I am norwegian, and I am glad this series enlighten the world of our Viking history.
I'm from Poland and since my high school I've been interested in slavic history, then I got interested in the history of your ancestors. ;) That was even before "Vikings"! But yeah, "Vikings" made nordic mythology and folklore more popular on the East.

For me, that moment was also one of the saddest in the series. Seeing Harald and Halfdan singing that song just before going into battle and on opposite sides made my heart clench.
Tbh harald had such a sad life. He belived that being king would make him happy. But it made him more miserable. I felt that Harald wouldve found true peace and happiness if he had followed byorn

I felt Lagartha's death like I had lost a family member. Never have I legitimately felt my heart break and actually cry over a character's death. I think the scene of the Viking boats leaving is the most astonishing thing I have ever seen - the series is brilliant - utterly brilliant and the song sung in this video makes me wish I had come from Norsemen heritage....instead, my ancestors probably stood on the shores of Essex in absolute shock and horror at such a sight as the longboats arriving...a fleet like this must have been like seeing the arrival of hell (I can't help feeling excitement though and some weird connection to these people though . Weird!

The norse intermixed with the English multiple times (i.e the Danelaw in England, many norse settlements in Scotland and Ireland), and so much, that many people who can trace their ancestors as far back as the 1400s in the British Isles, still come up with having Scandinavian dna/ancestry.
I found a lot of Norse (Norwegian and Danish) ancestors from the English and Scottish sides of the family when I managed to track that side of the family as far back as the 1000-1200s.
All of us western europeans have essentially the same DNA group. We are all related.
Vikings is actually pretty faithful to the Old Norse sagas.

I do hope you aren't taking the History Channel show as 100% fact. As a Viking Age reenactor who's hird is VERY historically accurate conscious...I can assure you History took MANY creative liberties for drama and theatrical effect.

They lived the old way with their own laws of the land. Powerful video. There is a much proof that the Vikings came to America. I believe this from what I’ve learned in all the different places I’ve lived from the Atlantic north east coast to Minnesota to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan on the shores of northern Lake Superior. The Vikings left mark.

I'm so obsessed with this show I love that these vikings really existed.
The obsession is from the stimulation of struggle that the characters endure (whether good or bad), which translates to their own destiny in life, and where they had ended up towards the end of their life span. Destiny is just that crazy i guess.
