No wonder the people get dumber and dumber….Mozarts own version of the Messaiah was shown on tv, a production with weird looking dancers, it looked as if the producers made fun of the music….so sad to watch……

I can well imagine Handel's Messiah is played in the throne room of Heaven. Not long to go before the Bride of Christ is taken home suddenly and to the safety of Heaven, to forever be with THE King, the Lord Jesus Christ. The judgment of God is at the door! Please, please, do not be left behind. Even at this late stage, Jesus is still saving souls of those who will come to Him in repentance of sin.

"Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world." John 1:29 - These are the words of John the Baptist, when he saw Jesus Christ approaching him. Consider the grace and authority that resided in one man whose sacrifice could erase the guiltiness of all that resided in the world. This could only be done through faith in him and acceptance of his identity and obedience to his call in one's life. As he was selfless in his giving to all mankind, so should we be selfless in our giving to him and to one another.

My favorite single section or piece is the great bass recitative and aria - "Behold, I tell a mystery" and "The trumpet shall sound." I was brought to tears with the bass's performance - by the end, he was no longer singing words and notes, but delivering the prophet's message to us all - it went far beyond notes and words on the page. What a combination! The inimitable AAM under Owen Rees, together with so many talented young choristers and soloists. Exquisite diction by all which never got in the way of the beauty of the words and music. The choir was top notch. Ashley Riches is an imposing, lyrical power house of a bass; Ted Black has a beautiful but commanding tenor voice allayed with stirring emotion; Esther Brazil has an amazingly full mezzo range, rich and melodic throughout while delivered with cut glass clarity; Rowan Pierce elicited feelings of exaltation with such conviction and beauty. They were all such a pleasure to listen to.

Brilliant rendition of this masterpiece - I'm convinced Handel was inspired to select the most appropriate words from the Holy scriptures and then set them to music of timeless power and beauty. Thank you AAM & Queens College for your most moving performance - I particularly liked the smiling female singers who clearly were letting the meaning of the words show on their faces.

Sounds often shut me down to where I pass out. But I am trying. And, no I don't respond to to mosh pit, acid rock, punk rock, almost any music after 1990. Not to be cruel, but perhaps you suffer from epilepsy, or some other neurological problem. At the very least, I would earnestly encourage you to get a solid medical evaluation. The resolution could be as simple as corrective exercises, or you may require more complex treatment and/or therapy. But it is better to be informed, rather than to guess. I suffered through my childhood with ADHD, and wound up a guinea pig for all sorts of medications to include Ritalin, while it was in its early stages of distribution. But with the help of God, and some wise therapists, I was able to overcome most of my disability, and went on to college, military service, and a basically very good family life. This includes a wonderful wife of over 35 years, 3 awesome grown children, & 5 unbelievably cute grandchildren ➕️ #6 on the way. PRAISE GOD! I'll leave you with this thought, and then I'll get off my soap box 🙃🙂.

Handel *expected* soloists to add at least some notes he didn't write, as did most other composers of his time. It was standard to "embellish" or "ornament" (both were and are commonly used words for this) any section or even individual phrase that was repeated. There are even surviving treatises from the 18th century on how to do this.
But yes, I agree, the tenor's vibrato is too big.

Love that humanity can sing "Hallelujah" in the midst of masks, shutdowns and sorrow for many. The audience response is priceless.

Magnificent performance, and extra points for whoever thought it would be a good idea to stand that giant tenor next to the miniature alto on the front row. Really satisfied my sense of proportion :)

My parents would always play the entire Messiah on records each Christmas season. I now have it imprinted as a childhood memory although most other details of childhood have evaporated from conscious memory. Such richness! This alone made me an 18th century artistic enthusiast and historian.

What a great delight at any season. This is the most insightful and thoughtful performance I've heard in a long time. Wonderful shaping and dramatic musical organization throughout, all supported by terrific soloists. Just wonderful.

This has to be one of my favourite Handel's Messiah performances ever. Such nice flourishes from the alto that I've never heard before, as well as the bass. The tenor and soprano sang very nicely, and the orchestra was very attentive to the conductor. The conductor set good tempos and was very insistent upon good expression. Diction was top notch; I could hear the words more clearly than any other Messiah performance in memory. What a beautiful concert hall. Nice to see and hear the baroque, valveless trumpets. 5 stars out of 5. I look forward to seeing and hearing this one again next year. If there is a D.V.D. for this performance, please let me know, and I'll buy it.

Thank you to all the musicians and instrumentalists, the Academy of Ancient Music AAM and Choir of the Queen's College, Oxford and to your conductor and benefactors. What a wonderful concert! The music went at a good pace, and the soloists were expressive and made their singing seem effortless. I have sung the alto and soprano solos and I know how much work goes into preparing them. It takes a true professional to make it such a pleasure to hear! I love this piece so much, as do so many. Merry Christmas to everyone. May there be peace on earth, goodwill to men.
