I remember when I was a Sophmore in High School . I was listening to Slipknots self titled album on my portable cd player. My teacher grabbed my headphones off my head and listened to it, and said,”I think your cd player is broken.” Lol. Still rock their music to this day. It’s not for everybody.
Anytime bands start scratching records I'm out...I agree Joey was a monster drummer though.
I was in 7th grade when they came out. Everyone was saying get the cd. And I remember seeing the "slipknot kids" and thinking: "Wow that looks trashy and sad, think I'm gonna pass" And no joke I started listening to Black Sabbath around that time and its one of the better adolescent choices I made in my youth

When Slipknot was blowing up I was in high school. I never got the appeal of them, or the nu-metal craze in general. I started listening to more Pantera. After that came Slayer then Sepultura. After you hear those type of bands going back to Slipknot or the other popular bands at the time was like doing cocaine you knew was 60% baking powder. That crap doesn't pack the same punch.
Too bad. Slayer was running out of steam at that point. Everything after Divine ... was down hill, at least in my opinion.
@@pillsareyummy It was Slayer's albums like South of Heaven, Reign in Blood, Hell Awaits that got me into them. God Hates Us All came out around the time I was getting into them. I really didn't care for GHUA too much. They did win over many younger fans during that era. I wouldn't say Slayer were running out of steam at that point being their live shows were still killer. But their studio albums post Divine Intervention I rarely go back to.
@@butchvito Yeah, their shows back then were great. Saw them open for Pantera, on Pantera's last tour. Although they were opening for Pantera, they had their sound (their 'headlining sound'). Pantera was almost lackluster after Slayer.
Love Slipknot, these two albums are classic. I get its an acquired taste, though - most death metal vocalists sound to me like they're simultaneously trying to break mirrors with their voices while they shit out a week long constipation. Rock on good Doctor.
Slipknot is Hip Hop. At least Death Metal is Metal. Let's dress up like jugalos and put dead birds in our clown masks. Slipknot are mellow mall core bouncy crap. Death Metal is too Heavy for you POSEUR
Most people don't listen to death metal for the vocals. They listen to it for guitar riffs and drumming, the overall musicianship. If you had a Bruce Dickinson or a Dio singing over blast beats and death metal riffs, the sound wouldn't mash. Slipknot isn't an acquired taste. They were a gateway band for a lot of fans before they discovered extreme bands who actually knew how to play. Aside from Slipknot's drummer, they're not very impressive musically.

Hey dr! Big fan of your channel, would like to give you my opinion from my perspective. I'm 28 and this band came out when I was 5. Iowa exploded the whole thing and I was 8. Around that time I started to listen to music, and I remember watching slipknot for the first time and being shocked by it, just like you were with kiss, here came this whole characters and their personas doing loud music. By the time I was 13 they've released their fourth album and I was already hooked. This guys played with anger and skill and they were exactly what most of us at that age needed: angry and skillful music that could help us pour out all of our bad feelings. Needless to say they were not only a shelter to a lot of people like me but because of them I started to listen to the old school metal (sabbath, priest, megadeth, etc). What the hell, later sabbath became one of my favorite bands! And I don't think I would be a metalhead if it wasn't for slipknot. And I can assure you a lot of Kids like me became metalheads back then because of this band. We started to go back to the roots of metal and discovered all the amazing bands that came before.
With that said I can understand where your comments come from and I respect it, and I think I get it. I mean my dad is a fan of progressive rock and he always saw most of the bands I listened to (megadeth, metallica, slipknot, etc) as noise music, just like you see slipknot. I think it's a generational thing. But anyways, the thing that matters here is that metal always find a way to prevail, while we may not agree on metal and it's subgenres, we are all the same. Keep up the good work man.
And by the way, if you want to, you should check out "5. The gray chapter". With that album slipknot did something more alligned with classic metal (guitar solos, more melodic stuff and vibes).

I saw Slipknot headline the Mayhem Festival in 2012. I was there for Anthrax, Motorhead and Slayer. I did enjoy their live show.. Was rather like a circus from hell and entertaining visually but for me never clicked musically. I don't own any albums. So glad I got to see Lemmy and was disappointed Dave Hanneman wasn't there but I guess he had a pretty good excuse. I did get to see Hanneman in 2009 at the same festival that Marilyn Manson headlined. I walked out after 2 Manson songs. I did stay for all of Slipknot so I guess that says something positive...

I always respected the live show and how insane they went and Joey's drumming was killer but I never like the scratching records dj type shit and a lot of their later stuff just sounded the same to me. But I seen them with slayer and it was one of the most violent concerts I've ever seen. The whole arena was basically a mosh pit / riot lol

Same here, love extreme metal and I can’t get into Skipknot EXCEPT their first self released album Mate Kill Feed Repeat ain’t too bad at all (they consider it a demo now though lol)
I kinda like the song 'Duality' by them but that's it. Might be cos it had heavy rotation on MTV2 back in the day and it's probably quite an accessible song for Slipknot. Might also be cos I quite liked the video too but not a fan of Nu Metal passé.
Slipknot’s new material is much better (in my opinion). I heard their first album (which was a demo) when I was attending university (dude in my class played a show with them). Thought it was unique, however wasn’t ‘my thing’. Again, I don’t mind some of their newer material.
I'm sure a few "Slipknot Karens" sent this video to Corey Taylor, hoping to get him mad, but I think Corey's just laughing his way to the bank with the Knot. I think he'd appreciate Dr F going track by track. Some people say a band sucks because they heard 10 seconds of 2 songs and just thought they looked like a bunch of idiots.

I was into Black Sabbath,Deep Purple 70s Rock In my teens. The Guys from my school didnt understand. everybody was into Slipknot and Korn.
I'm a Slipknot fan and have seen them once. I saw them in 2015 on the Summer's Last Stand tour, which they were touring in support of .5: The Gray Chapter. Iowa is my favorite Slipknot album!

You know I tried, I really tried to like this band myself, but I just could not get into them. You have my sympathy for even listening to these albums. It was funny, BUT I felt bad for you at the same time. It must have been really bad to put all those other bands above Slipknot. Again, you have my sympathy.

I tried to give Slipknot a chance. I bought a CD for a dollar at a garage sale. I gave it a listen and didn't get all the way through it. Just not my thing.
Slipknot. When I was in high school, Slipknot was my favorite band. Those 2 albums were my jam (especially the debut). Once I graduated high school and started to listen to other music, Slipknot slowly fell out of favor for me. Same with all the other bands I listened to like Korn (the first metal band I liked), Mudvayne, System of a Down, Seether, and Staind (if you hate Bush and Live you will DEFINITELY not like Staind, they are the saddest post-grunge band to my ears).
Though I have now softened my opinion on the band lately, I don't mind a few songs from each, though I still rarely listen to them nowadays. This is music that I have to be in a certain mood to listen to. I think Vol. 3 is Slipknot's best album overall.

So....you don't like Slipknot I get it they aren't for everyone. Asking where the homeless man touched you was just bit much. I'm at least your age and like a good bit of what Slipknot does. They've influenced a massive amount of bands. You don't have a 30 year career if you suck. Regardless if you like it or not they'll survive without you. I'm fairly certain your parents hated your Zeppelin and Sabbath records much as mine did. Instead of living in the past perhaps open your mind to where metal is now. If it's not your thing, fair enough, but some old boomers opinion doesn't mean much to kids these days any more than your parents did to you. I'm a Slipknot fan (as well as Maiden, Motorhead, VH, 7D, Tesla) and I don't think I laughed harder at any one vid as this. Slipknot is hard to stomach but they are dedicated to their art. So you have to give them that credit.

Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. Is the best Slipknot album in my opinion. Different lineup and a different sound. Donnie Steele was the best guitarist they ever had. It's a shame that he left after that demo album. I like most of Slipknot but I don't listen to that album much. Very overrated band in my opinion. I've never listened to Iowa or much else. I have no interest.

Fair enough. I'm 56 I like them. I don't love them....it was really never for us. If I was a pissed off 15 year old kid it would be right up my alley. When I was a 15 year old pissed off bag of hormones in high tops it was Priest and Maiden etc....my parents hated it. The more they complained the cooler those bands were.

@@wadecapone That's the thing, I wouldn't counter Slipknot Nu-metal per say. I think they've much more going on than say Limp bizkit and the like.
I don't really like the term "grunge" either as the bands didn't like it and most of it is very metallic anyway.
But I'm not as much a fan of the newer stuff as I don't think it has the same power or organic feeling allot of rock & metal did before the 1990's and allot of it is quite the downer also

Great drummer, but other than that they're not that impressive musically. I never heard a Slipknot riff where I was like "oh shit!" Compared to all the other FM radio bands Slipknot would be considered heavy shit. To me they just sound like every other generic alternative metal band. Their early stuff was just heavier nu-metal with double bass drumming and blast beats.
