I think the scene of the Viking boats leaving is the most astonishing thing I have ever seen - the series is brilliant - utterly brilliant and the song sung in this video makes me wish I had come from Norsemen heritage....instead, my ancestors probably stood on the shores of Essex in absolute shock and horror at such a sight as the longboats arriving...a fleet like this must have been like seeing the arrival of hell (I can't help feeling excitement though and some weird connection to these people though . You probably do have viking ancestors )800-1000 C.E) if your family is predominantly from England. If you go back far enough, that is. The norse intermixed with the English multiple times (i.e the Danelaw in England, many norse settlements in Scotland and Ireland), and so much, that many people who can trace their ancestors as far back as the 1400s in the British Isles, still come up with having Scandinavian dna/ancestry. This was never a shanty, instead this was a poem. A child had taken his first life, killed someone for the first time, and he was in shock but his mother praised him. He then spoke this poem. Roughly this, though, as this version isn't a direct translation, adjusted slightly to work better as a song. But yeah, for those curious about the origin, that's the origin story! Still love listening this , just an info!
This verse is said to have been sung by Egil when his mother Bera said he was a Viking subject. It was after he had won his first slaying that he weighed Grim son of Hegg at Heggstaðir after Grímur had played him badly in a ball game. Egil was then in his seventh winter, but Grim was eleven or ten years old, and strong by age.

Ive been searching my whole life for a religion that fills me. Ive battled certain trials.that crutched my heart, soul, moral compass, etc. It's not until I decided enough is enough and then my mother who is wicca introduced me to nordic / paganism. NOW my life has drastically changed to heal not just myself but others around me. I listen to this song daily and without fail is fills me with strength. Daily I give thanks but it requires me to get on my knees in nature which I used to think was wrong since.NOTHING should make a man Bowe BUT getting over this immature notion and realizing you need to do this as a way of humbling yourself and feeling/exsperiencing their.presence, responses, and love. I want impress upon individuals this SAVED me and PRAY it saves you as well. I want to take this momment to thank the creator/artist/ children of Odin thank you for sharing this gift of song and praise. You have and continue to play a major part of my development in life. Love you brothers and sisters. I hope this message reaches someone who needs to hear it. Proud of you

Same. Felt like the ending was kinda hurried
Same here😢
Brother, this is so awesome! I love the songs of choice you used here, both of them are perfect for Vikings
Oh my, I think Viking funerals are beautiful
I know it sounds morbid, but I have done a few Pagan funerals and they are beautiful, if you get the chance, goto one
When I get anxiety, I watch this. Calms me every time. I'm made in America with Norwegian parts. It always makes me feel like my ancestors are behind me. Strengthening me and comforting me at the same time.
My norse brothers and sisters from the roots of our heritage to our lands that we conquered and became as 1 with multiple other ethnics in this world lets give a feiring

Я русская, и это моя любимая песня ❤❤❤❤❤
Congratz for 10M! . Hands down one of the best series ever put on this earth..
This song is fantastic! I WAS BORN TO LATE IN TIME!!!!!
Brought tears to my eye. Was a huge fan of babylon 5 in the 90s. I was a teenager than in New Zealand but came from war torn Yugoslavia. Mira Furlan a Croatian actress for Ambassador Delenn also was cool. A lot of the main actors have passed as we all must. A cosmic conflict just like the conflicts on earth, good vs evil.
I played this to my puppy..
it turned into the werewolf and run to village seeking blood of the newborns
😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣👏👏👍👍 skol!!🍻🍻
nice one kid
He then turned into fenrir
Lol
Is he Fenrir? 😂
the best forever😢
Vikings💔😢
Bro this is amazing! Loved the series. And this brings me in a sort of different state of mind to got all out in the gym! Thank you sir
The most touching moment in this saga. Sobbed like a child.
Ich bin Fan und ich liebe die Musik, ich bin Norddeutscher. Ich war viel in Norwegen. Und ich liebe dieses Land
I swear it’s the greatest series in the history ❤️💙👑
I and my bear like it. Hi from Russia
Does the Political Commissar know that you write such things on the west side?
I heard there only boar not bear in Russia
So you are technically you are lying
I want this on repeat constantly the video is great but cant get bored of this
The best music video I have seen. I keep coming back for more. This would make a great movie.
I'm Frankish on my father's side and Saxon on my mother's side. Traced back to 1713 in Gundheim, Germany. My ancestors were pagans before Christianity. I practice Norse Paganism now. Hail Odin! Hail Thor! Skal! My son and his sons will carry this out after I'm gone. I'm taking my family back to the old ways.
Irish and Welsh with germanic ancestors hail the all father
I love music like this I found it when I was 6 maybe 7 now I'm 17 about to be 18 it's wonderful how inspirational this music is
All Hail the Greatest Shieldmaiden of History ❤️
Beautiful just beautiful.....what a heritage to be a part of....❤❤❤
Best series ever!
The nordic soul is so straight to my heart.
There beats deep something in men through the ages. A caged beast, they cannot suppress, nor tame, nor kill with laws of passivity. One day the cage will break, the weak will fight to no avail and the proud will fall just as their laws. Each consumed by vengeful fire and the beast will have its fill.
My Great Grandparents came directly from Norway to Canada, our name is DAHL, not a noble Scandinavian but still one true, and I will live on with it and teach my children to be proud of it as well.
Love this song
I've watched so many tv shows and movies but I've watched none twice but this legendary saga and will definitely watch again many times without getting bored for once.
3 Times I watched "Vikings"
This summer I'll watch again
The scene with the fleet of ships being lit up by lightning with Heimdallr playing as the music… epic
