It’s awesome that you give so many free instructionals away not keeping your secrets and sharing knowledge with all. Massive respect
This is my favorite sweep and chain in my arsenal. You really hit upon some key details like getting toward the end of the foot and using it as a lever up and out to put even more pressure on the knee. Small little things to improve my technique in here. This was beautiful.
Thank you very much for sharing! I like how this guy explain each details calm without rushing and make it easy understandable. Oss
I use half guard. I’m a blue belt I always use dogfight to knee tap but I always had kinks in it. No one else has the correct details but you. I’m telling you like the switching feet details are game changing.
Damn. Every step is simple genius.
This is amazing, very helpful for my game. Thanks so much ,Oss
Thanks for all the great content.
Best details in the land
John Danaher: "Beautiful wedge"
In the Q&A section, the old man missed one important point. After he lifts the oppenent's leg, he should do a reverse shrimp action, then he can sweep more easily. That's what Lachlan did.
highly recommend Lachlan's half guard seminar if you guys haven't gotten it yet
diabolic42090 do you think his seminar would work for no-gi as well?
Wow
I'm wondering: do you also get 3 points when you move to side control off this sweep? or only 2 points for the sweep itself?
Hi, 3 points are only awarded for a guard pass, so in this instance it is just 2 points for a sweep.
three points are awarded for a guard pass two points for a sweep. so you could technically sweep for two and let them pull you into a half guard and then pass it for 3 more ....
Coyote Guard yessah
That's beautiful
Best instruction and details I have seen on this sweep.
Watch the instructonal from my friend and instructor Lucas leite he s considered the best half guard player in the world
@@jlguzman7810 yea I'm sure hes your bestie
@@samuelemeryjiujitsu yes we have been training together for almost 10 years now and he still teaches almost every class one of my best friends indeed if you're ever in la habra California come by check out la habra Lucas will be teaching I'll be there too helping have a great day mate
@@jlguzman7810 lol that's awesome
@@jlguzman7810 we study and rep stuff from Leites. Respect brotha.
Wow. I'm a little overwhelmed at the amount of details you mention. Everything you post is amazing!
I came back to BJJ after 8 years and half guard is what saves me the most against those younger new breed monsters.
I was doing wrong this sweep, not standing up right, thank´s for details.
Can't believe this is available for free. Such an amaizingly detailed, high-level content.
WhAt about when they grab a guillotine when I sit-up ?
pull the knee out and get your hip under their knee to do wizard trap
I've struggled with the underhook half so much and I think a major part of why is that I never realized that I needed to slide out after the underhook is made. I kept being flattened and not understanding why. I feel like a dummy but I'm so glad to see this!
same here mate, you're not alone in this🙂
1:20 - already fixed much of my half guard issues. I let my training partner get close & smash me.....too hard to recover from that.
Actually good detail with the 50/50 underhook move. Been taught that move by 3 ppl. This guy’s explanation and detail is the best
5:12 and 5:38 then 6:19
Also the detail of getting around the corner changed my game!!!!!
agreed - that's a huge detail
Could have used these details this weekend at AGF nationals lol. Took second in no-gi, but got shut down in the gi and couldn't nail this sweep
Hi, I bought the Lachlan half guard DVD it's amazing. I see he underhook grabs around the waist (leaving opponent room for a darce or whizzer and get to dog fight). Is there a reason he doesn't grip around the leg like a single leg takedown grip instead? I get guillotined, darced and whizzered with the hip grip often. Thanks.
Underhook is life! Thank you for posting this instructional.

Hi,
Verry good details! Tks and big rgds from Belgrade, Srbija👍👍👍
Great stuff. I’ve been using this after learning from Lucas Leite a few years back. You’ve added a little more detail that will be helpful. Thank you Lachlan!
Just amazing. Please keep doing what you're doing lachy! Amazing teacher.
i thought i was good at these 2 basic sweeps you go through here but holy hell this is just filled to the brim with ways for me to improve them both
Fantastic video Lachlan. I've watched so many videos on this sweep and I think this is the best one. Could you talk a little bit about how to deal with an opponent who tries to knee slide once you get to base? I am often about to torque the knee, free my leg and get up to base, only to have the opponent knee slide out of the attack. Thanks!
He shouldnt be able to just pull his leg out........ anyways use eddie bravos variation where you use a half leg lace and you dont even need the knee torque step. ua-cam.com/video/bJfNs3TZqIQ/v-deo.html this match shows it perfectly...............Also you can use lapel feeds to wreck people who knee slice pass ala bernardo faria ua-cam.com/video/bJfNs3TZqIQ/v-deo.html .......If all else fails use this ua-cam.com/video/kthpxyueskk/v-deo.html and once the lapel feed is on doesnt matter if he pulls out, The lapel grip works as a deep single that you cannot sprawl out of, also pulls on shoulder (ur top base) too.
I get guillotined a lot in half gaurd. I don't how it happens, I don't know what I'm doing wrong
Big risk for knee injury for the guy being swept?
Hmm.... I do this all the time. To be fair, I don't torque the knee as much as Lachlan does in this video. Though I will start to because it's really powerful. I think the key is to use control when you're doing this. Most often, the guy on top will go along with you because he doesn't like the feeling of his knee. You don't really need to yank on it with your legs/levers because his biggest concern and likely only focal point is your underhook. When doing this on people, they seem to forget completely what's going on with their legs until they feel the need to go with you because of the pressure on the knee.
Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gostei da dica na troca do gancho na perna .
im very grateful, thank you
Only question sometimes when I’m going to my knees they rip their leg out
I noticed they didn’t cover that. Look for Lucas Leite’s “dogfight” position. Squeeze your knees together once you pivot onto them. You can also use the outer arm to block the knee from coming out. From there you can work the sweep.
Thanks very much for the knowledge you give us OSS
Hi guys, I'm after some advice. the final sweep Lachlan shows is when you sweep them over (hip under knee). I find that they are able to stop my sweep by posting with their arm (the one that they would use for head control). Any tips for stopping this? Cheers.
Ok I've just seen that part in the video... Missed that detail!
This is exactly what Lucas Leite does
You student are so lucky
It's worth adding another voice to the chorus saying that the half guard seminar is great. Well worth the money!
Thank you Jeran!
Lucas L.
100. Great video
Love it
Hi guys. I'm 6"2 but I really like this game. Would you recommend it or rather focus on a more Z guard aproach or something else?
Samir Lebbad you know yourself better than some randoms on the internet mate. Try it, see how it goes- try some more. Cheers
This sweep should be part of your z guard game. In this video Lachlan has a high knee shield before shooting the underhook. But you can do exactly the same thing when starting from z guard which is another form of knee shield.
Hey Lachlan! My LCL got damaged after I had cut the corner, but before I'd made the leg switch (e.g. 4:30). It happened when my opponent tried to stand up, elevating my foot off the ground, thus twisting my knee. After that, I guess my knee was weaker, so I've even heard some pops while I'm in the process of cutting the corner. Maybe my legs are too short and stubby or my knees inflexible or something..? Do you have any advice on how to deal with this?
Thx a lot. Best tutorial
Awesome details!! :D
Have you injured anyone from this knee torque from half guard? I worry about dropping into the second option because the torque on the knee is so strong.
I haven't but it is possible to do that. Sort of their fault for resisting the movement though
Thank you! I just bought your half-guard seminar. One thing I notice right off the bat is that the way you free your knee to get to dogfight is different in this video than your seminar. In this video you plant off the balls of your foot and bridge into their knee and retract your knee. In your seminar footage you drop to your shoulder and sprawl to create space to free your knee. Which way do you recommend doing it now?
Hey Mark, do the bridge if you can. If you can't bridge, the sprawl out is the way to go!
Thank you a lot Dr. Mr. Giles. Apreciate your work, fun for everyone. Oss
There are so many details ❤, as a white belt half guard player. Thank u!
you're the man!
I guess you are building another DOJO right beside that one while training is going on, because I could hear the nail gun going off. Great move and instruction though as usual.
Hi thanks we are mostly right handed can you pls use the right side
