautiful and timeless song. Michael McDonald's voice (sigh). Thank you.

Toto was such a great band! Where have the musicians gone? Sad sad sad
EXACTLY. Todays's "Artists" are all voice synthesized choreographed so-called "dancers" and couldn't play an instrument to save their lives. It's sad. Musicians have gone the way of the dinosaur. :(
I so agree with you! sad sad sad...
Mike Maxwell A lot of musicians these days can play their asses off but they can't compose a memorable piece of music at all
Two of the Porcaro brothers died long time ago. First Jeff Porcaro, one of the greatest drummers in the history. Then Mike Porcaro, the bass player. Steve Porcaro (keyboards) decided to put an end of this great band. They are still alive in our hearts.

I'm 14 and I love 80s music. I beileve I was around in the 80s not physically but spiritually because everytime I listen to 80s music I see myself being there, so proud of that ❤❤❤❤
Same thing that happens to me,I feel like I existed in the 70s era
Keep it up. I was born in 1970 and was lucky enough to enjoy the best decade's of music. It's gone now but thank God we can look back.
I play 80's music around the house hoping one day my child will hear an 80's song and think back fondly to his childhood years like I do.
I can't watch this music video enough. I never get tired of it. The 80s were a great time for music. Toto is definitely one of the bands that made me feel that way. Thanks to Toto for their amazing music. Much love, and respect.
I think the same way!

Proud to say my 14 year old son listens to this with me . He's got good taste.
