I was somewhat addicted to Rock and Roll when I felt the Holy Spirit for the first time while stationed in Germany with the Army (1965-66), and haven't been the same since. ...God gave me the gift of truly having an ear for Baroque music/Christian classical music. There are parts of the Messiah by Handel that convinces me that this piece was written in the Throne Room of Heaven and sent to Handel to process it into the heart, mind and soul of God's children. ....God has so blessed me with "Throne Room Music."
I have watched this programme whilst laid up with Covid and found it most uplifting. In the past I have sung Messiah several times as a tenor in the chorus. Sadly, with two hearing aids this is no longer possible. I am so glad that Mr Goodall’s programme ended with my favourite aria in the oratorio. As a lifelong Christian I do believe that my Redeemer is alive.
I am now in my 60's but have been listening to/singing The Messiah since I was in my teens. In graduate school I had a personal encounter with God. Since then my experience of this music has deepened into a profound worship experience. I know this was written more as popular music than sacred music, but I appreciate it as a very great expression of praise to Jesus Christ. Thank you for posting.
i have a complete music record on the 80s but lost and not return to me, but now i see herevin you tube and i record again now i havevin my cellphone now, i always repeat to listening over and over again !!! exellent masterpiece
Handel’s Messiah proformed at Sidney’s Opera House and Bach’s St Mathew’s Passion by Herrewegde are two videos that comfort me on a weekly basis, bringing me closer to My Lord. As the Bible is the inspired word of God I believe that Handsl’s Messiah is the inspired music of God.
Thank you for sharing. The HC is one of the best scores ever created Can you imagine when HE heard it for the 1st time how HE felt. We know when the King heard it, supposedly he was so moved with the HC that he stood out of respect and every time I have seen it performed by professionals and in churches, seminary, everyone stands from the start to the end of the HC Mr Handel BRAVO sir and Thank you for giving us the Messiah a tribute to GOD's gift of your talents to Honor HIM Pax+
Thank you so much for posting this. What a wonderful tribute to a great man who blessed the world with great music. I learned so much from this, and I have a much deeper appreciation now for this masterpiece than I did before. So once more, thank you.
Thank you. This was very interesting, I've always liked what i have heard of Handel's music, Like Bach another marvellous baroque giant,Handel has left the world a far better place with the full use of a profound talent, appealing to people of a diverse range of age.
@@AntPDC What's miraculous is not so much how quickly he wrote it, but how good it is. As Howard Goodall says in this documentary, many composers can churn out work really quickly. For example, nearly 50 years after Messiah, Mozart wrote Don Giovanni in a couple of days.
I don't like the so called carneval piece and I cannot use our lord's title Messiah for this. For me this is relly blasphemy, this is not praise to our Lord Jesus christ. He decides on his own if this will be forgiven or not.

So many thanks for the empathy with Ukrainians. Thank you for posting this documentary.
Warm greetings from Miami. 🏖⛵
I like the way you explain the composition music in laymen's terms. I understand the music so much better as well as music terms.

Thanks Anthony, I first saw this film, I believe when it was first televised and I’m very grateful to see here it again on your Channel.
Very informative and the vocalist did a tremendous job!
2:52 I thought "Comfort ye" was a recitative of the aria "Every Valley"...
VIVA HANDEL !
in those days the composers not only they were highly trained in music, they also only knew latin. Impressive
How many days did it take for Handel to write this?
24. Miraculous isn't it?

I think he may have omitted it was written in Dublin in 24 days, from what I understand
It was in fact composed in London over a period of 24 days, and completed by September 1741. It was first performed in Dublin in March 1742.
What are the names of the soloists?
14:26
What i'm evely thinking... what would story be like if he knew about mdma 😂
